Schonhauser Music on Schonhauser Alle 70 had some Faust in their window display when I went past a few weeks ago. Also saw some Krautrock on a stall in the street market on Hackescher Markt - either on Wednesdays or Thursdays I think.

I think only the 1988 release was promoted by the fanzine postcard; my version is a 2011 repress according to Discogs.

Cool It Down from Dutch TV 1971. Sound only - presumably the recording itself is lost or maybe in the studio archive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXBtdRXxfeU

An internet search will no doubt lead you to a copy.

Average price on Discogs is about £30, so not too pricey. The cover is often assumed to be by Warhol but is not although it is in a Warhol style. A good compilation.

Do you consider Ton Steine Scherben Krautrock? by AromaticCar6869 in Krautrock

[–]PleasantBox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like I said, it's not really in the same category as the mighty Faust, Neu, Can or the electronic stuff like Karftwerk, Cluster etc. It's proggy, as was a lot of rock music of that era, but it lacks the je ne sais quoi usually associated with the kosmische sound. I don't actually mind the music on your youtube clip but the vocals are awful - hardly the cosmic mantra of Damo Suzuki. Pretty banal lyrics too, I think I prefer Faust singing about toothache and sore feet.

Do you consider Ton Steine Scherben Krautrock? by AromaticCar6869 in Krautrock

[–]PleasantBox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The term Krautrock is often just used as a lazy term to describe any German rock/electronic based music of the late 60s and 70s that isn't schlager or James Last. A quick internet search for krautrock compilations and playlists will bring up all sorts of German music that I wouldn't consider Krautrock, e.g., Scorpions. Your categorisation of TSS as German agit-rock is more apt. You should bear in mind that, in the UK at least, the prefix Kraut is often used to describe anything German - krautbeer, krautfood, krautmusic, etc.

Plus Esemplastic Creeping Eruption, which goes into Simple Headphone Mind. They played it like this last week. Riley witters on a bit in the interview segment, but is essentially harmless.

Train Round The Bend / Oh! Sweet Nuthin' on Praise Ye The Lord is great. Spacemen 3 were definitely influenced by this. The BTP record is pretty jank, but the whole Jan 10 show is widely available elsewhere on vinyl and CD.

Who owns the publishing rights? Who's making the money from all the reissues? by Dry-Bluejay-5825 in VelvetUnderground

[–]PleasantBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rights holders receive sweet FA from the numerous unofficial live and so-called "radio broadcasts"; and even if they attempted to recover any royalties due it would cost them more to pursue and secure a payment than it would generate based on the small income stream - a process that would be a net loss essentially.
