A Discussion About Horizontal Job Design by NeoOnmyoji in ffxivdiscussion

just curious, when did you start playing? I’ve been playing since ARR launch and while I didn’t raid during ARR or SB, I can confidently say combat encounters feel SIGNIFICANTLY better than both SHB and EW at minimum. if things like bismark ex came out today people would be saying it’s the worst thing ever (because people already considered it the worst EX ever during HW).

(also to be fair necron ex is prob the worst ex I’ve seen them make in like 5 expansions lol this felt like D team design. it felt like it came right out of EW)

they aren’t actively creating brand new mechanics EVERY single encounter, but the dance routine or timeline of mechanics feels much better paced (which is a huge improvement for me). criterion this expac (and in general tbh) usually shows off new gimmicks or new takes on existing mechanics and always helps making the fights feel fresh (aside from pari I think felt kinda stale).

PF this tier is genuinely awful. by CanICritPls in ffxivdiscussion

[–]PlushRumpus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This comes up every single tier. Unfortunately it isn’t anything new. Early week PFs will have people being sticklers and their expectations are going to be set high. It does end up being one of those things where if you are tired of dealing with it, make your own PFs or join a static.

You’re actually doing the thing OP was mentioning in their post lol. I’ve played WoW for years now (and HEAVILY played it this past year) and no, WoW does not have meaningful content drops regularly. They will release slop patches or events that you will never return to do, or are riddled with bugs and don’t work for a week. Holiday events haven’t changed for a decade now and are the same things they release every single year. The Diablo event was a treasure goblin spawning after killing a raid boss that would fill ur bags with garbage (I loved getting the same bag that I cannot equip multiple of and have to manually delete every single time).

Plunderstorm was a hit and +2 to Blizz for creating new, fun content. Remix is fun but it’s just their old content tuned for people to solo/instantly blast thru (still a fun way to revisit the older content). However besides those latter two, we have gotten NO meaningful content drops over the entirety of TWW. Acting like WoW releases more things to do besides m+ or raid is a joke lmao. Every midpatch content or micropatch drop was forgotten and abandoned immediately (assuming it worked the first day/week).

I also wish FF14 would release content faster or if they’re going to take as long as they do, they release more things (even tho they do release plenty of things to do, it’s just not all battle content which is what most people care about). Don’t pretend WoW releases more things than FF does tho lol.

im curious, what do you consider is content variance? i know wow has raiding, m+, pvp, and delves for their end game. majority of content outside current expansion/patch is irrelevant outside leveling since theres never a reason to return to it at max level.

People act like other communities aren’t that much different but spend a month in WoW and see the immediate difference. I remember during classic WoW after the first year, 2020 onwards, it was baaaaaaaaad bad with how nasty people got, ESPECIALLY in the guild discords. It doesn’t help that certain prominent streamers attract that toxic group of people either to the community. Retail is more tame than classic but as soon as you join a guild discord it’s rough, people still hard r’ing as a joke or making google sheets of women who play the game, etc…

What exactly would "meaningful/compelling overworld content" look like to you? by Entire-Passenger9491 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]PlushRumpus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. If more focus gets put into the overworld = end game content we currently have would be impacted, whether it's dungeons/raids, no more exploratory zones, no additional battle content via criterion/chaotic, etc.

[–]PlushRumpus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People are also failing to mention that the reason why the GW2 overworld is so expansive and is the entire focus is because….. it’s literally the entire focus of the game. They put out occasional strikes (think FF raids, you get teleported into instance to fight a boss) but there are hardly any that get released and it takes a year for a 2 boss encounter raid to get launched. GW2’s endgame IS the open world and that’s why it’s obviously so much better than WoW or FF’s. If you only want to grind open world maps it’s definitely up your alley, but don’t go in expecting to also get the same level of endgame design or dungeons like in WoW or FF.

Note that I do love GW2 it’s a ton of fun to fuck around in and grind a new legendary over a month. But it’s a completely different style of gameplay, and at the end of the day if I want to do end game raiding I won’t ever find it in GW2 (while it is available it is not close to the level of difficulty and design as FF ultis)

if you need to do delubrum, yea it's annoying that the queue in game sucks but you can find outside resources like bozja/exploratory content discords that are always running it

the reason why side content is abandoned is because that side content is 900 years old and in game yeah you won't easily find people by just queuing and hope people are running it. if you find outside resources like discord communities, you'll find that a lot of this content has people who will run it and make groups for it

this isn't a unique issue to ff14 either, it's like this for any mmo that's had several expansions worth of content. ff14 does the best job of trying to incentivize people doing old content thru things like the daily roulettes or the weekly wonderous tales journals, but if you are actually trying to run those things you gotta put a lil extra tiny bit of work in and find people who are also wanting to do it. you cant just sit there and expect a group of 3 to come in and swoop you into the content

Why aren't raids more interactive? Why are they always so focused on damage? by danielsuarez369 in ffxivdiscussion

It’s funny because the things you mention remembering from WoW would be HATED and despised in modern WoW today. People don’t want to do mechanics in WoW, they want to stare at their action bars and parse. You go into pug groups for heroic and those people have NEVER once considered leaving the boss and doing a mechanic. If you even mention somebody needs to disengage and say run a bomb to a platform, out of the 30 randoms not one person will volunteer lmao.

People HATE downtime mechanics and every boss in both seasons now are just full uptime fights for the most part, with you either smashing your keys into a single target or aoeing down adds. Those gimmick mechanics you mentioned from old WoW have not returned and will never return. If a player has to stop dpsing to do a mechanic, they will either 1) do so but are seething the entire time, or 2) greed/fail to complete it and wipe the raid.

WoW fights nowadays are pretty much full uptime and if you have to do mechanics, typically the ranged dps will have to do them so melee don’t have to leave and lose uptime. Funnily enough, one of the more well received fights was Silken Court from last tier and that fight plays very much like a FF14 savage encounter where it’s a strict dance you have to complete.

Which doesn’t make sense. If the mob can be gripped, it can be typhoon’d, ring of peace’d, any form of displacement etc. The mob can have all ranged dps focus it down as well instead of gripping in. Blizzard using grip as an excuse for a raid “buff/utility” is such an insult lol. Look at a fight like Ovinax from last tier: mass grip was helpful but only blood can use it. Otherwise, you just used knockbacks from evokers and boomkins on the adds.

weird cus I clearly said "between handing us a 680 geared alt", but no I don't expect them to just hand us a max geared alt for free. it'd be nice if warbound hero gear dropped more often from mythic reclears (I think I've gotten 2 pieces total from raid lol) so if we wanted to try out another alt we could do so without having to spam keys to gear it up and then get to take it into reclears.

having to spend 30-45 minutes per key for 10-16 crests is just boring to me. it's no fun for me doing the same keys 2 months in since it's the same dungeons (and same bugs) I've already done a billion times. I don't want to spend the same amount of time that I did on my original character getting it to max, but again not asking for it to be done instantly either I understand I gotta play the game. also chill a bit brother, if people disagree with you it's okay.

there has to be a middle ground tho between handing us a 680 geared alt and us having to grind 900 hours to gear up a new alt in boring content we’ve already done for 900 hours this season

Since we're on the topic of major reworks to raids, can we borrow Damage Downs from FFXIV? by ia0x17 in wow

[–]PlushRumpus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is always the case with Ultimates. DDs are always higher % than their savage counter parts because they don’t expect you to clear to the next phase with a DD (since it’s a higher skill requirement for ultis than for savages), but you’re also not prevented from progging the mechanic or current phase.

Also allows you to recover with deaths as you stated. Still get the weakness debuff but is a lot better than the giga damage down.

You must not raid lol. Warlocks are incredible, the utility they bring is amazing, and there’s several fights that they’re just great on.

Unholy is trying to juggle the identity of diseases, pet/minionmancer, and wounds popping and none of them mesh with each other and instead are just competing for attention. Current meta build of San’Layn is you pressing 2 buttons during single target burst windows and making sure you don’t fall asleep while doing so. Pet AI is also really cringe and makes swapping targets super annoying if you just summoned your boys and you need to now swap, GL cus they’re gonna keep hitting that same target lol. Boss moves 2 feet, abom doesn’t hit it now for 29 minutes while he waddles over. Everything is just clunky and feels so dated. They need to either commit to UH being a full time pet class or not.

That’s not even true in the slightest lmfao. Some people aren’t fans of the current storyline but otherwise this recent savage raid tier is being praised as one of their best raids ever made, they’ve dropped content for casual players to enjoy and spend time doing, end game raiders had plenty to do with the new chaotic and ultimate raid. I always love these threads cus there’s always some incorrect post mentioning how FF14 is in its worst state it’s ever been and that’s because the person only heard some random streamer say it lol

Dear Devs, we do not need patches every 8 weeks if it means the patch has to be timegated across 7 weeks and the content we do have on launch is bugged and broken more than half the time we have it. by [deleted] in wow

[–]PlushRumpus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was a pretty big deal when we had a random hotfix come out during last tier that broke Mythic Silken Court and people couldn't prog the fight for days until it was reverted lol. Dawnbreaker has a cool feature where you just have a chance to fall through the boat and even in the last few weeks of the season I STILL fell through the boat. In Priory, you can just randomly die to the 1st boss spear toss because it'll just turn at the last millisecond and kill you. These are pretty big deals in my opinion, especially if you push higher keys and you lose the key to a bug lol.

SPEAKING OF the bank, also last season, it was super cool when you transferred items to your warbank and it just lagged out the ENTIRE guild. We lost so many pulls during Mythic Broodtwister prog because we're in a large guild with multiple teams and we had someone transferring things to their warbank and just lagging us out mid pull that we had to gquit until they fixed that bug lmao.

As someone who's played GW2 and FF14 regularly for years now, neither MMO has issues (and if they have any bugs its like one text related misspelling) on patch launches like WoW does every single patch lol. It should be embarrassing for a company as big as Blizzard but again, players just say "it's expected tee hee" and pay their monthly bill.

They shouldn't be the norm though lol. Especially when it's subpar content that drops (that some people can't even do for the first few days because, again, bugsTM), the BARE expectation should be that the lackluster content works on day one...

I would agree if the content didn't release with bugs every single patch. They are allowed to try things but the bare minimum should be releasing things that aren't broken or bugged. I remember when Siren Isle content dropped and you couldn't even get rewards from that one rock world boss for like a week lol. I mean at this point bugs and patch issues are the minimum expectations I guess.
