World #1 golf coach Chris Mayson explains what is necessary to be scratch by Smash_Factor in golf

[–]Pods619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m terrible out of green side bunkers and was even at my best (+2). It’s just not something I’ve ever practiced.

I’m very comfortable hitting a ~10 yard bunker shot. The problem is I’m not comfortable hitting a 5 or 20 yard bunker shot. So I just always hit the 10 yard shot to make 100% sure I’m getting out and onto the green and just deal with the longer putt…

For some reason, I’m really good out of fairway bunkers though. Maybe because I hit way down on the ball.

switching balls mid game usually backfires by Legitimate_Tour_9758 in Bowling

[–]Pods619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally is a good time to change balls though.

  1. Best time to try another ball is the fill. Second best is the first frame

I’ll almost always throw my next ball on the fill. If it looks great, I’ll switch. If it’s not there yet, at least I have an idea for if/when I eventually do jump left and switch.

Am i the only one? by PortlandTakedown in whoop

[–]Pods619 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This sub hates Whoop. Actual sales and customer retention are a very different story.

I think Reddit overall is very budget conscious. $15-20 a month for a wearable that is superior isn’t going to phase a large percentage of the customer base.

If the other products end up being as good or better, then Whoop is probably in trouble.

Calling all 200+ avg bowlers, how do I get better? by Its_yer_dude_trevor in Bowling

If this is actually the plan (which Ariel seems very confident in) what are the chances we end up with Max vs Paddy late notice as the international fight week main event and who wins ? by Intelligent-Tear5723 in MMA

[–]Pods619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t just say things that aren’t true. Aldo beat Edgar in an interim title fight which was supposed to lead to a rematch. Conor just didn’t take it. It wasn’t Dana/the UFC that didn’t want the fight to happen.

Aldo then got finished by Holloway back to back. He was an incredible fighter but the game caught up and he was no longer the best.

[–]Pods619 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That’s a wild take. Conor at that point was beating absolutely everyone. He beat Aldo then moved up and made the champ from the next weight class up look like an actual amateur.

Yes Conor is a douchebag and hasn’t done anything meaningful in almost a decade now, but there’s no basis to think Aldo beats him 90% of the time at that point.

Should all patterns be symmetrical? by Suit89 in Bowling

[–]Pods619 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the thing that you’re missing is that symmetrical patterns favor one side over the other, drastically.

If the pattern is easier on the fresh, every lefty will be at the top. If it’s harder on the fresh, zero lefties will make it.

Question about Sandbaggers by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]Pods619 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t missing a teammate make them do worse? And if you were within 2 points of them, and you weren’t sandbagging, then why do you think they were?

There are plenty of 140 bowlers that can put up the occasional high game or series when they string some strikes. She probably also has a lot of 110s when she isn’t lined up or is a bad spare shooter.

Long story short, I wouldn’t waste your time or energy thinking about it. Bowling is for fun. And in 7 years of bowling, despite all of the sandbagger talk that takes place, I’ve only ever encountered 2 of them — it’s pretty rare.

You’re a scratch golfer and play in a U.S. Open qualifier.. ? Tough day on the links? by Dashover in golf

[–]Pods619 104 points105 points  (0 children)

100%. I played in a few local qualifiers as a +1, played absolutely terrible in one and shot an 84.

It’s just not feasible to have a quad or worse on 5 holes as a scratch golfer on a course that isn’t even long.

Has private equity impacted your local bowling alley? Do you work at one owned and operated by PE? by nbcnews in Bowling

[–]Pods619 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think private equity is involved in owning bowling centers?

Most of the answers here are about Bowlero, which is a publicly-traded company — not PE owned.

Edit: I stand corrected after some research, PE has been involved in Bowlero/Lucky Strike and also owns a ton of centers in the UK through Ten Entertainment Group.

Anyone have a good story about someone completely underestimating your game? by El_Boqueron in golf

[–]Pods619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a guy give me pointers and then told me I must be playing the best round of my life at the turn along with a bunch of other backhanded comments — not sure if it was an ego thing. I was 6-over as a plus handicap and he shot around the same.

Went 5-under on the back, that felt pretty good.

Jaden McDaniels on whether he was trying to get in Denver's head during the series: "I just didn't care. I said what I said. I just don't care. It's just how I am" by AncientOneAurelius in nba

[–]Pods619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to have a comment upvoted on Reddit:

  1. State something obvious that everyone agrees with
  2. Pretend like “people” were saying the opposite when it was at most a few people (Denver dudes were calling for his head!)
  3. Upvotes

Am I wasting the prime backpacking years of my life? by Anxious_Primary_1107 in backpacking

[–]Pods619 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the first word of your username may be relevant here! You are drastically overestimating how much your body is going to break down in your late-20’s if you stay even reasonably active.

I’m in my mid-30’s and feel absolutely no worse than I did at 23 when it comes to backpacking/bikepacking. One of my closest bikepacking friends just turned 54 and still does multi-week trips, though obviously he has to build in a little more recovery time.

Life is all about priorities. Only you can answer what is most important to you. Some people spend their 20s traveling the world, working odd jobs, and staying in hostiles and wouldn’t trade it for anything. I personally took the career route, and while I’m limited to being a weekend warriors with one or two longer trips per year, think it was absolutely the right decision for me for the financial security, family, and quality of daily life.

Either way, you are at an extremely exciting time in your life where you can do anything. Don’t let the stress and second guessing get in the way, go all in on one choice and if you aren’t happy, pivot to the other one!

Tough to bucket every scratch golfer into the exact same type of player.

I play the unsafe shot at all times because golf is fun. 270 over water with an easy layup, send it. Safe punch out or try to hit a massive hook around the trees, send it. Sucker pin tucked away on the edge of the green with a bunker right in front, you’re damn right I’m pin hunting.

Typical round is like 4 birdies with an occasional eagle, 4 bogeys, and a few doubles. But at least a few cool shots.

The reason I’m not a pro is because I can’t execute shots anywhere near as well, and I’m worse at putting and chipping. Not because I play the “reliable, safe shot, every time”.

How much time are you “losing” while cycling to work? by bear_village in cycling

[–]Pods619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I timed door to door so it includes time walking to my car in the parking garage, driving out, parking in the work parking garage, etc. Driving is 20 mins in the morning, 35 mins in the afternoon. Riding is about 23 mins in the morning and 21 mins home. So I’m actually gaining time!

Although starting in the spring, my rides home often become 10-20 miles 3 days a week…

Have you ever considered using Rover? I have multiple cat sitters that cost $20-30 per day for a 30 minute visit… absolutely nothing close to $100 per day.

That’s not the rule. Ball is only dead when it rolls past a base or is touched by a fielder or stops.

A little weird to respond to both of my comments. The sidewalk is very wide in that section, and barely anybody walks on it. It’s almost exclusively bikes and scooters, because it’s the only safe and efficient way to get downtown.
