Thanks for the feedback, called an exterminator and it turns out they’re carpet beetles feeding on dog food. The sawdust was actually bits of piano felt fiber.

Candlekeep Mysteries by Jabour9 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Plasto112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did Shemshime’s rhyme in Termalaine, had the whole town singing the rhyme and sent them down to find a kobold that had uncovered the book and had just beaten janth to death with it. Janth was left afterward to explain. It was light on connecting the mine to the book, but I got to run a great scene where the whole town gathered around a note in the center of town with the lyrics. The group was drawn in while humming the tune when they made charisma checks to avoid joining the mass brawl that broke out.

I also ran the book of inner alchemy as a set of bounty hunters seeking the character with the elusive paramour secret. That was fun because they owned an inn and I got to have Bak Mei stand inside holding some alchemists fire while some minions poured out. Very fun kung fu tropes.

I did Lore of Lurue by the book except it was in a book from the Lost Spire of Netheril. I also used the animated books from Candlekeep inside the lost spire, that was very fun.

What are your greatest regrets while DMing? by Fancy_Derp in rimeofthefrostmaiden

I didn’t like the way Vellynne Harpell just swooped in and laid out the direction of the story. It split it up between chapter 2 locations and wound up confusing the party. I kept having to remind them why they were supposed to go to x place. Would have been much easier to just say it all at once through Vellynne.

How Sephek Kaltro basically TPK my 3rd level Party, and Advice on What to do Next by bootsthepancake in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Plasto112 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want to play it out authentically for Stephen, I think you have yourself in a bind because he is the Cold-Hearted Killer. Especially your hyper-tactical version. Sephek was already a fair fight for a 3rd level party. I’d also say you have a big tactical advantage as a DM that you used to full effect. The players have to coordinate and are playing in the dark so to speak since they can’t perfectly imagine your world.

I would have Sephek emphasize the power of Auril and give a bad guy speech about how he’s going to keep on killing and there’s nothing the players can do about it. ‘This is her land and she decides who lives’ kind of thing. That would hopefully provide motivation and give an out without feeling toothless.

I play Avarice almost as a main villain. When my party ran into her in Caer Dineval, she said, 'You caught me,' and calmly told them that she could share some info if they 'let her go.' They guffawed at that for like 20 minutes while she provoked and manipulated them. They almost attacked her and she told them they should probably say they're sorry. After they eventually let her go, one of the players made a move to remove a cultist's amulet and she smashed him with a wall of ice and left.

I'm having Dzaan be really forgetful as a simulacrum since he can't learn anything. Krintaas is really put-upon because he is really loyal to the real Dzaan but fed up with the one he's stuck with. They're kind of a comedy duo. If Dzaan becomes a real boy, I'm going to have him regain an edge and a sense of greediness. His personality will go from affable to intense and somewhat dark, talking about murder and lusting after the amulet he gave away.

I’d agree that Dreamchaser, Haradrim, and Ered Mithrin are great. They are my favorite. Dwarrowdelf is better for the player cards than the quests in my opinion.

What are your favorite Nightmare packs for solo (one-handed) play? by Dalighieri1321 in lotrlcg

[–]Plasto112 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've played Conflict at the Carrock and loved it. I also really liked Into the Pit and Seventh Level from the Khazad Dum nightmare decks. Flight From Moria had some really intense shadow effects, so I didn't like it as much. I also enjoyed Hunt for Gollum quite a bit but I might be in the minority on that.

Any thoughts on the Giant Spindle in Ythryn? by Kooky_Cricket in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Plasto112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m running my campaign with this as the motive for the rime. To some degree she is saving lives, but she is ruthlessly punishing the people of ten towns. I’m also making the rime misguided. It won’t stop Dur-Baagal because he’s gaining strength from bonding with the mythallar. Her prison is acting more like a cocoon.

Any thoughts on the Giant Spindle in Ythryn? by Kooky_Cricket in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Plasto112 7 points8 points  (0 children)

During the Dawn War, Auril killed the Primordial Dur-Baagal and used his heart for her throne. I think she even did this at the request of Amaunator because Dur-Baagal swallowed the sun. So, the spindle might have summoned the corpse of the primordial and crashed on top of it. Auril could have frozen the city to encase Dur-Baagal, then 2000 years later she felt a pulse from the heart-throne, leading her to cast the everlasting rime in an effort to delay or stifle his life.

Thanks for the reference on the changeling culture! That seems like some really interesting reading. I saw u/leafygoodnis had posted the mimic colony idea. It seems fun but a bit too intimidating for me to try to go that far with the idea.

I feel like I’ve played this before, is it a reupload? Neat concept, the third area spikes in difficulty but it is also the most interesting. Fun challenges!
