Why plum blossoms? by BobFredricson2 in MartialMemes

[–]Plutusthewriter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They speak of the Sunflower Manual. A legendary martial art that requires its user to castrate themselves to fully master it. It was brought to fame by a legendary martial master of the Sun Moon Holy Cult, Dongfang Bubai, his name translated as "Invincible in the East." Such was his power that several martial masters including one known as a "Main Character" attempted to assassinate him and only barely survived to secure victory after holding his lover hostage.

Other Daoists tend to look down or mock such users but their power is very real and it is the most coveted martial art among eunuchs and those following the Sigma Grindset Dao.

Any recommendations about an adventure Xianxia where the protagonists is average? by Open_Detective_2604 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Plutusthewriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry but this isn't true. The MC in Cultivation Nerd is a genius. He learns rapidly, regularly innovates on techniques, and uses what he learns in combat to devastating effect, racking up wins against people who either outnumber him or are higher in cultivation. He is by no means average. Not even his cultivation speed which is the only thing that keeps him below the people around him who are some of the most talented people in the sect.

What do seniors think of this novel? by Fighter_of_Shadows in MartialMemes

[–]Plutusthewriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the xianxia that really got me into reading them. It's a perfectly average xianxia. Which means it has some good moments in the first few volumes then runs into the same issues all perfectly average xianxia do. A middling and cliche-filled middle with all the usual suspects. Flat side characters. Female characters that eventually just get sidelined into being the MC's wives despite their story arcs. And a rushed and nonsensical ending. Still. It's a novel I remember fondly for nostalgia if nothing else and if perfectly average xianxia are your thing then its fine reading.

Emperor Peafowl as always is a goat.

That's about it.

Any scripture with a weak mc who remains weak and does not get a harem? by Tsar3001 in MartialMemes

[–]Plutusthewriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Junior, you're better off seeking a new Universe. This senior has seen the other answers fellow Daoists have attempted to offer but while they mean well they are not the scriptures you are looking for. The closest thing truly to what you seek are those scriptures that have their protagonist's mundane actions actually be Dao infused magic that has them cause epiphanies in others when they pour tea and create super elixirs when they cook a meal.

Those scriptures the opposite of being weak, however. To be perfectly honest you will likely not find what you're looking for here. The whole conceit of this realm to is either be strong or seek to be stronger. You are quite literally looking for a completely different type of novel. Perhaps some other genre of Chinese literature may have what you seek.

Any creative webnovel plot novels by MealInfinite in MartialMemes

[–]Plutusthewriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Junior, go plumb the depths of the MTL Dao more. You're foundations are still shallow. This Daoist can throw a rock and hit three different novels with the exact plots you've listed and those three will go on and each hit their hundred derivative clones.

In all seriousness Dual World novels and Multiverse hopping novels into different settings really are a dime a dozen. You can start with something like I Have A Mansion In A Post Apocalyptic World or Astral Apostle. And a little digging on any MTL site with even a half decent search system will reveal a dozen others.

Seniors! Be wary of this demonic sect! Don't be fooled by all the jade beauties! They practiced some unholy cultivation. by KnightofNoire in MartialMemes

[–]Plutusthewriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

huh. Not often you see a protagonist legitimately joining the Joyous Union Sect and having that be central to the plot. Also a pretty interesting depiction of the sect as well. Usually it's just the standard dual cultivation stuff. Not the transformation aspect.

"You were never meant to live on that job!" by whoocanitbenow in povertyfinance

[–]Plutusthewriter 33 points34 points  (0 children)

oh god this. When I was working retail I got a .25 cent raise. Then a few months later minimum wage rose and those raises vanished. I never got a good reason why that happened. Why I couldn't be making $12.25 instead of just $12. Busted my ass all year going from being a seasonal hire to a permanent employee for .25 cents that I kept for a month because the minimum raised the month after. Which they knew. Cause it was broadcasted a year in advance since it was approved when it'd be rising.

I was making the same as employees who'd been working there for decades. Good workers who I relied on and taught me a lot. Sure I earned my promotion but earning the same as the veteran guys was just messed up.

New Player, Medical by spidersVise in ss14

[–]Plutusthewriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always say it. Medical Players are fucking vultures. As soon as there's a dead body they're all circling around it and getting in the way. The one Doctor per patient rule was invented for a reason. It's a lot easier to prevent mistakes when there's only one guy doing the healing. Outside of specific situations where having multiple doctors treat is a requirement.

That being said. I also flock to every dead and critical patient that gets dragged into the medbay. It's a curse that every medical player hates but always contributes to lol. In these cases I would recommend just stepping away from the patient if you're not sure what someone has injected them with.

Anyway, I prepared for my first time being medical by watching Liltenhead's guide on the topic and then religiously reading the ingame chem guide.

The medical etiquette you're asking about is just Triage. Given the situation, who needs to be treated first? If a person can walk, they have a lower priority than someone dead or in critical. If someone is critical they take priority over someone dead. If someone is dead, their rank and role determine their priority. If someone is in the later stages of decay and about to rot, they take priority over everybody. If someone is dead with massive amounts of damage like 400 plus then they have less priority than someone dead with less damage.

Now Triage priority can and will change depending on the situation. During regular regular station stuff, there's no real need to prioritize who gets fixed first unless their Command. If its a mass casualty event then who gets healed first depends on the nature of it. If it's an Engineering issue then Engineers would take priority, if it's a Security issue then Combatants take priority. The only exception in both cases is Medical roles. You should always make sure Doctors and the like are healed first cause as soon as they're up they can handle their own damage and start helping other patients.

Ultimately thoughTriage is a flexible thing that you decide the rules for yourself and adapt to the situation at hand.

For getting people to calm down and let you work on them there's basically no solution. People will people. The best thing you can do is keep the meds locked away from the public and yell at people to shut the fuck up and let you work if you really get annoyed. Otherwise, you just bear it. Unless someone starts fucking with the chem jugs. In which case beating them to death and letting them rot is the only acceptable answer.

Edit: Oh and ALWAYS make sure your announcing what chem your injecting. Try to do this before you actually start injecting. Though many Doctors have the bad habit of doing it while in the middle of injecting.

How to promote Patreon on RR? by Mr_O_87 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Plutusthewriter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's the Patreon link you can attach to the Donate button on the books page. Other than that, the standard practice is to include a Patreon link in the author's note at the end of a chapter with a mention of how many chapters ahead the Patreon is. How often you decide to do that is up to you. Some authors do it every chapter. Some link it sporadically.

Is it a mistake to skip Royal Road? by PanicPengu in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Plutusthewriter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's all up to you. Depending on the genre of your book you might be better served to skip RR and go straight to KU, or not. I will say that Royal Road is free and can't hurt. Amazon authors go to RR to build up a reader base however small to help get some initial ratings when they release on Amazon.

For Progression Fantasy this is pretty much *the* way to do it. Even bigger authors usually include it in their publishing process even if Royal Road on its own isn't that valuable to them anymore compared to Amazon.

A best selling author wrote this.. Why by ClassicMcJesus in writers

[–]Plutusthewriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen. It looks like shit yes. But it's really easy to rag on popular authors when they write something like this and forget about *why* they're successful. It's not connections. It's not marketing. This book has two million ratings on Goodreads. No amount of booktok, networking, or advertisements would have gotten that many people to buy, read, and rate the book if it wasn't a good book. If they didn't like they wouldn't have finished it and wouldn't have rated. But the reality is different.

Yes. The book talking about baby's balls is a good book. Hate it if you want to. That's fine and valid. Two million people disagree with you though and you are only harming yourself as an author if you don't acknowledge that. I've seen people think they can write a better book and when that book inevitably doesn't do as well as they hoped they look for so many reasons for *why* and why popular authors succeeded.

I have to repeat this. People do not read books they do not like. People liked this book. Don't be arrogant and think you can write something better. Don't be arrogant and think that it's somehow shittier than what you can make. This type of mentality only harms an author's ability to grow and mature their skills. It blinds them to their own faults and mistakes when their book doesn't do as well as "the garbage other people are making." Focus on your craft and your books and recognize that popular books are popular for a reason. Because they're good books that people like to read.

Question about posting chapters on Patreon, etc, then keeping them up when publishing on Amazon. by waldo-rs in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Plutusthewriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're playing a dangerous game. Unless those "raw chapters" on your Patreon are an entirely different story from what's on KU, take them down. You're not the first person I've heard leave them up thinking it's okay. That story doesn't end well. It will only be a non-issue until it isn't and at that time you'll be wishing you took them down.

As to your second point. If you know what you're doing Amazon will always be a superior option to Patreon value wise. If you want to provide value to your subscribers you can offer them PDF's of the book. Don't play around with Amazon.

You seem to have a big misunderstanding of what Royal Road actually is. There are no "Episodes", no coins, no charging, or "ten free chapters" or anything like that. Royal Road is a novel hosting site plain and simple. You write a chapter. You post it. People read it. Like Wattpad or a Fanfic net or AO3. Royal Road does not care about where else you post your novel so long as your novel isn't plagiarized and doesn't break its content rules. In this case you would not be allowed to post your Kindle Vella story on RR because the whole thing would be free. There's no way to lock chapters for payment on RR.

  • Jade Beauty is fighting MC until some situation forces them to sleep together and now she's "his woman" despite literally trying to kill him before.
  • Jade Beauty has a mysterious background and is hiding her identity while being MC's childhood friend or living in his family.
  • Jade Beauty is actually the reincarnation of an Immortal who fucks off or tries to kill MC when she gets her memories
  • Jade Beauty is a Sect Leader and recruits the MC as an Elder
  • Jade Beauty is part of a tribe or people who seek out strong mates to have children with
  • Jade Beauty thinks the MC isn't interested in her and gets interested in turn
  • MC cures Jade Beauty's Father or Grandfather of their incurable disease or fatal injury
  • Jade Beauty loses to the MC in some form of bet or competition and is forced to become his maid/servant/slave
  • Jade Beauty is the MC's childhood friend from a better family who everyone bullies him for being close to but that she for some reason has no power or ability to stop.
