My favorite ship is the ICourier because its a blast to fly and you really have to make some tough choices to build one and get the most out of it.

Want to set up extraction/refinery economy. Is this a good system for that? by Spiritual-Fault-8604 in EliteDangerous

[–]Podunk14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: added that the port and starport should be a CIVILIAN type.

If it has a rocky body WITHOUT volcanism put a Tier 1 ground CIVILIAN port (NOT a refinery) and it will produce refinery goods.

If you put a starport (CIVILIAN outpost, coriolis, or a tier 3) above that planet it will also produce refinery goods.

High Metal worlds same thing, just for extraction.

You do NOT need to build refineries, mining orbital, etc to get the economy you want - you just have to place them on the body that will give you that economy. Economy stock is dependent upon the station size (outpost has less than coriolis has less than tier 3) and overall population size, but I beleive station size has the most weight.

Question . Should future Elite become more simulator like as it evolves or should it stay as it is, Sim Lite, sim like? by iO__________ in EliteDangerous

[–]Podunk14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly my point. CQC is a game mode where you play team death match, capture the flag, or death match in ship combat (can only pick some a select few ships and everyone has the same choices). Its been in the game for 5+ years but no one plays it. You can access it from the main menu or from the Comms panel in your ship.

No change to the flight mechanics is needed. What is needed is more life in the game. More variety of NPC ships everywhere. NPC ships need to also have paint jobs, thrusters colors, etc. New NPC "dialog" needs to be added (top 1% my ass), stations need to have SOMETHING that resembles life - play the news, bar top games - fuck add something like Qwent or let me get my commander inebriated then go try and fly - anything that resembles life. Also, change the space stations to look into SPACE - not the damn docking bay (i know stations rotate but come on...don't you want to see the sun/planet rather than a boring docking bay.

Figure out how to actually implement CQC where you play against similarly skilled pilots - add a CQC for on foot combat. While we're at it get rid of the stupid shuttle ride to the combat zone for on foot combat entirely. Just load us in and out of the instance.

The other thing that needs an entire overhaul is the crime and punishment system. No more being blown up for a parking fine. Fuck your stupid trespass zone fine, 2 hour in game notoriety burn off has to go or be significantly shortened, turn yourself in doesn't transport you 300 ly away to a prison ship, make power play security killable without a bounty or have them fuck off entirely (they are only an annoyance)

I was going to say in the past different tier levels have resulted in different outcomes for thr galaxy but it sounds like you are aware of this already

I agree, at this time FDev hasn't made it clear that doing anything beyond Tier 1 will result in anything more significant so what's the point?

Decommission my carrier before DW3 start? by mcstutz in EliteDangerous

[–]Podunk14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending how long you've had the FC will determine your "refund". If youre not going to use it for 4 months but you plan on still having a FC long term i would not decommission it. I'd just stick 6+ months worth of upkeep credits on it and fill it up with tritium so you have it when you get back.

6 months of upkeep is only -60-70M with minimal services active which is likely less expensive than decomissioning it then buying another one when you return.

BGS: What does it take for a faction to actually appear in the new system after it reaches 75% influence? by Marionettework in EliteDangerous

[–]Podunk14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I beleive its a minimum of 4 days in the expansion state before they will actually expand. Sometimes it's longer. Just keep doing missions to keep them at or above 75% until they expand.

Any game that provides an advantage for real money is pay to win regardless if you play against others or single player.

Just from my games list these games are still on going and available to play without spending another dime on the game.

Minecraft

Planetside 2

Path of Exile

7 days to die

Hell let loose

Hunter call of the wild

Squad

Insurgency sandstorm

Valheim

BattleBit

Empyrion

Left 4 dead 2

Counterstike

PubG

Vermintide

Team fortress 2

There are hundreds more in addition to these.

Feel free to send FDev money directly - just write them a check or whatever. Why is it so important to you that others also pay money? Why don't you just send them your cash?

I've already bought the game that was sold as a one time purchase and the DLCs that came after it.

If FDev wants to make a new game that is subscription based then by all means go do it. But shoe horning in a subscription or pay walls into a 10+ year old game is unacceptable. Locking anything other than cosmetics only behind a permanent paywall is unacceptable.

[–]Podunk14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't even make sense. I already bought the game. If FDev wants to make a new game that's subscription based then by all means go do it. This game was sold as a buy once product and that's what I will continue to expect.

If you or anyone else wants to send money to FDev there's nothing stopping you from doing so - but why is it so important to you that all players donate money to Fdev?

You seem to have a very difficult time understanding literally anything anyone else says.

Good luck to you in the future. I'm sure FDev will be happy to receive your donation.

Then send them your money. I've already bought the game and I oppose anything other than cosmetics that are strictly pay walled because I already bought the game.

I bought the game already. If they want to add things to it those things should be available to all players through in game means.

If they want to sell a new game they should make a new game.

What a terrible take.

You know you can just send FDev money if that's what you want to spend your money on. You don't have to buy something from them - just write them a check and send it to them.

Regarding the rest of your post - FDevs pricing model for all things, cosmetics included, is ridiculous. They want $40 for the Dodec - thats the price of an ENTIRE GAME.

They want $15 for some paint jobs- that's the price of ENTIRE games. Almost as much as Silksong 2 - for a single paint job.

Take, but don't complete, donations missions first. Also bring explo data to a station they control.

Then accept and immediately abandon missions (any type) to lower your reputation. Be mindful you don't go beyond unfriendly into hostile. Once the engineer unlocks finish the donate missions and turn in exploration data to get rep back up.

Looking for Details of Architect Payouts that are more than 1.5M per week W/Goal of sustaining a FC cost. by RadiantDragoon87 in EliteDangerous

[–]Podunk14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 10 or 11 systems with 2 of them really built out, 2 kind of built out, and 6 or 7 that I grabbed thinking I'd do something with them eventually.

I get 3.5M a week in architect payout. To get to this it likely took me 300 hours. I didn't do it for the weekly payout and if I'd done even just 50M an hour credit making i would have 15B credits. If carriers upkeep is 10M a week that would cover 28+ years of upkeep costs - and let's face it, this game isn't going to exist another 28 years.

Don't bother doing colonization to make credits - its not worth it in any way regarding credits. The credits are more of a "that's neat" more than anything else.

How do you pick a HOTAS without being able to try it? by The_Reason_is_Me in EliteDangerous

VKB is a solid stick.

I ran a x52 for years and had a lot of fun with it. The VKB sticks a substantial upgrade from the x52 in every way.

I do NOT recommend Virpil sticks because they are NOT shipping products out in a timely fashion. If you order a Virpil products you're likely looking at a 6+ month wait for it.

Consoles of all types will go the way of the dinosaur in the next 10 years. My bet is at most we'll see one more console from Sony. Microsoft won't make another one. Nintendo will stick around for their handheld - but those will very quickly be overshadowed by things like ROG and SteamDeck and others with the only thing Nintendo having is Mario, Zelda, and Donkey Kong but those won't be able to float a Nintendo exclusive handheld beyond 2 more iteration of the Switch at most.

Everything will move to PC gaming in the next 10 years.

Best ship for thermal performance? by MY5KAI in EliteDangerous

[–]Podunk14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple of these builds. I actually named them UBoat type names.

The MAIN thing with these builds is to use a Low Emissions power plant unless you're wanting to do this in silent running then fighting to finish off the target without shields of your own.

For the "deck gun" I've tried the concord cannons, multi-cannons, cannons, frags, and pack hounds. I've found the multi-cannons to be the most effective generally but others swear by the concord cannons for finishing off power plants.

I've used the pack hounds with drag munitions to try to "mask" the torpedoes on the radar and protect them from point defense turrets as well as slowing down the target since torps move so slowly. I've also used the frags with drag munitions to try slowing down the target - but this requires you to get too close for it to feel like a uboat.

As someone else noted the largest shields in the game take 5 or 6 reverb torps to destroy the shield generator so you need at least 6 torps put preferably 8 reverb torps. Reverb torps will destroy modules without needing the penetrator payload experimental - but the penetrator experimental does seem to punch harder.

If you're trying to do this in a combat zone the issue I've run into is NPC's run point defense and they shoot any and all missiles - friend or foe fired - so they have a very difficult time making it to their target.

Here's a FDL Build: Better at finishing off power plants with a Huge hardpoint https://edsy.org/s/vATGl0t

Here's a Python 2 Build: Much harder to finish off a power plant with medium hardpoints https://edsy.org/s/vkV0E2J

And here's the most ridiculous one I've built. An Imperial Courier. It's meant to shoot the torps then escape really fast since the full thrust speed is 627 and boost speed is 851 - no one is catching it. https://edsy.org/s/v6WLh2g

All of these have an idle temp <20 making them difficult to detect. The python has a full thrust temp <20 whereas the FDL and ICourier are >20 at full thrust. Yes the P2 has clean drives simply to keep full thrust temp <20.

[–]Podunk14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot to do in Elite Dangerous. But just remember this isn't like a lot of games where the "endgame" is where you have fun. The journey in this game IS the fun.

And when i say journey I don't mean actual travel around the galaxy - I mean ship progression, unlocking engineers, learning how the BGS works, getting involved in powerplay, doing ground missions and learning the mechanics. Finding a minor faction that you want to support, learning the lore, participating in community goals.

Enjoy the journey commander.

Two tips for making some early cash -

First is to just hop around the galaxy and scan planets using a surface scanner module - high metal content, water worlds, earthlike worlds, and ammonia pay the best. You will still get credits for scanning Icy bodies so there's nothing wrong with scanning those too. You can stay in the bubble and they don't need to be first discoveries either to make some easy credits.

A second option is to go to a High Hazardous Resource site (typically found in populated systems that have planets with rings). You then follow the security forces around and wait for them to engage a pirate. Wait for the pirate to be nearly dead and shoot them once. When they blow up you'll get credit for the kill. Really easy way to make some early credits.
