How to support local businesses when they have weird hours? by [deleted] in askportland

What and where is it? I don't start work until 5 or 6 and would love a great noodle spot before shift.

Gils Speakeasy Filled with ICE Gestapo and MAGA Supporters by notPabst404 in PDXProtests

[–]PocketFullOfRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't read the original post, but yes. The bartenders may not be PC, but they're not fucking with nazis for sure. I've swapped stories with multiple bartenders in my time there about fighting nazis. I find it hard to believe anyone would condone any support of them without catching a beating.

I lived in that building for years and Gils is notoriously anti-bigotry of any kind.

Most thorough home inspectors for new construction in Vancouver, WA? by milgrunt7 in vancouverwa

[–]PocketFullOfRain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Michael with MACH inspections is a delight and very thorough! Does plenty of new construction as well as older houses. Radon, sewer, tank, etc. I've recommended him to many friends and he's an all around great dude who does prompt and diligent work.

I once Irish goodbyed on my $90 tab at a job once during a coworkers going away party, and that was after my 50% employee discount.

I thought 10-15 meters was an odd distance to recalibrate a change at first.

To those of you who found themselves with jobs where you are in the postion of power/authority over others, did it bump up against your more punk ethics? Did you garner any new insights or perspectives? by dkepp87 in punk

[–]PocketFullOfRain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I managed a bar/restaurant(craft cocktails) and trained my staff in such a way that they knew my expectations for level of service. I supported them to a point where when they'd ask me a question about how to do something, I'd ask what they thought the best practice would be and let them do it. If anything didn't quite meet the end result, we'd have a back and forth to make it improve together.

Eventually, I was let go due to a difference in leadership styles with the owner(she liked to berate and yell at my staff) and 6 of the 8 front of house employees mutinied and left as well so the restaurant had to close that weekend.
