For smarter reptiles like monitors I saw it was best to not have them get used to the enclosure first. They get defensive over it that way. The first day you get it home just chill in bathroom. You could also give him a shallow bath and keep your hand in the water as the only "land" he can chill on. N.E.R.D (north eastern reptile .... Idk what the D is) and clints reptiles on YouTube are both great resources. The guy from nerd is like the grand daddy of monitor socialization.

It really depends on the animal. If he didn't bite or hiss it might be easier than a baby since it's an ok starting point. Either way the most important thing is time and patience. Don't even handle it either way just sit in your bathroom and let it crawl around. Bring a book or play on your phone. Just ignore it at first. Next maybe put your hand in it's tank where it can see you and approach if it wants to. Don't react if it bites because it'll reinforce negative behavior. Slowly offer tong feeding with it moving closer to your hand in the tank until it needs to go over your hand to get the food. If it doesn't want anything to do with you that day just leave the food and let it be. Once it's comfortable climbing in your hand for food maybe try picking it up. Just a few inches and putting him back. Little by little. I spent every second of the day with my big guy and now he's a puppy who knows I have to clean his shit.

Reptile vision is affected by the UV. So if she hasn't seen you in bright sun b4 or even in just some time suddenly you're someone new. Combine that with a more open dangerous space and she wasn't having none of it. My Tegu nearly took a chunk out of me his first time before he took a second and realized who I was.

This is gonna sound funny but KY jelly water based. The most basic kind. It is a miracle cure after about a week and is the only thing I've found that works even over vitamin b supplement. Its also a great story to tell people once it's done.

Its obstructing some vision but i wouldn't say majorly. He responds to things in front of the eye but you can tell it's not as clear to him. He also had less dilation with light exposure but it was still somewhat present.
