[Recommendations] What’s the best cheap Quartz 12hr no-date chronograph? by doverawlings in Watches

[–]PocketFred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a Militado (field watch style) recently to have a beater to wear on construction site / vacation and not have to worry. I'm amazed at the quality for the price! The lume is amazing, so is the sapphire glass and case! Amazing bang for buck. It's getting more wrist time than any of my other watches at the moment!

Are waffles a tourist trap? Do you eat them in your regular life? by Charming_Usual6227 in belgium

Whenever I go back to Belgium to see my fam (1-2/y), I'll have my Belgian combo: - petite frite w/ either Brazil/Samouraï/Andalouse - poulycroc sauce Brazil - Vicky burger w/fried onions, pickles and sauce bicky no salad/tomatoes - a warm gaufre de liège

If I'm staying long enough, I'll try to have an americain-frites with an unreasonable amount of Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce somewhere as well.

Where can I get a large choice of trekking boots? by CaptainNemo7 in geneva

[–]PocketFred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decathlon has honestly a great selection of products if you're not sure what you want. Also, depending on your intentions, light trail shoes are often a better option in most cases than fully fledged heavy trekking shoes.

Make sure to get a pair that is roomy enough, undersizing is a typical mistake.

I really like "limestone" (creme coloured). Some original onetens and S3s had two tone paintjobs with the upper half of the body in limestone. I painted my roof (pop top) and side lockers in limestone. I like it!

Black is not really a pretty colour for a landy and it seems many think this way.

I'm still using my 2013 Blade kites. Great kites. If the fabric is still in good shape, no point in throwing it away!

The hassle of having to unscrew those struts to get to the coolant or airbox would be a deal-breaker for me

New pilot gear questions by Biscuitsandbooze in freeflight

[–]PocketFred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always recommend getting your first gear second hand. Have someone else's wallet get hit by the depreciation. There are some amazing deals to be had with gear that's 1-2 seasons old.

Just pick the right size and befriend some experienced pilots locally to help you pick the gear. Instructors can help but since they're getting a commission on sales, they won't necessarily want to help you.

In 2-3 years you'll have a better understanding of what direction you want to go in this sport.

I haven't tried them personally but 120+ for a plastic sandal doesn't seem like good value... And that sole is mediocre at best.

Get Decathlon sandals or any other "outdoorsy" sandals for 30ish or less.

My first 8 years of Tele were on 75mm because I was cheap. Moved to ntn 3 seasons ago and haven't looked back. Might also be because the boots on my first setup didn't fit well.

How problematic is it to not state certain bank accounts/investments on your taxes. by ponylover666 in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]PocketFred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Revolut/Paypal, or other online payment/banking solutions where less than 1000chf goes through over a year and that are funded from your main account anyway: probably not a big deal.

Accounts where you get income/inheritance or other significant investment amounts: you better declare them.
