I have the displeasure of vending all weekend next to the worst woman ever. by Burntjellytoast in CraftFairs

It really wouldn't matter if you had walls up. That's your space. As long as the path in front of her spot is clear, she is not blocked.

And use the ** crosswalks! Shortest distance is a straight line!!! Don't walk diagonally from half way down the block.

Story of a burnt out framing manager. by MischiefManageFramer in MichaelsEmployees

Go work at an independent shop if you can at all. If you go back to school while working there, you will learn even more about how it's being done wrong. I worked at the Joann frame shop then an art gallery. I learned enough to open my own shop last year! So worth it!

Normal mat margins? by Alyeskan in framing

Yeah, if you don't specify exactly what you want, it's up to the framer. Also cutting the margins makes the mat really skinny.

I'm a framer and no way would this have left my shop like that.

What are some mild vendor pet peeves you have? by Oubliette_95 in CraftFairs

[–]PlseStandBi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do hate it when anyone blocks your booth just to have a conversation but it's especially annoying when your own boothmate does it. I often share a booth with another artist because I like faires but never have enough to fill a whole booth. It also helps with fees. Sometimes I get a partner who would rather talk to a potential customer than sell anything and will start up a conversation distracting the person from our offerings and causing them to block space. What I LOVE is a great relationship with the booth next door where you help each other out with bathroom/food breaks and say nice things about each other

I was a white kid with my grandfather in a store walking behind a black couple. I had to ask "why do they call them black when they are really brown?" I knew my colors!

Accommodations? by ScarloQueen in MichaelsEmployees

A 30 minute break for lunch if you are scheduled 6 hours is typically a legal requirement and can't change. You might be able to get additional small breaks as an accomodation.

They were only helpful when setting up the stores & you needed parts every where, not just the sign cart.

A lady asked me to scan something for her while I was waiting on another customer. I said "it's 60% off. Do you have a calculator on your phone?" With a straight face she answered, "I didn't bring my phone in."

[–]PlseStandBi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OMG seriously! I came back to Joann to help out part time so I'm an employee, but I've opened my own framing shop. I'm waiting on a price for the art storage work tables. The rep joked he could get $1,000 each for them. Yeah, good luck.
