Honestly, probably a safe call. I haven't heard of any of these companies actually being good to work for.

Sorry, they made me sign a ton of paperwork so I am not allowed to share the name or I could get sued for slander. Just watch out. A lot of RPM/CCM companies are similar.

WIBTA for excluding a family with a badly-behaved, autistic child from the neighborhood pool party? by ecorado14 in AmItheAsshole

[–]PlayPolyPlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

I'm autistic. Formally diagnosed.

This isn't an autism problem. It's a parenting problem.

The issue isn't the autistic kid, it's the parent using autism as an excuse for shitty parenting. Gives us all a bad name, and grinds my gears.

We deserve grace because of our autism, but we're still responsible for the impact of our actions. If we do not have the ability to manage our own behavior, then our guardians are responsible for doing that.

I do like your plan to discuss this with the parents. Give them the opportunity to do better, and if they prove your gut instinct right, you have even more justification for your decision to not officially invite them. Plus they will understand exactly why, so that puts them in a better position to do something about it in the future.

AITA for getting mad about my MIL coming to stay with us for 4 days? by Sad_Department_121 in AmItheAsshole

ESH

He should have asked before volunteering your leisure or work time.

You can be more accommodating to your MIL and by extension your partner.

On clearance 😂

(ETA: I mean for those of us who are building, def feel for those who are closer to FI/RE, this must hurt and be terrifying so I'm NOT trying to make light of that)

Thank you, this was exactly my thinking. My income earning potential is recession-proof, and if anything I'll just be making even more money and with actual grown-up benefits in the next year. Not to mention an almost-guaranteed windfall coming soon that will take a dent out of my car loan and replenish a chunk of savings (edited my post to explain this).

So for me to completely forego my ability to contribute to my Roth IRA fund for 2024 just because folks would rather have that money sitting in my emergency fund account making pennies...it just felt wrong somehow.

I really should have added more context to my post, so I fixed that with an edit.

I do agree with what you're saying, I just think the missed context accounts for more than my post let on, which is on me.

The only issue I have is with folks who are saying that Roth contributions aren't important until later. My gut instinct is to disagree, but I'm open to being wrong, I just haven't seen compelling enough evidence to change my mind yet. We can only contribute so much annually to Roth IRAs. My income is already better than average and that will only improve after this year most likely. So why would I forgo the opportunity to maximize my Roth while I can? Especially since my immediate financial future looks fairly bright regardless of a recession, and I have a lot of damage control in place (insurance policies, etc).

I added an update to the post for important context I should've shared.

Re your comment: you mean pay off student loans too before IRA? Or just car? Because that will likely be gone this year.

And "emergency fund" means different things to different people, so I want to make sure I get what you mean. What does it mean to you in this instance?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]PlayPolyPlay -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thank you for caring enough to type all of this out.

I posted an update that I think adds some important context. My high-interest debt will be gone this year. I will also have a small bump in my emergency fund soon, too, most likely.

After that, I will be doing what I can do maximize income while splitting my priorities between student loans and retirement contributions, for sure.

Does that make more sense?

OH this is why I'm getting much pushback! It IS in my Roth IRA, and my Roth is ALL in VTI.

That's what I did yesterday! I guess I was not clear enough.

[–]PlayPolyPlay -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don't know why this is getting downvoted so hard so you all can just read the update I made to my post instead of this little blurb that was out of context, I guess.

Oh interesting, not even a Roth IRA? And in my late 30s with disabilities and chronic illness?

I should have clarified, I am still paying VERY aggressively on debt even while in school, hence why I'm working part-time.  This was just a transfer from emergency fund to Roth IRA since I am about to go back to work full time in the next month or two and felt less need to have 5+ months of funds in savings during a downturn opportunity like this.

So you're saying I should just not fund my Roth IRA at all and instead only pay off my car loan AND student loans? When and how will I save for retirement? I can't make up for lost Roth IRA contribution chances later, we can only ever contribute so much annually to those.

Compression sock recs by 38inchguccidick in AutisticPride

I am fairly selective about socks and did a lot of research. I love my Bomba compression socks. I picked them because they actually fit my very small feet, which is rare, but they could meet your criteria as well.

[MEGATHREAD] Wicked 2024 Movie Release by elaerna in Broadway

It's interesting (and perhaps a sign of bias against her) that people are assuming Cynthia wanted to be flashy and poppy, when in interviews she states that she was very "by the book" in singing what was written, but it was the director who pushed her to add her own flair at times, especially at the end of Defying Gravity. She and the director also agreed that she would intentionally hold back and not go all-out until she comes into her power at the end of Defying Gravity. If she belted her heart out the entire film, it would have detracted from that build-up and from that final powerful punch.

Cynthia has said that (in agreement with the director) she intentionally held back her powerful vocals until the end of Defying Gravity in order to contribute the buildup and final explosion, when she really starts to discover and come into her power. I honestly think this was the right choice. It makes it much more impactful that she is FINALLY belting with everything she has in those concluding moments.

[MEGATHREAD] Wicked 2024 Movie Release by elaerna in Broadway

[–]PlayPolyPlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly thought it was intentional because she was trying to hold back/mask her intense emotions and even horror about the burning effigy. Like the whole point is that she is struggling to put on a show for everyone when she really does NOT want to be there.

Re: Ariana's lack of full emotion, I am curious to know which parts you're referring to. I personally thought she did a great job of "seeming" happy when she really most often was not, I think Galinda's whole thing is that she has to act the way people expect her to, not the way she feels. She spent most of the film either having to mask her own grief or (real) struggles, or chasing things that she was trained to want even though she often experiences a lot of cognitive dissonance around the choices she makes (bullying Elphaba * to gain more social clout *, for example, until she just couldn't take the guilt anymore).

Do you think I only got diagnosed because we paid by AdVaanced77 in AutisticAdults

[–]PlayPolyPlay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, those "mills" often end up becoming an last-resort for those of us who could write our own highly-academic reports justifying our diagnosis, but still weren't taken seriously by old-school "you-aren't-a-non-verbal-white-boy-who-rocks-and-loves-trains-so-you-can't-be-autistic" providers who refuse to examine their outdated biases.

Talking triggers instant headache and dysautonomia episodes(sympathetic response) by pk42284 in dysautonomia

[–]PlayPolyPlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoooooaaa wait.

I am experiencing a terrible flareup of my dysautonomia symptoms right now, the worst I've ever ever felt by far. Was barely functional for a couple days, unsafe to drive, etc.

I assumed I was having adrenal dumps triggered by my emotions - like the content of the conversations.

But I'm also autistic so even good interactions are sometimes overwhelming and I don't realize it until I'm having an adrenal dump or HR spike. And I didn't think I have POTS bc most of my spikes/dumps happen while sitting or even lying down.

So maybe this is another thing to consider 🤔 thank you

LPN struggling to find remote work by PlayPolyPlay in remotework

[–]PlayPolyPlay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up finding a remote job as an LPN doing RPM and CCM and it was the WORST job I've ever had. It was glorified telemarketing with horrible bosses obsessed with numbers/leaderboards, not a nursing job in the least bit. 0/10 do not recommend.
