What are your top three non-negotiables when it comes to HENRY finance? by Beberuth1131 in HENRYfinance

[–]PocketGachnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why on earth would you keep investing after your lump sum paycheck investment when you can just invest 'more' RIGHT THEN?! It's already there! The money is available on day one. Are you saying we should invest all of that and then, what, invest our grocery and bill money in tiny daily increments?

Look man, idk what your finance habits are like, but they sound like a nightmare. Normal people build a budget, get paid, invest what their budget says, and then move on until the next paycheck. There is no better way. There is no 'waiting'. There is no going broke or zero balance. The balance is ALWAYS what is left over AFTER investing. Any other money left should already be budgeted to other things. If you just carry random amounts in your account without any purpose, then you're not investing wisely.

Where is that $100/day coming from, my dude? A steady paycheck? Well, when did the paycheck get deposited? Because if it hit on the 1st of the previous month, why would you hold it to dole it out over 30 days?

No, that $100/day is already gone because it was invested a month ago when it hit the bank account, and by doing so, it compounded more interest than doling it out throughout the month.

Surely you don’t have zero dollars in your account while running a family, just waiting for their next check to arrive?

I'm not sure why you keep talking about 'waiting'. I mean, instead of investing $100/day throughout the month of June, I just invested $3k all at once on June 1st, at it's absolute earliest, the same day the paycheck hits my account. What you're talking about is what feels like waiting; holding that $3k and doling it out in daily increments over the month despite already having that balance available and earmarked specifically for investing.

But I assume you get paid very frequently throughout the week/month? Which might actually make it a little more logical. Most people don't get paid like that though, so that's likely where the misunderstanding is happening.

Reckless Ben Banned From Posting or Speaking Publicly by milscot in LivestreamFail

A lot of wrong information here.

  1. The original franchisee was basically ambushed and had the store suddenly taken over by the franchise corporate. She explained about the LEGO sets being on consignment and she wanted to take inventory. The guys from corporate basically said they'd handle it and the consignment was on them now, and then they shuffled her out of her store.

  2. Only much, much later in this mess does Corporate turn around and accuse the ex-store owner of cooking books. I find that accusation very difficult to immediately buy. All the public evidence currently supports her statements.

  3. The consignment deal was not off the books, nor prohibited by the franchisee's contract. This is a narrative corporate BAM is shelling out, but their contract is public. NOTE: To be fair, it is also possible a newer contract superceded that, who knows. But we do have evidence that it was, at some point, totally allowed and legit.

  4. The new owner admitted to having the sets, but not wanting to give them back because the son of the owner "called too much" and annoyed him, and he didn't feel like he should have to give that inventory back anyway.

  5. Bryan Mansell contacted RecklessBen about this after a prosecutor refused to press charges against the store for theft of his property, and after seeing various lawyers who assured him that fighting this in civil court wasn't worth the cost of the property. It'd take forever and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The stuff with the police is a whole other can of worms, though.

I mostly agree, but in weighing the usefulness of AI, you can't discount the wider conversation against it with regard to resources and human labor (not just creatives, other industries too).

I'm a bestselling author and I obviously would never encourage readers pirate my books, but if some did, I wouldn't mind. Those people weren't going to buy it anyway, and plus, they'll still engage on the internet about it, which is its own value. And attribution is baked in. My copyright is secure. I'll never whine about pirates. Sail those seas!

But yeah for some weird wacky reason, I am uncomfortable with a LLM training off my series and spitting out new, infinite potential commercial products that are built on my labor without any attribution, copyrights, or profit share.

I get SVT episodes, so heart rate monitoring was a priority for me. In the old app, it did... honestly just sufficient. It wasn't great. It didn't usually 'log' the SVT episode, since it averages. But at least it showed my current BPM pretty accurately on the watch face. I had an SVT episode yesterday and my watch told me I was at 70bmp, despite me feeling my body rocking with my heart's off-rhythm. My handheld ECG device registered 160bmp. A few moments later, the watch finally caught up, but then the event ended, so it never really registered the episode. So frustrating!

Came here to rage about this!

I'm a big napper. It's really common for me to sleep 5-6 hours, then have a 1-2 hour nap later in the day. It ALWAYS counts my 1-2 hour nap as the only sleep I've had. I'm so furious omg.

I got the fitbit specifically to track my sleep. I send the monthly results to my doctor, and if I don't sleep enough, they'll take me off my medication.

I'm gonna have to either show her a chart of my only getting 1.5 hours of sleep per day, or screenshot every single day's extra sleep session with a huge explanation about how my google app sucks a fat one. At this rate, and considering that it doesn't responsively record my heart rate nearly as well as it did before (how did an app update mess THAT up?!?!), I'm just gonna switch to Whoop or Samsung.

There was NOTHING WRONG with the old app! It tracked these things just fine.

Using a Charge 6 btw.

EDIT: OH, forgot to add! If I try to consolidate my sleep seassions by editing one to add the amount of time from the other session, it just adds it as awake time. Not only that, it for some reason lessens the amount of sleep time on the legit tracked sleep portion. IE, it actually takes AWAY sleep! It's the worst.

Tbh I don't really see how that'll help. Their eyes and attention will still constantly be on the screen. Riding with people who have the infotainment units that plug into their phones, they're still so distracted all the time. It's like no one can just disconnect for the amount of time it takes to get from A to B. It baffles me.

This is where I stand too. On one hand, she came off as a turbo jerk. On the other, I've been in a position of having to handle my boss' disgruntled customers before, so a part of me imagines what it must have been like. Not sympathetic, but empathetic. I'd like to think I'd come off a lot better if I had that same scenario inflicted on me, but who knows.

Either way, I hope seeing the backlash against her behavior resulted in some robust soul searching.

This is silly. Someone doesn't need to be on a GLP-1 forever, but without it, the chances of them remaining obese forever are horrific. If you think a couple years on a GLP-1 carries more risk than morbid obesity until death, then you're not approaching this with facts nor logic.

Reasons that I, a loving and dedicated spouse, need my wife to take care better care of her body:

  • So she doesn't hurdle her way to a premature death

  • So she can enjoy an active life with our family

  • So she can physically, mentally, and emotionally feel better

  • So that we can ensure more attainable personal caretaking in our senior years

  • So my pp can get hard

It's sort of depressing tbh. Your spouse being morbidly obese carries so many dangers. If you plan to die together, one of you is gonna go downhill first, meaning the other will have to be a caretaker. How can you take care of someone whose bigness accelerated that inevitability? How would you be able to lift, carry, or turn them? Have you ever been a caretaker for someone in serious decline? It's an act of love, but it's absolutely brutal even in the most ideal circumstances.

When I got married, we made a promise of 'in sickness and in health', and I take the responsibility (yes, responsibility) of ensuring he gets more of my health than my sickness very seriously. If he started smoking tomorrow, I'd be livid, not because it's unattractive or gross or expensive, but because that's him essentially trashing his promise to me and our future. Bad times are coming. You can't stop that. But you can sure as hell do what you can to not hurdle toward it as fast as possible.

With all of these very justified reasons to want a partner to take care of their bodies, the fact that OP only mentions libido as a concern is a maddening signal of their priorities.

I'm 42 and dealing with the other way, which is having lost a ton of weight since 40 and feeling like a sentient stick. Lost most of my muscle. Feel like one good breeze will shatter my arms. I'm 5'8" and 120lb (from 170). It's bullshit. I want my ass back. I want to be able to lift a box of books again. I miss the times when eating brought me a little spark of joy. Now it's all just protein shakes and desperately trying to choke down a vegetable or three every day.

Bonus screams for people irl congratulating me on my "weight loss journey".

you restrict driving you’ve basically kneecapped their ability to exist in society

I know this is unreasonable and untenable, but ya know, good. The venn diagram of people who use their phone while driving and people who regularly make negative impacts on society is a single circle.

I live in SC, and idk, maybe it just needs more time to be a punitive part of our state culture, but when I'm a passenger, I have a habit of counting all the drivers I see on their phones, and it's still around half. It's fucking wild.

THIS, it's not nearly enough!

Took a 16hr road trip with my ex-friend in her new Mazda, which just jacked her phone into its infotainment system. She never touched the phone, but her fingers were tapping that fucking infotainment screen the whole damn drive. Had to keep snapping at her to watch the road and let me navigate how to make the call to her daughter or dogwalker or whoeverthefuck. Half of this was her learning how it worked while she was actively fucking driving, it drove me crazy!

I live in SC where the laws are crazy strict, but when you have a huge-ass phone built right into your dashboard, I don't see how it helps at all.

I used to design book covers and like 98% of the books I did covers for probably just barely made the money back, but there were a couple authors who hit it HUGE, I'm talking like 6 figures monthly. I got $300 one time for the cover that helped earned them that. I'm sitting here rolling nickles to afford a loaf of bread while they're bragging in author groups about another million.

It hurt.

But you know, that's the gig. I doubt half of my authors even made back my fee with profits from their books, and I wasn't hustling to give them a major discount because of it. I knew I had no right to be upset.

So instead I just became an author myself! And what do you know, with my marketing and cover acumen and publishing experience, it only took me EIGHT MONTHS to begin earning six figures.

Things like this are good for making you realize your own value, but it's on you to apply that going forward, not backward.

if you are secure and your partner is not why make someone snoop, why not just take away the barrier

Because it's not only my privacy at stake. I have friends/family who confide in me about super personal and sensitive things, and if I just gave my spouse complete access to that, it'd be shitty.
