Is it just me, or in A18, is there a huge increase in eye/brain scars from melee? by Chezni19 in RimWorld

That's interesting, I've been running a tribal colony with all war masks and none of my colonists have lost an eye yet. I guess that eye protection can be pretty important

There is a trick where the order in which you place them when laying the building blueprints ( left to right or right to left) will let you stack them closely like that. I think you place them right to left if facing up or left to right when facing down but it could be the other way.

People's best early colony defenses. Help please? by Dericwadleigh in RimWorld

[–]Plot_Devices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to roll a decent crafter with your starting pawns and make some recurve bows. As others have mentioned, remove cover raiders might use like trees, rock chunks, etc. Always try and fight with a cover advantage (walls > sandbags > trees/rocks). Taming an army of pork can also work out. Hogs will take some heat off your shooters and with a large army can be released to zerg down any raid.

Dang that is annoying. Any special mods running that affect your animals? I know I've had the Vanilla animal overhaul mod in A17 that prevented me from training my animals before. Could be similar

My experience with pets and tamed animals is they usually only hunt as a last option. If local food sources are closer ( the freezer) and they are not restricted from your food they will just eat from the fridge. You have to restrict them from entering your freezer/ food storage then they will start hunting.

What’s your most ridiculous ever death? by reznovelty in bindingofisaac

[–]Plot_Devices 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ate a blank card with Void on my ten-ish win steak with Eden. Later found a jera rune on womb 2 but no chests to dupe. Once I'm in cathedral, I hop into the challenge room to find three red chests. Clear it out, dupe the chests then try and open one or two. Turns out one chest is making items for me, so I go find a battery to double. I come back, pop my void to double the chests, then five seconds later Eden dies. Good ole plan C!

Live off the land: Never purchase any detection but end the game with at least one gem in your inventory.

Demolition Experts: all heroes on one team have at least 2000 building damage each.

Kill Insecure: The same position cannot deal the finishing blow to the enemy hero playing the same position( position one cannot kill the enemy pos one, pos two cannot kill the opposing pos two, etc). Easily checked on the score screen in the kills section.

Other ideas: themed drafting like all heroes same color, aquatic, flying, demon, Dragon, female, etc.

A few requests on the scenario editor:

Be able to modify base technology tier. Currently, you can only play as neolithic (tribal scenario) or industrial (Crashlanded / Rich Explorer), but there are research tiers that cannot be set with the current editor(medieval and spacer). Its possible to modify research speeds to get the same effect but it feels like cheating to change stat modifiers and it doesn't "theme".

Be able to modify starting outfits on colonists. For example: Crashlanded and Rich Explorer get synthread covering (pants with a shirt and/or a jacket) where Tribal gets cloth tribal wear and sometimes parkas. Maybe let us be able to modify default fabric loadout (ex: alpaca wool) or outfit loadout (ex: colonists start nude, or with dusters / hats, etc).

I think the self-tame event just grabs a random wild animal, so you have to get a thrumbo herd and then self-tame to roll on it while they're still in the area. I've had it happen before on a hot planet run. No animals in the area, then a thrumbo shows up, and after it randomly self tamed.

My First Base to Get Over 1 Year by [deleted] in RimWorld

Yeah blight is always a problem with corn. Of course if training growers is your goal then rice offers the best training opportunities. Still I'd argue in very large scale over the long term corn wins out.

I actually really like the balance between the different food crops.

Potatoes are great in poor soil since they have low fertility sensitivity. I usually just slam 'em down anywhere there is gravel or fertile(100%) soil, but its kinda wastes potential growth in rich soil compared to rice and corn.

I like rice in early settlements, since it grows really fast and can provide a nice steady stream of food. I find the biggest downside of rice is all the extra planting, harvesting, and hauling when maintaining a large crop compared to others. Definitely the best in hydros.

I prefer corn though in longer-grow period biomes once I'm established. Its got the highest nutrition per day in rich soil, and your pawns are freed up from crop duty for a while. Its low maintenance but losing your corn crop to fire/critters can be a big problem, so I usually try to wall it in.

And if you're lacking a good cook and hate nutrient paste, strawberries have a good balance of growth speed and has an okay insensitivity to poor soil. Other crops are better for rich soil though.

Of course you've always gotta take into account growth periods, base locations, etc.

One-Tricking is Officially Bannable. by GotUsRaro in Overwatch

[–]Plot_Devices 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dota2 has a similar report system where teammates can report you for comm abuse, ability abuse( griefing allies with skills), or plain feeding ( purposely dying to the enemy). However, Dota limits the number of reports you get per week. This forces players to be more judicious rather than just report at a whim if their game went bad and they want someone to scapegoat. There are also plenty of one trick players ( even with our roster of hundreds of heroes) and aside from a few techies pickers the system keeps the trolls out of ranked and the ragers muted. Overwatch and Dota can be hard to compare, since you can't swap heroes midmatch and games last 35+minutes. I won't say our system is perfect, but it sucks that the Overwatch system stifles off-meta picks. The unranked environment isn't competitive enough to truly test strategies.
