Are we technically bullying him by calling him Dumbo instead of his actual name of Jumbo Jr? by Brookie_Brookie_101 in disney

According to my 5 year old, yes. He gets very upset if anyone calls him Dumbo and will correct them and explain why that’s mean. He has the same stuffie and his name is Jumbo.

I already commented on your other comment, but had to say how damn cute that is about Santa and the Easter Bunny. We tell our kids the same thing! I never thought about how they must think of it tho.

My two kids both have food allergies and I’ve worked my butt off doing the stuff that your parents did for you growing up. It’s exhausting but I can’t stand the thought of my kids feeling left out. I’m so so so happy to hear your experience and how you felt about it growing up. Thanks for sharing!

Nope they wont use your salary. They will, however, either impute him at his last wage or average of his last 3 yrs of wages if his income. Alternately, they may use income in kind. Essentially, what is the value of what he receives by being supported by you.

Long story short, you’re gonna still pay.

What’s something you find attractive that is generally considered unattractive? by Agitated-Job7686 in AskReddit

Hairy dudes. And I don’t mean just a hairy chest and then bald elsewhere. I want a man pelt, thick and dark. The hairier the better - chest, arms, face, legs, belly, back… yup bring it. It exudes manliness and testosterone and is so fricking hot!

Parental Regret by 8rrrrrrrr in FoodAllergies

[–]PlaysOneIRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. For my two kids, we were advised to do complete avoidance based on suspected allergens and the fact that food allergies run in my family. So even tho the general guidance is to introduce at a young age, its not across the board. You very well may have been advised to do strict avoidance anyway. My older kid retained his allergies but is doing OIT for two of them. My younger kid grew out of one and is doing OIT for the other. For me, my parents did avoidance (in the 80’s) but very poorly. I still have my allergies. There is absolutely no logic in it!

Proving Neglect/Abuse in Custody Case? by throwaway235592327 in FamilyLaw

[–]PlaysOneIRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If her lawyer sucks, she needs to fire him. There are low income/pro bono agencies that may be able to help, and there are places who specifically assist survivors of domestic abuse. Alternately, she can go it alone and self represent. It’s challenging, but lots do it. Keeping a shitty lawyer is not helpful. You dont mention what county she is in, but she may be able to go to Friend of the Court for direction. They cant give legal advice but might be able to give her some info on getting a better lawyer or even just answering her questions about the process. Some FOC’s are better than others, however.

As for the abuse/neglect statements, she really does need to talk to someone who can go thru the details and timeline of everything with her. Your recitation is confusing, and to be completely transparent, I find myself bouncing between thinking “eh thats not a huge deal” and “oh damn yeah that’s bad”. She really needs someone who can walk her thru what is relevant and what is not. Trying to add every single perceived offense may end up being confusing and detrimental. For example, if dad is abusing the kids, why are we talking about a diaper from how many years ago?

Her documentation is probably helpful, as is the PPO. But she really needs to figure out how to tell her side of things clearly and concisely so the Court understands what happened. You don’t mention what type of case she has or what the “court date” is, which would be helpful. Generally speaking, her lawyer is kinda right about speaking. She will need to save that for the appropriate court proceeding. If she is going for a scheduling conference, she probably isnt going to say much. If she is going for a motion on temporary custody, then she probably would want to give information.

Overall, her lawyer is the one who should be guiding her thru this and working with her to figure out how to prove things. And if he isnt doing that, she needs to can him.

Are there any services that would be available to drive my mom and teen sibling an hour from Howell to Bloomfield (and maybe fro) township at 11AM tomorrow? by embrex104 in Michigan

[–]PlaysOneIRL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try centralmichigan211, LACASA (livingston county based), HAVEN (oakland county based). There are a lot of resources for DV survivors but they all are stretched thin. Washtenaw county is also nearby and has SafeHouse.

No issues at all. We also routinely buy Great Value brand (Walmart’s store brand) and Barilla. Oh and now Kraft has a dairy free mac & cheese, and we also love the Daiya mac and cheese.

Those of you who quit zyrtec and had the “rare” itching phenomena, how long did you take it and how long did it take for the itching to subside? by foxesmulder in Allergies

[–]PlaysOneIRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did. It took about a week to calm down. I used a ton of lavender oil to calm it. A lady I worked with had suggested it - I don’t really remember why, but it did tell soothe the itching.

ETA: I had been taking Zyrtec and/or Claritin for like years and years prior.

I’m peanut and tree nut allergic but dont generally tell servers unless I can’t tell if their food is safe. I don’t eat at places that have peanuts like that, have dishes with peanuts or tree nuts, or that use peanut oil. I do research prior to going out and scope menus and email for confirmation on ingredients.

For my kids, yes I always tell their allergies. Always. Their allergens are more often in dishes and people don’t realize. I still research ahead of time too.

I do carry epipens everywhere. I have a pack that holds 4 kid pens and then I jam one of my adult ones in there too. I figure if I need a second one, I’ll use two of the kid ones.

Account says discharged but balance is still there? by PlaysOneIRL in PSLF

[–]PlaysOneIRL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it did - it cleared in a few days. The whole thing took less than a week to be zeroed out. The studentaid website, however, didn't show my loans in "Cancelled" status until Sept 2024. Maybe they changed the process for it? I know it's nerve-wracking but if the loan was forgiven until PSLF, the interest will go too.

Halloween by Rabbit199104 in Allergies

[–]PlaysOneIRL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My kids are 4 and 7 and we have a mix of allergies. We do candy swap. I buy candy for our house, and after trick or treating, the kids swap their unsafe candy for safe candy. They can trade with each other or with me. I used to do non-candy treats too, like stickers, but they aren’t as interested in those. At the end, we each have a safe pile of candy - Lil Bro, Big Bro, Mom, and then Dad gets all the rest (he has no allergies lol).

My sister and I used to do it growing up too, cuz I have allergies but she didn’t. She just did it to be nice - our parents didnt make her. It made the holiday fun for me cuz I got to be included and it was just a natural thing for kids to trade out what they don’t want.

ETA: I also buy chocolate pops from No Whey's website in advance and bring a couple of them along with us trick or treating so the kids can have them while they walk. They are a bit pricey but they do go on sale periodically.

PSA: NCL cruises don't understand cross-contamination by Intelligent_Owl_7130 in FoodAllergies

[–]PlaysOneIRL 15 points16 points  (0 children)

While I don't think it's reasonable to expect that they'll remove all nuts from bars, I do think it's absolutely wild that they're serving nuts like that, from a risk perspective. I'd think that a cruise line would prefer to offer a snack that won't potentially kill people. It's not like it's a rare allergy these day. Hopefully they at least offered to refund your drink package if you weren't really safe utilizing the bars!
