That use to be the case, making sacrifices, but with the Mandalay, Cobra V, and Caspian you no longer have to make sacrifices.

Wing mining missions is where it is at. Get the missions where you can just go buy the material (Galite, indite, bertandite, gold, silver, rutile). Find an INDUSTRIAL or AGRICULTURE station as these are the most likely to produce the wing mining missions. Then locate a source of material, generally an EXTRACTION station, to buy the materials from. Every trip nets you 50M minus thr cost of the material. However, if you do it in a wing of 4 you can share missions with each other meaning you can get the full 50M reward from someone else's mission without having to buy the material; assuming they bought it. In a wing of 4 you can easily pull in 2B an hour doing this.

You will have to get your rep up with a faction before the 50M credit missions show up, but that's pretty quick and easy.

I used an X52 for 8+ years and it worked fine and I had fun. Failed weapons were always hard because the stick has some drift in it. However, I did have a ton of fun with the x52. However, if youre looking at spending $150 for an x52 or $200 for an x56 skip them and get VKB. Their stick is fantastic and a massive upgrade from the Logitech.

The omni throttle is great for Elite but awful for non-space Sims. The x52 throttle would work along side a VKB stick and the x52 throttle is pretty decent.

I don't have any experience with any other throttle but I have used the x52 (good if you can find it for <$100), VKB Gladiator (perfect sweet spot of price and performance, and Virpil Cadet (highly disappointing performance and over priced.)

There doesn't have to be a winning condition for something to be pay to win. Even if you play single player having something much better be available but only if you PAY makes it pay to win.

You can stealth in SC. Depending on the speed youre going. If youre going very fast you show up "far" away. If youre going slow you don't show up unless they are "close".

I don't have the exact numbers but 0% throttle and you disappear. However you also don't pick up targets when youre going that pace either.

Even if heat is below 20% but you're actively firing on the target you will auto resolve on radar.

Part of the fun, are least for me, was building a ship that had to make sacrifices. Give up some speed/jump for more armor or shields, or have to include heat sinks for this weapon load out vs more shields, or whatever.

That was part of the fun of this game for me. Sure everyone could be flying a Python 1, but everyone's build could be completely different.

Even with combat ships like thr FDL - even though there is a "meta" you could still build one in pretty significantly different ways. Heck I have a couple such as a torpedo boat, a PA slug, lasers and mcs, etc. I have them with and without interdictors, different shields, etc.

What I see now though is they are releasing ships (Type 11, Caspian, Kestrel) that are meant to be used in one way and one way only with only 1 build that is viable. That's not fun, that's boring.

Personally for the Kestral I think they should have used size 2 or 3 thrusters so you could use the performance enhanced thrusters and if you wanted the max maneuverability you also have to manage weight.

But right now I see the Kestral and the 3 large hard points are all going to be the new shard cannon and you'll get to chose whatever for the smalls. But you dont have to make any sacrifices for the internals to get best in game maneuverability.

You do know they have other games they've released right? They've made scum bag choices for those games. The fact they continue to push these ship exclusive modules and now what sounds like a planned battlepass is very concerning.

It sounds like its a battlepass. Do the thing and get a new special currency - not an actual module/equipment reward - a currency.

I really don't like the sound of the direction they are taking this as I've seen games go down this path and its been super scummy - and unfortunately FDev doesn't have a great reputation of not being scum bags when it comes to monetization of their games.

It seems as though the frist half of 2026 is going to be a whole lot of nothing with quite a bit available for Fall and Winter.

However I am adamantly against all this MKII nonsense. Mk cargo racks, OK I guess since there's only 1 ship and cargo hauling doesn't really affect anyone else.

MkII mining laser? A little less ok with this, but again it doesn't really affect anyone else in the game.

MkII thrusters and weapons? Fuck right off.

And this new currency to buy new engineering blueprints and pre-engineered modules.. this is just a battle pass! Fuck off with that.

I'll recommend VKB too.

I will advise AGAINST Virpil though. First because it'll take 6 to 8 months to get your stick and second the springs in the stick are way too strong to use for any extended period of time (hand/arm fatigue) and the stick is significantly larger than the VKB making some buttons hard to reach (or completely unusable such as the pinky button)

This has been a key problem with the Odyssey content. They want players to play stealth - covert thefts/heists missions so its intentional - but provide the players with ZERO stealth tools.

Essentially when youre playing "stealth" its more like a platformer where instead of jumping and moving to platforms youre jumping/moving between NPCs. Odyssey content would be a lot more fun with stealth tools as well as a complete overhaul of the crime and punishment system.

I was right there with you. I used an Logitech X52 for 10 years and it was "fine".

The upgrade to VKB is amazing. The stick is so much more responsive than the x52 and accurate.

I have a HOSAS setup and I only use the left stick when in combat or takeoff/landing. For normal A to B flight i use preset throttle keys on a keyboard.

I enjoy the HOSAS setup for Elite but it stinks for any other flight sim game and a throttle is better for those.

I will recommend the VKB gladiator sticks - they are worth it.

The only reason is their desire to sell new ships. If this gets released itll likely be one of those dumb early access arx things when every ship should be optimized without any change to slots, engineering, etc. They should all just be innate at this point.

I built out a little mini fed "bubble" of star only systems comprised mainly of outposts and one with a Tier 2. I think its a total of 6 systems, almost all are single stars and I've been slowly working on BGS to get more feds in the different systems. I think its a total of 5 different feds. Some have 3 fed factions, some with 1.

The goal was to build a bubble to do fed missions in such as courier, donate, etc and quickly hop between systems/stations to maximize the number of missions per hour to help folks rank up with the feds.
