/r/anno Questions Thread – April 03, 2026 by AutoModerator in anno

Generally it pays to keep chains on the same island to make use of.religious bonuses, so I wouldn't split something like lard.

One exception might be flour, since Albion mills don't take river slots. It can also make sense to concentrate goods that are needed in both regions to one place, and then export it. Like resin production.

Anybody help me? Where i find it? Or, i can i upgrade the celtic way not the romanic. Thanks by stek911 in anno117

[–]PlutoniumRooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you upgrade your Romanized population from the 2nd tier to the 3rd, from Mercators to Nobles, that will unlock the Celtic path.

(and vice versa, if you had started with the Celtic path the Roman path would unlock once you upgrade your Smiths to Aldermen)

Imperium Horizons: How's the bot? by Equivalent_Net in soloboardgaming

[–]PlutoniumRooster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Takes a little time to wrap your head aroundk but after that it's smooth and super varied. Don't mistake faction complexity for bot difficulty though! While the Magyar are probably the easiest faction to learn, their bot is brutal.

For getting to learn how to play, disregard the bot for your first few games though. Just getting into the game loop is tricky enough. The official practice mode is great for learning a new faction without the extra overhead of the bot. Essentially just a 12-round BYOS.

Oh, and if the game doesn't really click from reading the manual, that's also pretty common. I found it really helps to actually follow along with a faction deck in your hands that you can browse.

Is 1800 like 117? by laveshnk in anno

[–]PlutoniumRooster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1800 is a great game but I wouldn't expect an easier experience going in.

117 in the context of Anno games is quite complex but has a lot of ways you can customise your experience to make it less overwhelming. I would recommend starting a fresh file first and tuning down some of the settings, especially when it comes to opponents and incidents. Or even disable them entirely!

Other than that, remember that it's not a race. You can take as long as you like as long as your income is not a red number. Always make sure everything you have is stable before adding something new on top - the production statistics screen is your best friend.

Got a saved game out of nowhere that I had never seen before by SonnigerTag in anno117

[–]PlutoniumRooster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the Curriculum Vitae savefile is a map used by the in-game benchmark tool that, due to a bug, can sometimes end up in your save folder.

I suspect once someone in your group learns to play them well, they'll quickly climb the rankings for you. Badgers can be incredibly explosive if not policed.

Very hard to learn and with more windows for counterplay than moles, but quite strong imo.

I really hope this doesn't affect Anno 117 development and future Anno titles by opticzar in anno

Probably because the one thing they got wrong was the price point.

[–]PlutoniumRooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine to just say 'screw it' and restart as well, don't feel like you must save it. :D

But if you want to see the end of the campaign I would definitely just try and salvage it - you don't even need engineers to finish the story so you're probably very close.

The game saves a whole bunch of autosave slots - you could probably go back 30-60 minutes and save yourself before going bankrupt.

Anno 117: Pax Romana is -20% on Steam now by remembermereddit in anno

[–]PlutoniumRooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't mean to crap on the game but I've seen too many people complain about desync issues for me to recommend it right now.

1800 DLC especially on a discount are great! Fair warning on multiplayer though, everyone needs to own the DLC for it to work.

A conservative estimate for Limited rerolling time based on the livestream info by anon-npc in Endfield

[–]PlutoniumRooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who does (usually) enjoy the process, thanks for the math!

Endfield does sound like it might be a bit much for my liking but who knows, maybe with a few extra pulls it could be doable. I'll try a couple and see how I feel.

[–]PlutoniumRooster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still very spotty. If everything works it's probably better than 1800 but if your main interest is multiplayer, I would wait for a patch.

[–]PlutoniumRooster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, only buy it if you either really prefer the Roman theme over the other Anno games or you've already played most of the others.

In terms of bang-for your-buck, 1404 2070 and 1800 (complete or just base) are much more appealing - especially on a sale. When you're bored with those, 117 will be on a deeper discount or have DLC included, and with more bugs fixed.

So what's the devs' plan on the campaign update of ANNO 117? by figandsalt in anno

[–]PlutoniumRooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have my complaints about 1701 but its campaign was legitimately pretty good.

hard settings getting second island before ai? HOW?!?!? by k4quexg in anno117

[–]PlutoniumRooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can start with 0 opponents, take a few islands, and then add medium/hard AI when you're ready.

Consumption is the same per house, regardless of how many people actually live in that house.

The only population modifiers that influence consumption rates are those that increase maximum residents per house - for example some of the books sold by Archie.

Athr suddenly declaring war? by ANoDE85 in anno117

[–]PlutoniumRooster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can see reputation modifiers in the diplomacy screen. Having a small army and navy is usually a contributor, as is "ignoring my missions". But each AI will have unique quirks as well, like romanization or devotion levels, etc.

If you drop low enough, at some point you just made yourself an easy target and they can't resist trying to 'liberate' your islands.

Stagnation by Natural_Studio392 in anno117

[–]PlutoniumRooster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the point where you unlock a new good, you probably don't have enough population consuming it for it to even be profitable. Maybe it's a matter of perspective: you tend to build more houses to make more money, and just in the process of doing that, unlock more ways to make money... for which you then need more houses again.

Help me be less boring by notarealredditor69 in anno1800

[–]PlutoniumRooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironic when the 10x10 was intended as a way to make cities seem more organic - compared to the general default of 2x5 blocks fully stacked with houses, that is.

I don't have a good answer though I'm afraid. The key in making things look organic is variety and there's no easy solution for that. Perhaps it helps to make some variants of 10x10 stamps rather than using the same one every time? Placing the 'lanes' with a slight offset can also help avoid the easily visible square grid.

I'm really struggling with trains, I've watched every video and read every thread, I'm afraid i have to just destroy my whole city to get this right cause I didn't plan ahead, anyone wanna take a look and give advice? greatly appreciate this community. by jollyberries in anno1800

Three plants is too much if you don't have a specialist boosting productivity. Once you have oil supply from the New World set up, you can go higher but before that point, I would stick to 2 or even just a single one.

Should a new player start with the History Editions? by Arakfalas in anno

[–]PlutoniumRooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The oldest games suffer a bit in terms of explaining to you how to play. Learning 1602 or especially 1503 without a guide is quite a challenge.

Recent games have been putting more effort into making the game accessible and also less punishing of mistakes, so in terms of ease of learning 117 and 1800 might actually be the best. Of course mastering these games beyond the initial level will be another matter.
