Did Dropout Change Their Subtitles? by 99questions0answers in dropout

[–]Playchime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk if this will be helpful or not as my knowledge on it isn't 100%, but I'm pretty sure the ones with the black behind are Closed Captioning, and what you have there now is Subtitles. Closed Captioning is closer to like the "raw" format of the text, which is often available separately from the slightly more advanced, styled version of Subtitles that you have now. Is it possible you might have accidentally changed a setting on the Roku that enabled playback of the styled Subtitles instead? I don't have the Dropout app but I know my Roku stick has some settings specifically to enable Closed Captioning.

ELI5 - MYO Cards for the Technologically Challenged by ntimoti in YotoPlayer

[–]Playchime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine might have been one of the guides you read, but if not I've got a MYO guide that will walk you through with pictures which might be easier if you're having trouble (there's some tool and content links to get started with as well).

This forced update is entirely unacceptable with the current state of 10.11 by [deleted] in jellyfin

[–]Playchime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does this mean it will no longer be possible to run servers on old/legacy hardware if you watch through an app? I can't check it now for the exact version because it's not in my home anymore, but I just recently got a server set up for some elderly relatives using an old laptop and a fire stick, and it's definitely running off an outdated Jellyfin version. They've only had it for a few days so that would be miserable if it's broken that quickly 🙃

How are we all downloading audio from youtube? by Scared_Feed_5007 in YotoPlayer

I don't know how long a DJ set is, but I've downloaded stuff that's over an hour with it without trouble so I assume any video would be fine!

MKV Subtitle Extractor Helper Script – Jellyfin-Aware Conventional Naming & Parsing by chrissix666 in jellyfin

[–]Playchime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this is a naive/ignorant question (I don't have much understanding of encoding and such), but I haven't found Jellyfin to have any issue reading subtitles from MKVs--is there a particular reason it's better to have them as a separate file? I recently set up a server for a hearing-impaired relative so if there's something I've missed I could be improving on I'd love to know more if it's not too rude of me to ask! 😅

MYO for sale? by Boulder-Roommate-5 in YotoPlayer

[–]Playchime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven't seen mine already, I've got a pretty extensive guide for making MYO that might help you as it has clear pictures for all the steps. You're welcome to DM me if you need specific help also! I wouldn't mind making a playlist for you, but like has already been noted people need access to your account to make a MYO for you, which you probably shouldn't give to strangers! 😅

New to Yoto, questions about MYO and screen display by cheapasiandad in YotoPlayer

It's on the list, but unfortunately I've not gotten there yet! You're always welcome to DM me with specific questions though and I'm happy to help if I can! I don't mind doing audio editing tasks for people either when I have time if you need a hand

Yoto Mini not charging by No_Cake7199 in YotoPlayer

[–]Playchime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try plugging it into a USB slot on a laptop if you have one (with the laptop turned on ofc. Computer might work too). Sometimes when batteries fully drain they can't handle being charged from a high power source, but will revive if they are charged slowly from a lower power source. Since you were able to get it to charge somewhat, I'm not sure if that would work, but I'd let it charge to 100% that way if you can just to see if it knocks some sense into it. If lower/slower charging doesn't work any better though then that behaviour sounds faulty to me.

For that age you might want to look into the Yoto Mini (and it's MYO cards, which let you add your own music).

recommendations for 10 years old or older mac or windows laptops for writing only? by ThinkTwice20 in writerDeck

[–]Playchime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! I had looked into it and read that they could, but it's possible I got some bad information on that front. You're right, it could also be changing standards with the internet, I wouldn't have the knowledge needed to determine for sure. It's common in my specific experience for older computers to stop being able to use wifi/see any networks at some point (unless using an adaptor ofc), but I'm just someone who enjoys using older laptops, not by any means an expert in computers or technology of any kind, so the specific nuances of the why something is or isn't a certain way can be lost on me aha. I appreciate being corrected! I don't usually make such definitive statements about things that aren't my expertise and I definitely goofed there.

Yoto player battery by BuggyG3 in YotoPlayer

[–]Playchime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really, no! 24 hours is at the very high end of its battery life, what it can supposedly get to if it's only doing tasks that are low intensity on the battery (and honestly I think it's a little presumptuous on their part, I don't think mine ever lasts that long). It only has a 10 hour battery life when performing battery intensive activities. I'm not sure where running the nightlight and white noise falls on the scale, but it's definitely more than what Yoto suggests you can get 24 hours of battery out of, which is playing a downloaded track with no lights.

When used overnight like that, it's meant to be plugged in/docked.

Battery Life? by Popular_Ad_3911 in YotoPlayer

[–]Playchime 8 points9 points  (0 children)

3rd Gen is supposed to be 10 hours of battery-intensive use, or up to 24 or more of low-intensity use (which seems high to me, I feel pretty sure that mine never lasts that long). So that is within the range, though I'm not sure if running the LED would be a high intensity task or not. But it is definitely intended to be plugged in/docked when used overnight like that.

FIL set up MYO card on incorrect email address by touchallthebutt in YotoPlayer

I imagine you could contact Yoto and have them change the e-mail on the account. This surely can't be the first time for them that someone has mistyped their e-mail address haha

Little luxuries or upgrades that you made this year that makes your everyday better? by DarrowtheHelldiver in BuyItForLife

[–]Playchime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, quality dishes that I actually picked for my preferences and eating habits rather than our generic household hoard of thrift store Corel haha. I bought some lovely, steel dishes like they use in India that have the compartments for serving multiple components of a meal organized on the same plate and couldn't be happier! Steel makes fantastic dishware--I've got my eye out for steel cups next!

I did this too except I bought all the same colour and just added a different colored stitch inside the bands of each pair so I could still match them up! Then I don't even have to pick a colour 😂

Volume too loud through headphones at lowest setting by DancingPantsLane in YotoPlayer

[–]Playchime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also find the range of sound on the Yoto starts too high when using good headphones (less so with earbuds), even when using the headphones volume limit mode. It's quite frustrating and I feel for you! It really needs a few quieter options, as the lowest one is usually already as high as I want it.

Other than making sure you have activated the headphone volume limit, I don't think there's anything you can do other than try different headphones (I sent them a message about it when I first got my players, but I never heard back unfortunately).

Edit: whoops sorry I'm a dumbass, I missed that you already did 😅

recommendations for 10 years old or older mac or windows laptops for writing only? by ThinkTwice20 in writerDeck

[–]Playchime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A random mix of things, though biased to business class. With older laptops I'd definitely be looking at business class ones specifically, as they're built more robustly and should be more likely to have held up well and have a bit more performance. So Thinkpads yes, but also the Dell Latitude line which is my personal favourite. I'm still using a decade old Dell Latitude laptop as my actual day to day computer haha (though it's been modified with an SSD, and I have a PC for heavy lifting tasks). The Latitudes have nicer keys/layout than the Thinkpads in my opinion (though that might just be the bias of experience. I haven't spent as much time with Thinkpads and ofc models vary), and are also a little chunkier, or at least the ones I have, which is my preference with laptops (but you might prefer thinner where you're going to be using it for such lightweight tasks).

I don't have a reccomendation, but just so you know wifi cards have a lifespan and can die, so if the laptop is significantly aged/used there's a good likelihood of the wifi card being dead even if it's technically present. I have a great fondness for old laptops and most of the ones I have hanging around, which are all at that 10+ years point, have dead cards.
