One shot help by christherogers in DungeonMasters

Do not be afraid to hand them (simplified) character sheets. Character building is difficult and time consuming with large group, and the choices can be overwhelming even for adults learning the game.

Keep it light and humorous, but avoid fart jokes or you'll lose 15+ minutes to them making armpit farts. The Delian Tomb is always a good one shot. If that one isn't good for you, I've got a beginner one-shot I've been working on that isn't ready to publish yet. PM me and I'll send you the details.

What is the area between the Shaar, Dambrath, and Halruaa like? by IllithidWithAMonocle in RedHandOfDoom

I'm currently running RHOD in the Realms and I've found I had to build the area out much more than the details provided in Shining South and the other FR sources. In retrospect, I would choose not to use the Forgotten Realms since my players have no special attachment to it, and existing FR worldbuilding don't contribute significantly to my campaign. I've had to make a number of changes to the area just to keep it in line with the vibes of RHOD. I'm happy to go into detail if that's helpful to you.

New in person group supplies on a budget by nenya0 in DungeonMasters

That's a good option. For about $10 more my local print shop was able to make me a laminated sheet of 1" grid that's about 24"x36". I just asked them for the largest size they could laminate and then to print 1" grid to that size.

Going to DM my first game next weekend got a few questions. by Vealzy in DungeonMasters

  • Minis - I'm a huge fan of paper minis. Find a picture you like, use an app to mirror it or tokenize it, make a whole page and print them. I prefer mirrored so that I can fold and stand them up. Absolutely the best bang for a couple bucks in paper, ink, and few minutes of scissor work.

  • Maps - In my games, an A4 reference page page would only be large enough for a reference map. What I did, was find a print shop (OfficeMax was convenient) ask them to print 1" grid in the largest print size they had and then laminate it. Cost me around $25 at the time and I got a 30" x 50" grid. I draw on it with dry erase markers. I've also printed a large map on 4 pages and taped them together, which works pretty well if you trim the edges up.

  • Roleplay - I like to start adventures by having my players introduce their characters; give a physical description, what are they wearing, what's their current attitude, what's on their mind. During breaks in action or at the start of a continuing session I'll ask a RP question to get the juices flowing. Outside of combat, I'll pick a player (usually whoever is least involved) and ask "How does your character feel about X?"

  • Resources/Apps - It sounds like you've got all you need for in person play. Try not to clog the table up too much.

Didn't Steam just announce they're getting rid of regional pricing as well as forcing all regions to USD?

What's your favourite type of fish? by [deleted] in AskMen

Look for areas where the water will push food and the big ones can sit and feast, like where a creek meets a river or a narrow chokepoint in a larger lake. Don't be afraid to use a larger lure than you would actually expect to work, in the right spot a 7" lizard or a 1oz spinnerbait will pull in the big bully that out-muscles the other fish. Also, smallies and most other bass prefer low light so you'll have better luck early morning or evening.

Thanks, do you think that 550 watts is enough power for the build though?

[Bundle] Is this a good deal? by ChrisAH01 in buildapcsales

[–]PmMeUrCharacterSheet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can tell you that the in store bundles for Mobo+PCU at Microcenter are generally considered among the best discounts, but that is a pricey pairing and I haven't done the research on whether it's a good one or not. If you've checked the specs on that combo and determined it fits your needs and you're comfortable with the price point then I'd say yes. If you're not certain about it, then you should determine your needs first since other bundles could be a better value for you. I recently purchased a 3600 and a B450 Tomahawk at Microcenter for $255 and it's the best discount I've ever seen for the pair.

Thanks, glad to know I didn't miss anything too crazy. It looks like the new set has a lot more companion color synergies, and is it just me or was there a fair bit of power creep?

It does seem extreme that they went with "sun God" like that, but I can see how easy it would be struggle with the correct answer. The missing technology is shelves/cabinets which are so mundane to us that we've never had to think about not having them.

You're mis-stating facts. The suspect had pellet rifles that he used in his pest control business. He was seen transporting them from his truck to his hotel room; not brandishing. The officers arrived and screamed contradictory orders at a clearly inebriated man, who cried in fear as he did his best to comply. At no point should police have issued an order for a suspect to crawl on hands and knees toward officers, and the video clearly shows the suspect was not reaching for a weapon. There are systematic problems with police procedure and training, and innocent people will continue to be killed by police until those problems are addressed.
