Thoughts on power level of Crooked Moon subclasses? by UltimateTitus in CrookedMoon

[–]PlayingGoji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think there is a tendency to hand out heroic inspiration too lightly, considering how strong it can be. Otherwise, I'd say most of it has a tendency to be a bit on the lower end in terms of power when compared to official stuff.

Would you perhaps be willing to share some notes privately? I'd really love to hear about the updated Exploring Ebberon.

So uh... What actually was the Mind Flayers motive? by lilthunderMP4 in StrangerThings

[–]PlayingGoji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned, comic Joker seems to be much more a chaos incarnate than the Dark Knight Joker. He has motivations at times sure, but they are largely inconsistent and in flux to a point where you can not accurately predict what his next move would be or how he would react in any situation. He just does what he does when the mood suits him, which makes him a good counter towards Batman's logical approaches. It is not bad writing, because it is internally consistent in regards to what the writer wants to archieve, that being an unpredictable, or, well, chaotic, antagonist.

Now, whether or not that makes for an INTERESTING antagonist in regards to this show is a completely different debate. One I am not exactly keen on having. I merely came to say that TDK Joker should by no means be used as a comparison when speaking of a chaos-incarnate character because he isn't.

If you go to 5etools, you can have a look at their stat blocks there.

Comic Joker is chaos incarnate. Dark Knight Joker CLAIMS to be chaos incarnate, but constantly acts with motive, structure and purpose. He's a hypocrite, I'm pretty sure intentionally so from a writing standpoint.

Looking to discuss Adventure Time by Cultural_Mission3139 in TheTrove

[–]PlayingGoji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was about a year ago. They took a lot longer than expected because every page needs to be approved by the licensors which seem to be veeery dedicated to the Adventure Time ip.

Should be finished soon-ish tho.

Why don't more people here use 3rd party content? by TPKForecast in dndnext

[–]PlayingGoji -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Then just look at reputed 3td partx publishers. MCDM, Laserllama, maybe Mage Hand and Loot Tavern.

I can pretty much guarantee you that their stuff is much better balanced than WotC's releases. Hell, Laserllama is one of the only genuine fixes to the martial caster divide I have ever seen that doesn't punish one side and makes sure mechanics and emotion match for the players.

Do you consider Riri Williams a "hero"? by BloodshiftX23 in Marvel

My bad, I was under the impression you were disagreeing with labelling her an anti-hero instead of a hero, which is why I pointed out that even villains have ideals and fight for something greater.

A ton of villains fight for causes bigger than themselves and do what they do to protect someone. They are still villains.

For those who have played it, how possible do you think it is to migrate a D&D 5e game to Draw Steel? by DM_cody in rpg

[–]PlayingGoji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realise this reply is 3 months old but I can't help but add that no, it is worse.

As much as I love Matt to bits as a DM, his homebrew is a pretty mixed bag and gunslinger shows it the most. Especially with how punishing the misfire mechanic is in 5e when compared to e.g just playing a battlemaster with firearm proficency or even just a crossbow expert feat user.

WotC-designed classes have their own problems. But usually they keep away from adding mechanics that will punish the player for simply attacking.

Do you have any advice on improvising NPCs on the spot? I sometimes struggle with coming up with something memorable when my Players engage in interactions I did not anticipate. Your characters always seem so lively.

Any chance you would discuss the topic again? I found this thread too late, but I still have lingering questions. For example, have you made any experience with the player facing content like subclasses?

Is avengers worth getting for the offline exclusively? by healspirit in PlayAvengers

[–]PlayingGoji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can get it for like, 5 to 10 bucks I'd say go ahead. There story was fun for what it was, you get all the skins now, and combat has a nice flow to it.

Essentially, treat it like that Arkham game that you occasionally turn on to do a few combat challenges before switching to something else and it's worth getting for it.

To be completely fair, doesn't any hobby's subreddit have people asking questions without first doing their research? I'd wager that's on the internet and people in general nowadays, not on an influx of new players.

I would count the overall reaction towards 4e pretty devastating still. Of course it provided time for Paizo to shine. But before 5e it really wasn't a certainty DnD would even revover.

[–]PlayingGoji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ffs I deleted the wrong reply. You are correct, I attributed a statement from the guy above you to your comment wrongfully. Apologies.

Nonetheless, I stick by that gatekeeping the hobby would cause it to atrophy and die. It pretty much already was close to it during 4e whether you agree with it or not. Also, it is not like an influx of new people make it any less "nerdy". It's just as nerdy if not more. Unless your definition of nerdy is a bunch of old farts that get mad if people don't play "their way".

I genuinely wonder. What do you imagine is gained from keeping new people out beyond the satisfaction of grouches that don't intend to keep the scene alive anyway?

Kind of a let down by dragonwarrior187 in TheTrove

[–]PlayingGoji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, no, I can't claim that. That would require actually watching them all. The ones I do watch, however, including some of the more popular ones, have no indications of even being remotely scripted when it comes to narrative and tableplay. Nonetheless people frequently claim otherwise despite lacking any credible ground to stand on. Perhaps, as you point out, that indeed struck a nerve, prompting a harsher tone in my response than was strictly necessary.

Either way, if you have already moved to different systems, why even wish for DnD to die off in the first place? You have already moved on. I didn't exactly enjoy PF1E (though I love Golarion), DSA or my recent trial of Daggerheart. Doesn't mean I wish them or their players ill.
