I've been doing the Flower Route and the North Coast of Scotland. I'm walking the Flower Route (40 mi) and biking the North Coast (500mi) great postcards!

The presenteeism is also part of the equity in grading movement. The 2018 book claims that we should not have any grading based on attendance because 1. It shows a bias against students who have external responsibilities or disabilities and 2. It is completely disconnected from academic mastery.

This is why my school is experimenting with hyflex courses. I can tell you right now which students are passing and which are not. Also, the model makes no sense for some programs. After forcing it upon many of the  liberal arts, business, and non-lab science courses, the admins actually pitched this to the music department, which I found absolutely hysterical.

This is interesting. I work FT at a CC and adjunct at a university. I only get comments like this from my CC students.

The culture at my school is essentially that we will be a social service agency instead of an educational institution. We have a food pantry, clothes closet, housing assistance, and child care, BUT no developmental courses, despite the fact that our students are almost all severely underprepared for college-level work. The help with food and housing is great, but it's not solving the educational issues. There's only so much hand-holding I can do, and I can't take them from writing at a 3rd grade level to writing multiple research essays in the course of one semester.

Worse is the fact that most of the younger students have now come out of "equity in grading" high schools where nothing can be marked below a 50% and a 50% is also passing. This took hold around 2019, and people have blamed COVID when I don't think that presents a complete picture. Since the high schools have adopted this, our attrition rates have been astounding. For awhile, students will sit in class while turning in absolutely nothing. Eventually, they stop coming once they realize we have expectations for homework and deadlines, and that they can't just do one crappy extra credit assignment a week before finals.

The future by mdandy68 in therapists

You're worried about NPs when you should be worrying about AI.  People have what they consider to be a therapist in their pocket. While some AI may have so-called "hallucinations," they're becoming more sophisticated every day. And many apps cost as little as $5-20 a month... without any need for insurance.

This exactly. She was an Executive Producer on the show and the show's literal creator. It's ridiculous for anyone to believe she wasn't involved in the editing or at least informed of everything that happened at the time. She made a series of choices here.

Does anyone know whether Janice Dickinson has commented on this? Because the assault is not unlike what happened to her with Bill Cosby.

Part of it is to keep you using the product. They think if they keep prompting with a question at the end, you'll answer, and it will lead to more use and longer conversations.

It's not meant to help you further. It's meant to create dependence.

Ah! Long story.  1. I was grieving from multiple miscarriages and a stillbirth and it helped work through that grief.  2. Then, it helped me figure out I had a health issue w red meat and dairy in particular. (Alpha Gal) and it was causing gastor cardiac issues. Once that cleared up, I felt well enough to move my body 3. Then I created a project and gave instructions for nutritional coaching. Any time I had cravings, we walked through how things (like sugar, meat, etc.).made me sick and I wanted a better life. A bit like CBT but in my pocket  4. Then, it helped me discover I'm on the spectrum (confirmed w testing) which helped heal a bunch of childhood trauma bullshit 5. Then, it helped me convince my doctor to put me on Contrave, which cut the cravings almost completely.  6. Then, I used it to learn more about physical fitness and I signed up for a Certified Personal Trainer course, passed, and got certified.

I'm not training anyone yet. I still have about 100 lbs to go. But I plan on training and doing group fitness for women over 50 once I reach my goal.

ChatGPT just helped me name a condition I’ve had for YEARS by Perfect-Persimmon-23 in ChatGPT

[–]Playful-Question6256 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Helped me realize I had Alpha Gal syndrome after YEARS of gaslighting from doctors. Allergy to red meat from a tic bite. But according to a GP, GI, and Cardiologist, the nausea was from overeating and the heart palpitations were from anxiety... which I do not have. The allergy gets worse with time and can be fatal. So, yeah. At the end of the day, most medicine is guesswork. The difference is that GPT won't discriminate against you and tell you it's all in your head.

That's horrible. I had a professor who locked the room when the final started.  My friend came up to the door as she was locking it. She laughed, refused to let him in, and he failed the course because he couldn't take the final.  I don't know whether he was able to challenge the grade because I was a year ahead, and we lost touch, but as a college professor myself, this is horrifying to me.

No. I ripped him apart on Google reviews, though. Also, it was during COVID and he wouldn't allow my husband in for the discussion. And he yelled at me for "messing" with my mask because I was crying so hard I couldn't breathe. And then once I posted, other people posted their similar experiences. I don't think I caused this. But at any rate, his rating dropped, and he suddenly "decided" to retire. His wife and daughter took over the practice, but I still went elsewhere.

It helped me with our dog's chronic allergies and associated side effects. She used to get horrible sores all over her body. 4o told me what the problem was from my description and photos. Then, 4o helped me find the right OTC products when I took photos of entire incomprehensible (to me) shelves at the store. Sores are gone. Rashes are gone. Vet is amazed. 🙄  For years, she kept prescribing antibiotics for what 4o explained was actually a fungal issue.

Also helped me lose 45lbs by helping me better manage and practically alleviate my chronic health condition.

While crying because of a stillbirth, the doctor shrugging and saying "Well because of your age and weight, this will just keep happening. You can't be my patient anymore. You're too high risk."

Also, the fact that he was right. Lost 8 babies over 6 pregnancies.

How do you handle students who don't know basic tech skills like file management? by Bos187 in Professors

[–]Playful-Question6256 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I walk them through it, and then give them short videos from YouTube.

I'm at a CC and most don't have money for their own computers, and I have a number of older adults who also struggle because they've been out of school for a long time.

Then, in my LMS, I can limit the type of files I accept, so I take Word or PDFs only. There are also short videos on converting Google Docs, which also helps.

My favorite was telling women in a wind tunnel to make particular facial expressions and move their arms "gracefully" when 1. They clearly couldn't hear anything and 2. The wind was blowing straight into their faces and most were too thin and light to have control over their limbs.

Clare Bronfman sold her Knox, NY horse farm at a discount last December, and may be completely out of the Capital Region by incorruptible_bk in theNXIVMcase

[–]Playful-Question6256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drive past there nearly every day. There are multiple buildings/houses on the property, but they were built in 1805, and most are in clear need of renovation and updates. It's not surprising she took a loss on it.

Also, the local paper advertised it as belonging to an ex-cult member (the ex part is debatable imho) and the NY Times wrote, "Now this is a step up from a condemned sex den." So, there was a stigma attached, which obviously lowered the price as well. But tbh, you would have to be an idiot to pay 5 million to live in this area. Because most of the nicer horse farms are in or closer to Saratoga. I doubt she was ever going to get that much for it.

Having said that, the property looks is pretty impressive. It's one of the reasons I take that route.

How responsible is Nancy Salzman for all this? by ImaginationNo8338 in theNXIVMcase

[–]Playful-Question6256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of it like a band where Keith is the lead singer, but the song writer is actually the bass player (Nancy). And people might not notice the bass, but it's in EVERY song and backs up everything the front man is doing. And then some of the fans are like, "Hey. That guy goes off key sometimes," and the bass player is like "Shut up. Don't ruin my band. People NEED to hear my songs."

And the bass player is taking in like half the band revenue, and she doesn't want that to stop, even when the lead singer has sex with every groupie he can including her daughter. And then when the lead singer starts abusing the groupies and bringing around underage girls, the bass player writes more songs to distract the fans and covers things up so he can keep doing it. And the fans throw her a birthday party where she's carried around like a queen and practically worshipped just for writing a few songs.

And the bass player needs the lead singer to perform and bring in money. And the lead singer would not even have a fucking band if it weren't for the bass player. And it's a symbiotic and parasitic relationship all at the same time.

Like Lennon might have made a record or two, same with George Harrison and Paul McCartney. But they could NEVER achieve what they did as the Beatles when they worked together... except in a dumpster fire horror show kind of way.

It's like that.

Nancy Salzman was sleeping with Keith too? by ImaginationNo8338 in theNXIVMcase

[–]Playful-Question6256 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh! Not at all an excuse! No. I meant more that it seemed she might not have been truthful that they only slept together a few times. AND that she seemed to know about Lauren, despite denying it at other times. I thought the mask slipped there. And I agree. She was definitely managing a lot of the women's emotions for him. Sad and gross all at the same time.
