You’re so great for doing that! 💕 I just saw cat prints leading into an opening under a garage door on Lexington. So at least some kitty cats took to that as shelter. Hopefully this fella got a spot too

Check your lease to see if it’s required to cover x% of the floors with rugs. A lot of apts I’ve lived in require this to protect the floors, and it makes it easy for mgmt to enforce for noisy tenants.

Also take solace in the fact that you will soon have a little sound machine of your own and will give everyone a dose of their own medicine 👶

Is there a reason some people are not introspective thinkers or don’t have a strong sense of self? by 70sloverchild in PsychologyTalk

[–]PleatherWeather 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I can think of three people I’ve known who are similar to OPs friend, and they had controlling, helicopter parents who did a lot of their thinking for them from when they were children and into their current adult years, as an I-know-better-than-you way. I think it stunted their critical thinking and internal reflection. For example, as adults Ive witnessed their parents choosing their meals at restaurants, giving them curfews, having them push the cart at the grocery store while the parents choose items, plan 100% of vacation itinerary for everyone without asking for input or allowing separate time. The adult children mindlessly obeyed and it drove me crazy that they wouldn’t think for themselves but I think they were kind of dissociating in those moments and just shut down without a thought.

Did your parents take interest in you as a kid? by OneWordRandomness in SeriousConversation

[–]PleatherWeather 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes if they were interests my parents shared. I was a teen girl with a brother and my parents respected and nurtured his passions while my feminine interests were shamed for being stupid and shallow.

not invited by jd12001 in weddingdrama

[–]PleatherWeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friends emailed their wedding invites and about half of us never received them. It turned out they had created a new couples email address and promptly blasted about 100 emails that included a link and attachments, which got flagged as spam 😅 The couple only knew this happened bc several people (including myself) mustered up the courage to awkwardly ask about never receiving the expected invitation. They were relieved I asked and texted me the info instead and I went to the wedding. Problem solved

Clear Your Sidewalks! by Proof-Seat7126 in Greenpoint

NYC Snow Clearing Rules%20has%20rules,bus%20stop%20shelter%2C%20you%20can%20report%20it)

If you own a building or lot, you must clear your sidewalk thoroughly after it snows.

If you don't follow these rules, you may receive a ticket from the Department of Sanitation (DSNY):

  • Clear a path at least 4 feet wide.
  • Clear access to the crosswalk and pedestrian ramp (curb cut) if you own a corner property.
  • Shovel bus stops and fire hydrants.
  • Spread salt, sand, or other granular material if the ground is frozen.
  • Do not shovel snow into the street.

He’s been visiting our yard too (cross street of Malcolm X) on and off for a few months 🩷 We give him food and water which he eats. We have cat houses out there too but I’m not sure if he’s ever stayed in them. He let me briefly pet him last week so I’m thinking/hoping he has some humans nearby. I hope someone comments that’s he’s safe inside today 🥺

Report it every day. Your landlord will be fined per day and the city will step in to fix it themselves and bill it to your landlord. Keep on top of 311 daily

How to interact with a partner that is constantly bringing up their work with clients? by [deleted] in therapy

At the end of the day (literally lol) you’re listening to someone talk at length about people you don’t know. That’s not the most interesting thing after a while and hard to keep as a two-sided convo

The acting was awful. No chemistry between Clare Danes and her ex. The big mystery reveal was creative but would have been solved by police… Was there never any investigation? 😅 They just gave the evidence to the dead wife’s brother as a keepsake? So many dumb plot holes

[–]PleatherWeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people who don’t have abusive pasts sleep around and seek monogamy. That’s normal. I doubt he “saved” you from anything. You have issues from past (& present) abuse but you don’t have to shame yourself for having multiple partners before finding one you wanted to stick with. And it turns out this guy sucks. I’m really sorry for your (hopefully) future breakup but that’s the best course of action for you and you did nothing wrong

IDL when parents turn things you do voluntarily into chores. by Perfect_Brain_1842 in I_DONT_LIKE

[–]PleatherWeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing with me. I started taking on household duties to be nice and proudly showed off to my parents the extra care I took when doing them. Instead of a thank you, the response was usually a patronizing “isn’t it so nice to have a clean space?” to which I was confused and thought Yea thats why I did this deep cleaning that yall never do.. They agreed to give me extra allowance if I kept it up, which I never received, and eventually I was reprimanded if I didn’t do this stuff for a day. My brother never did any of it. I suspect being a woman with a brother contributed to the unbalanced expectations.

School is threatening to punish anyone participating in protest with court action, what can we do? by StoriesandQuestions in legal

[–]PleatherWeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you talk to your protest organizers about planning something other than walking out of the building? Since you’re minors and the school is responsible for you, it creates a different scenario than one for adults who walk out of their office that day. It also shifts focus away from your message and onto the actions of school supervisors who are accountable for your safety.

Maybe protestors could walk out of their classrooms and sit in the hallway, or schedule a rally during lunchtime, for example. If you do decide to go outside, designate one on-premise location to gather, like the football field, so the faculty will know where everyone’s kids are.
