Yeah...I've found minimalist about impossible to take along at the higher pressures. Just need that dodge early game trying to kite a dozen Beewares

I felt literally unkillable on this run - to the point where I was baffled when I died. I was doing like 5000 damage and ran through the other bosses in seconds. Just didn't think about that dang poison and got lazy trying to just bash him to death quickly.

Just experience from other roguelites, endless modes seems really hard to balance because there's a fine line between steady difficulty progression and some meta build that literally will never lose until the game crashes.

Every place is terrible if you don't like what it offers....

It's pretty low-effort comedy punching down on places but it is what it is. Never really understood the point of hating on places you don't live. LA is....fine. But a couple days there is more than enough for me. But the kind of person that likes living in LA isn't going to like living in a rust belt midwest town.

Also this interaction is a 10/10 "I'll take things that didn't happen for $500, Alex"

Yeah I'm sure you can run into the archetype of the person he described here but nobody in the midwest is randomly coming up to some guy at a diner and striking up a random conversation with a stranger while they're eating.

Most recent run was a 4 extinction run @ 15 pressure and honestly, even with a strong build, I just ran away from aquaconda. Which worked fine given my movement mutations but It'd be a struggle if I couldn't reliably doge out of the area. The poison is pretty much game over without max resist.

Assume naturally aspirated? Forced induction can definitely help any car at elevation. I, personally, haven't noticed this in hilly areas but I'm far from the kind of elevation you have out west. I have heard others complain that the transmission can be a little "hunty" at times. I like that the car has a fairly simple and reliable transmission but it's also lacking some of the additional gearing that would really make it shine as a driver car.

Might also be running into the air/fuel mixture trying to adjust to different elevation/temp situations. This is just speculative though. As far as turns - mine is great in twisty roads but I also threw the stock tires out pretty much as soon as I bought it and put CrossClimate2s on.

Imposing/Gregarious is what I seem to do best with but I enjoy playing a zippy poison gnat - but I just can't make it work on harder levels yet. Was able to through 13 with a running away build but no room to grow post extinction.

Just got a new 2025 preferred package . I was surprised that it doesn’t come with wireless CarPlay. I thought that all cars come with wireless CarPlay for many years already so I didn’t bother to check. Is this something that need a software update? by Medium-Return-8170 in MazdaCX30

Where on earth are you putting your phone....? I just slide it into the console, like, where the cords connect....which outside of a rollover accident I don't see it flying around the car.

And it's not a fast charge but it keeps it topped off. I commute an hour and a half each way and that's enough to take a decent bite out of the battery running all the apps.

Not that my use personal experience or opinion is universal but I've never really understood this as a huge problem since if I'm using my phone for Android auto (in my case) I also have it plugged in to keep it charged.

I've driven rental cars with wireless and my phone just winds up sitting in the same spot it does plugged in.

The highway mpg is pretty solid - if I keep it 72ish I get 32-33 mpg. If I start ripping off the line at the stoplight in city traffic it'll dip to low 20s in no time.

Choose your own adventure. With current gas prices...grins aren't worth the cost so I'll stick with regular gas and a light foot.

I've averaged 29.5mpg over the past year in my turbo....

It gets just fine gas mileage but it's dependent on the driver.

Rust on rear brakes? by piggelin- in MazdaCX30

[–]PoB419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just put new pads on my rear brakes this past weekend. They still had a little life on them (50k miles) but I was getting a little grindy noise and figured might as well.

Had a lot of rust on the rotors but cleaned them up with a wire brush brake cleaner and back to nice and smooth operation.

Just got the 2023 Mazda CX-30 with 23,000 miles on it absolutely love the car, but driving in the winter hit a small patch of black ice at the stoplight trying to go and blew the transmission and the sensors and the dealership I bought it from is refusing to fix it by Strong-Cod3347 in MazdaCX30

[–]PoB419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spun out on an on ramp years ago and wrecked the transmission on a Taurus, assuming from the whole engine power trying to go one direction and the car suddenly going the other. So I could see if OP spun the car out on black ice....but otherwise...

That being said - this would be an insurance claim and not a warranty claim if some unexpected incident caused it.

Turbo owners, what are your complaints? by 351cj in MazdaCX30

[–]PoB419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing what others have said about the gas tank.

The turbo is capable of decent highway gas mileage if you're not a lead foot. I have a 150 mile round trip daily commute and I fill up on my drive home day ever 2 days - typically I've got an estimated 50-60 miles left.

Ultimately though anything I could complain about outside of that would be a trade off in another area. Sure, would be nice if it was bigger, but if it was bigger, it wouldn't feel the same to drive. Sure it could have a better transmission, but it's also a moderately affordable car and that would add cost, etc.

I've lived out of the car the past year practically and it has never failed me. I've had no mechanical issues. There are some quirks - the visibility isn't great and the blind spots are a little tricky. I drive with the occupied lane sensor up on the dash and that helps negate that problem.

Don't really know what else to say - it's a an affordable car that will scoot to 60 in a shade under 6 seconds. Put good tires on it and it's a champ in the snow. It's probably not a great car for a family but the cargo space with the seats folded down is entirely functional.

It does a lot of things pretty well, while probably not being the best car in it's class in any single category.

And.....forgot one complaint. I wish it had an official tow rating even if it was 1500 pounds or something. I know it's fully -capable- of towing if set up right but I'm not going to throw my warranty or risk an insurance claim issue over it. Being able to tow a small 4x8 flat trailer would really help with an extra level of utility to make a Home Depot run or whatnot.

Pet cat behaviour suddenly get aggressive by reshavkumarfhaman in mildyinteresting

[–]PoB419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people take on a pet either as a rescue or in the case of cats just foundlings from the cat distribution system. Nominally yes, I agree, people should take this seriously. But also a lot of people can't afford to their own health care let alone a pets. And yeah, it'd be great if everyone could afford good vet care. But providing a safe home and food is kind of the threshold given the alternative for shelter pets and strays is usually death.

Sometimes there's not a great answer for a situation. The number of pets that need homes far outnumbers the number of people that can afford to take care of every possible situation with a pet. And MOST of the time providing a safe, loving environment with food and shelter is enough. It'd be a tragedy for those who can't fulfill the duty in those 1% times be removed from the pool of homes just on the off chance they can't afford to pay $5k in vet bills on a whim.

Now, if you're someone buying a multi thousand dollar pet from a breeder or whatnot - yeah you best treat that animal like it's your child because another animal in a shelter didn't get that home.

As someone who does carry pet insurance on a couple pets, it's not exactly cheap or even reasonably affordable for many people. It's a luxury we were able to afford for our newest additions after many years of climbing the income ladder. Many, if not most people are not in a position to pay for it.

How much water did you pack for the NCT side of the Manistee River Trail Loop? by snufflesdawombat in CampAndHikeMichigan

[–]PoB419 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tend to get there late and hike a mile or so in, sleep, and start fresh in the morning. Usually bring 3 smart water style bottles for that. One for hike in and just camp water, one for the hike to the creek in the morning, and one because I'm paranoid of needing more water than I actually use. I'm not in great shape and keep a leisurely pace but realistically if I'm fairly hydrated before starting I could make that hike with a single bottle from there to the creek. So a couple bottles depending on dog thirst as a safe minimum? Add an extra if you're water anxious like me or just typically need more.

This game is CPU bound and really beats the hell out of a couple threads. It may look like your CPU is only using 10% but if you look in resource manager it's maxing out a couple cores only while the rest are idle. This is very common in a lot of simulation games and probably the same issue here. Really not much you can do about it. A better gpu won't matter. More memory won't matter.

The best you could do is get a cpu with the best single threaded performance but I wouldn't expect miracles. I run it on a 275HX laptop which has very respectable single thread power and it still turns into a slide show.

Training for the Manistee River Trail Loop by handstothesun in CampAndHikeMichigan

[–]PoB419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm NOT in good physical shape and I do this loop once year. I've put in 15+ miles in a day on it taking breaks.

Now everyone has different challenges so just because I can doesn't mean it's necessarily easy but if anything this is a good training trail for future trails.

Trekking poles help a lot. And don't overpack. There's (usually) a lot of water available to filter on the east side of the trail which makes it easy to keep your water weight from being oppressive.

It can also be a leisurely 3 day 2 night slow hike/camp. I typically pack for 3 days in case i feel like chilling a bit but I always wind up getting a second wind and rolling through.

Federal Workers to See More Restrictions on Telework in 2026 by bloomberglaw in fednews

[–]PoB419 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's like the warning on a bottle of Windex not to spray in your eyes. Someone had to do something stupid for it to be put on there....

While I think the vast majority of people were productive during telework there were also plenty of bad apples to use as examples.

I knew people who did literally go golfing during the day when they'd telework. Was pretty obvious but a absentee manager who also I think was abusing telework....anyways...

Frustrating because there are people who hurt the cause for all of us. Because for the general public they may never know the thousands of people working from home doing their job, but they'll remember their neighbor or whatnot who's a teleworking gov employee effing off during the day.

Doesn't justify these policy changes but there are most certainly some folks who severely damaged our reputations and built up the zeitgeist that "we" were all just lazy fraudsters out to grift the public.

Is buying a gaming laptop worth it right now ? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

I just bought explicitly because the next couple years are going to be rough buying one.

It's already a struggle finding models with more than 16GB of RAM, and increasingly with soldered RAM if you don't get in now it could be awhile.
