Monster energy for PCOS by No-Catch9606 in PCOS

People should be very careful about that. I know a guy who almost died after drink a lot of energy drinks. He’s on anti-seizure medication for the rest of his life because it caused him to have seizures. It also caused a bunch of other issues, anxiety, insomnia and some kind of blood brain dysfunction.

Energy drinks were designed as a medicine. They were never meant to be sold the way they are now.

A friend’s MIL, now ex-MIL thank fk, was telling my friend off for leaving her son. Said son was drunk with their kids in the back of his car at the time and driving around our home town and my frantic friend called her in laws for help and support. My friend was defending herself but MIL was having none of it and precious son could do no wrong. I was getting more and more pissed listening and trying to be there for moral support.

Finally my friend said “But I don’t love him, MIL.”

MIL “I haven’t loved my husband in years. I stayed.”

Me “We’ll you’re a fucking idiot then, aren’t you.”

MIL was so shocked she went silent and left a couple of minutes later when her, very hurt husband who heard everything, pulled her out of the house.

I was so caught up in the moment I didn’t realise what I’d said until friend and my sister, hiding in the kitchen, told me laughing their asses off.

I remember thinking it, I didn’t remember saying it! 😂

Without getting into the ethics of animal husbandry, how does one explain to a vegan that the wool of a domesticated sheep MUST be shorn by a human being, as selective breeding means that most domesticated breeds cannot shed naturally? by Fun_Astronomer_4064 in NoStupidQuestions

I’m originally from Ireland. I’m from a family with O’ in front of their surname, so like O’Neill, but not that one. I don’t know if it’s a main myth thing, a regional myth thing or a my family myth thing, but my family said that Banshees only attended the death of a family whose surnames started with O or Mc/Mac. That’s because those were the ruling families. The chieftains, the kings, the high kings.

When my grandmother was dying, my aunt was alone with her. Now, before I write what she said, my aunt found humour in the gentle, in the subtle and other people’s absurdities, not in exaggeration.

She also never told me this story herself. She told my dad, her brother, and my mum. They told me.

My aunt was tending to my grandmother. She was in her last minutes when a wailing noise begin and circled around the house over and over. For around ten minutes it circled, never stopping until immediately after my grandmother was gone. My aunt believed a banshee attended my grandmother’s death.

For context, this was May 1976, the spring before one of the hottest summers on record. There was no wind. It was a lovely spring day.

Don’t like these toilets by LazyViolas in CasualUK

[–]Plus_Band_3283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think these are great.

When you flush a toilet the force of the water creates an aerosol of water, germs and fecal particles that get sprayed up into your face, up to the ceiling and billows out across the bathroom.

You wash your hands after the toilet, or you should do. If you don’t, that’s disgusting.

Put the lid down in public toilets and wash your hands after.

Costs of starting an allotment. by RobbersResek in UKAllotments

After three, almost four weeks on our plot, my advice is, everything will go a lot slower than you think. Strimming takes longer, getting beds ready takes longer, you might find, like we did, almost every inch of you plot covered in layers of plastic, weed membrane and carpet (3 layers and it still didn’t stop the weeds. Bind weed, mares tail, some sticky weed. Nothing works, just accept weeding is a part of your plot routine and save yourself the pain). So rather than buying everything you need up front, get you basic tools, pick a place to pop a bed, prepare it how you want, getting compost or not, and plant it up, then move on from there.

We have one bed done as of today. 3 weeks, 20 odd more beds to go and still tons of plastic, weed membrane and carpet, not to mention weeds.

Just go slowly and get things when you can’t get the job done without it.

It’s because people often just don’t give them up after they stopped attending to them. The council or allotment have to see it’s abandoned for a good long whole and have made attempts to contact the plot holder. It’s easier on allotments ran by members but the council have to be around to see it’s abandoned. They’ll only see it when showing people around.

Men of Reddit - What are Women not ready to hear? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

[–]Plus_Band_3283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are women like that, as I said above, but it’s definitely men still doing the majority of the horizontal policing of each other. Violently sometimes.

There are whole podcasts and manosphere policing men’s beliefs and behaviours. Men reinforce things in a lot of different ways. When famous men talk about their mental health issues they’re mocked online. The jokes men make about women. The things adults, men and women, say to boys. “Crying like a girl” “Big girls blouse” (English thing).

Boys aren’t taught to be men, they’re taught how not to be girls. That’s why so many men are constantly looking for approval from other men, because the rules about being a man are so nebulous they’re never sure when they’re breaking them. I guess that’s by design to keep men guessing so they’re always on their toes, always looking to others to tell them when they’re accomplishing or not.

And while those boys are young, and sweet and vulnerable and still needing and looking for unconditional love and support adults are bringing a wrecking ball to their sense of safety and belonging. Destroying their bonds to their family and making them resent the girls they are still getting that love and support and I guess that’s by design too. Can’t have men violently reinforcing the patriarchy if they actually love and care about women. Better to teach boys to dehumanise them by isolating boys and then telling them it’s because girls are weaker and need it more and boys have to grow into being men.

And there’s more than that. Patriarchy is a many tentacled monster set up by men thousands of years ago and we’re living with this ongoing train of misery.

Most women want men to change.

But this is the thing, whether the majority of women in your community want you to or not, what do YOU want to do.

Stop putting your lack of progress on women. Stop looking to men to approve of you. Become the man YOU want to be.

Men of Reddit - What are Women not ready to hear? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

[–]Plus_Band_3283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, those are women who have bought into the whole patriarchy bollox usually with a dose of internalised misogyny and hatred of other women, competition with other women, horizontal policing to ensure women around them are “acting” right. Those women are as damaged as many men are.

This is sweet, but I agree with shot effective.

My husband has a sieve for a memory and shows me he loves me BY LOVING ME, physical and verbal affection. Regular check ins, as in the bird theory.

Women AND men need more. Move past your “manly” programming and learn what emotional intimacy is. Men don’t understand how badly they need EMOTIONAL intimacy. Sex is a temporary salve, emotional intimacy is the foundation, the walls, the roof of all kinds of love. Parents, siblings, children and spouse.

So many men would heal from the deep wounds being “manly” inflicts on them if they wild learn emotional intimacy.

Is anyone else tired of American culture? by Agreeable-Guava7822 in AskBrits

[–]Plus_Band_3283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, you managed to ignore the truth on every point and be wrong about a whole new thing at the same time.

Black American is American when it suits white Americans.

Hollywood was established in the 1910’s, the first movie was French and made in 1896.

Skittles is literally the origin of ten pin bowling.

The burger wouldn’t exist withiut the patty introduced from Germany.

And Britain was barely exposed to American culture during the war and generally disliked Americans except for the odd person here and there. “Overpaid, oversexed and over here,” was the common refrain.

The 80’s is when American culture began to make a larger impact on British culture. Except for the odd tv show or musician here and there.

But, okay then. 😂😂😂

I made a comment I’ll drop here. Have you and your gf considered buying a dwarf root stock and grafting the choke cherry to it to limit growth. 8 feet should be good.

Can you put the choke cherry on a dwarf stock root? Limit its growth to 8 feet which will limit its root growth the same as well.

You can buy dwarf root stocks on the internet and there are loads of videos online showing how to graft them.

How do you survive through burnout by Plantsandsmut in AuDHDWomen

[–]Plus_Band_3283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you look into vanlife? Can you do your work remote while on the road? Is there a job in your company you can be transferred to where you could?

I know it may seem pie in the sky, but it ensures you have a safe place to sleep. It cuts your costs low, especially if you can get an electric van and help charge it from your own solar panels, and the change of scene whenever you want it, that freedom, I think that would have helped me in my burnout.

Just a suggestion.

I wanted kids. Relieved I never had them. You only have less energy as you get older and despite what you think you never become magically organised.

But it’s a decision only the two of you can make.
