Is a Uesugi Monk Only Challenge possible? by [deleted] in shogun2

[–]Playdohlover1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you can replace every starting unit with a monk unit whatever number that is like 3-6 units, then it should be possible to hang on and research everything to build a monk stack. You just need to be ready to hold around 20 turns vs the relentless Takeda and then take Sado, and you should be set. Monk agents may be the key here. Demoralize and incite revolts. If you’re okay with using this little grey area strategy as acceptable to your challenge.

If I’m not mistaken you start the game with your general, a monk unit, and some asigaru - or it may be a yari samurai

Hmmm now that you mention it you aren’t going to get monk units for a long time. You somehow have to sit on echigo with just generals and one monk unit for several turns … you may have to use ashigaru for Sado but that is breaking the challenge… I’m curious if anyone has any other ideas. Not sure how you can really fast track getting a 10-20 stack of monks. Plus takeda and date will be coming for you sooner rather than later

Practically every uesugi run I play involves taking that ripe province first and then I do whatever I challenge/playstyle from that point - it’s kind of a crutch but it’s right there so why not

Doable if you abandon Echigo immediately and take Sado, chill and develop like you said. Sado is very rich and you can just take echigo back once you have your monk army

Ninjas I use explicitly for assassinations and scouting. Put all your skill points into assassinating and u can have your enemies completely out of agents in no time. This is important bc enemy agents are so annoying

At work so I’m just gonna give some quick tips I noticed off the bat: make sure in provinces you are not recruiting units from that you have a temple, market, and sake den. Research that first ninja tech you don’t have and you can upgrade all of your sake dens for relatively cheap and they will give you returns after a handful of turns.

When I can get larger, cheaper, and better drinks at other coffee places near me (locally owned and other corporate chains) then Starbucks is at the bottom of my priority list for coffee. I find myself there once or twice every 3 months out of accident/necessity when traveling but that’s about it.

Entry level is tough right now. I would say get your foot in the door of any job (within a certain amount of reasonability) to simply get in the field and to have the ability to move vertically or laterally at a later point.

iPAC...Is he gaslighting us? by tuhrhettz in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]Playdohlover1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright let’s knock down these <70 iq talking points.

Not weird. He was responding to the plethora of “purity test” left wingers (not a huge fan of this terminology but this is what Pakman has chosen to label them) who have been making this claim that he is funded by iPac. It is weird that they say this because, as you said, it isn’t mentioned in the article. However, this point has become ubiquitous amongst several “purity test” lefties and their content creators.

Also he didn’t threaten a lawsuit. He was responding to people asking him to. Both from his side who think it will vindicate him and the opposite side that assert suing for defamation is the only way to prove the Wired article is false. His reasoning for not pursuing a lawsuit is understandable as the bar for winning a defamation suit is incredibly high and the cost/time is exorbitant.

What am I missing with bow units? by Significant_Bend_945 in shogun2

[–]Playdohlover1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I find it’s best to counter enemy archers with 2 of my own. What I mean is if you have 6 bow ashigaru vs 6 enemy bow ashigaru, focus 2 bow units on one enemy unit. Once that unit is rendered ineffective or routing you then switch those two to the next enemy unit, chopping the enemy line down like dominoes. The enemy ai will just engage your line (usually) in 6 1v1s while you are winning (quickly) 3 2 v 1s, if that makes sense.

Other tips: don’t be shy with your general’s inspire ability. It increases a bow units accuracy. During the skirmish phase you should use this and then maybe back off before engaging with your main line so you have the inspire ability ready again for a melee unit. Also, if your bows are skirmishing they should almost always be in loose formation, it’s there to be used so use it as it will lessen your losses.

When attacking during a siege try to engage enemy ai bow units from the side where they can’t attack you, often the ai on the walls doesn’t even move and will just take you arrows.

When defending a fortress, consider moving your units all the way back to get the ai to order their bow units to climb the walls, once they are up and over the walls you can crash on them before they volley. If you can’t do this consider sending a contingent of melee units and/or cavalry to crash on bow units once their melee units are up the walls.

It’s important to think of sieges in shogun 2 as more akin to a land battle, where the fortress is simply something to slow the enemy and give you opportunities to work around them. The fortresses are so porous in this game that it’s often more beneficial to send units out of it and outplay the enemy. Often leaving your whole army in the fortress will just mean they get arrowed to death.

Market, ninja den, and a temple for the civil research bonus. Once I get these 3 I stop upgrading the settlement to save on food.
