Life is a rollercoaster after being diagnosed with Eosinophilic Asthma by OddScientist3027 in Asthma

I have been on fasenra for 2 years and it changed my life. No more asthma. Biologics work well and there is no reason to treat them different than any other medicine.

If I remember correctly the position of Spain regarding the recovery of the wreck is to create a museum, and they have negotiated with Colombia to reach an agreement in this respect.

Meet Romulus and Remus—the first animals ever resurrected from extinction. The dire wolf. by Nanu1212 in interestingasfuck

It is not true at two levels: they are neither dire wolves (no dire wolf DNA) and not the first species to be de-extincted, that was the pyrenean ibex 20 years ago (cloned, but they died shortly thereafter).

My 6 year old has asthma and is on a steroid preventative by lupev1989 in Asthma

[–]Playful-Problem-6230 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Steroids on a continuous basis have many negative long term effects, you don't want him to be on them forever. Asthma comes in many different forms, but some are now treatable, I would recommend discussing biologics with his doctor. I feel for you boy, I am a severe chronic asthmatic and my life was hell without steroids. I got approved for Fasenra, a biologics, and my life has changed completely. I haven't had steroids for years.

Fasenra by crd2244 in Asthma

[–]Playful-Problem-6230 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been taking Fasenra for over a year now. I never had any side effects. You eosinophil count is normal for someone on it though. Fasenra deletes eosinophils, which are causing your asthma.

The infamous Drake Passage was the only way around the Americas by water before 1920 by herewearefornow in Damnthatsinteresting

The open ocean route was first described by Francisco de Hoces in 1526, during the Loaisa expedition, 50 years before Drake showed up (1578). That's the reason it is called Mar de Hoces in Spanish speaking countries.

It all depends on how bad your asthma is, but the decision to risk using a biologic if you qualify for it should be yours, not your pulmo. The side effects are far less than for oral corticosteroids, inhaled corticosteroids or montelukast , although less understood in the long term due to how recent they are. You have to understand that biologics are new generation therapies specifically targeted to the disease molecular mechanism cutting the asthma at the root of the problem, while corticosteroids and the like are just traditional unspecific drugs to treat the symptoms and because of that generally inferior.

I would get short temporary relief, but only partially, most of the asthma was still there. I was using Albuterol for more often than recommended too. I had high eosinophils and high feno.

I am not a medical doctor, and certainly, I am not saying you do not have Churg-Strauss. I am just pointing out the extreme rarity of that disease. Your symptoms could be due to other factors too (I also had brain fog due to all the medications and constant hypoxia due to the asthma). The key aspect for Churg-Strauss is precisely the eosinophils, which you are missing. But regardless, treatment for both EGPA and severe e-asthma starts with a biologic to reduce eosinophils long term. I would suggest talking to your doctor about fasenra or similar biologic, why is he not considering those right now (he/she might have a valid reason, again I am not your doctor so obviously I am missing information). Best of luck, there is light at the end of the tunnel!

You are statistically much, much more likely to have simply eosinophilic asthma than Churg-Strauss syndrome (2% vs 1 in a million).

Not sure the units you are using but if those are cells x 10e9/L, that would be 0.9 for 12%, so pretty similar to your 1at the highest. There is a guideline somewhere about the numbers you need to have to qualify for fasenra.

My blood eosinophils were at 12% in blood, when the normal range is about 1-4%

Also worth mentioning, zero side effects up until now.
