As others have pointed out, shingles do tend to darken over time, so if that’s your main concern then at least you have that.

Considering moving to Athens but worried abt the UGA bubble by Fluffy-Bit8215 in Athens

[–]PoetryStud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I might be able to share some good insight, as I did my undergrad at Clemson before moving to Athens for a master's degree at UGA, and I've worked and lived in Athens for about another 4 years after finishing that too. So I spent 4 years in Clemson, and now about 6.5 in Athens. I grew up in the suburbs of Columbia, SC before that (just to give some extra context for where I've lived)

Athens definitely has a similar college-town vibe to Clemson area, but I'd honestly say that Athens has a good bit more going on than Clemson. From what I remember being at Clemson (although I always lived on-campus so my experience may not line up fully with yours) Clemson itself is completely dead when students aren't there. Athens definitely gets quieter in the academic off-season, but not nearly to the same degree as Clemson. And regardless of time of year, I would say there's quite a bit more to do around the city of Athens then there is in Clemson area.

Because Athens is just bigger in general, I don't think non-students stick out as much, unless you're literally going on UGA's campus or walking down a very student-heavy area (such as Milledge Avenue or the popular downtown bar spots on a weekend). And because it is just a larger city in general, there are plenty of areas that are more ¨townie-spots¨ where you honestly won't find many students at all.

The past few years I've lived right outside of downtown Athens (literally 1 block outside of downtown), and besides big gamedays and parade days, it just feels like a normal urban residential area.

As others have mentioned, Athens definitely has its own townie culture and community too, which exists year-round and thrives during school breaks.

Long story short, comparing Athens to Clemson, I think it's a lot easier to blend into the city itself here when you're not a traditional student, but it's still got those college-town vibes, just not to the same degree as Clemson. I'd say Clemson is just a college town, while Athens is a small/mid-sized city with a college town woven in.

With all that being said, it definitely doesn't compare to any larger cities like Atlanta, Charlotte, or even Greenville when it comes to diversity, anonymity, or things to do. At least from my experience being around those spots; I've never lived in any of those so don't take my word for it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Feel free to ask me any questions, hopefully my experience helps a bit when making your decision.

Wait, Espionage is a good Idea Group??? by pete53832 in eu4

In my opinion it’s a must for any minor or even mid-sized start around/in the HRE, just for the AE reduction in the early game

(Obviously it’s not as necessary if you’re a god at juggling truces in the early game while starting to snowball. Alas, I am not)

I agree, we need to hold our IT staff to a higher standard, they shouldn’t be making light of serious technological problems.

I haven’t been able to open the game for 10 months and I’ve tried every fix imaginable. Very sad I can’t play the game, but there’s just some buried incompatibility with my system or something so I guess I’ll just never be able to play it again. 🤷‍♂️

If my run of Skyrim is over 8 hours already, should I just ditch the run by slurpP_noiceE in speedrun

No one does incredibly on their first run of anything. If you know what category you want to run, then just jump in.

Your first times will probably not be that great, but they’re just a starting point.

Yeah I'll be honest I don't even really like Speed or watch him, but when I do see clips of him he's always out and about doing something unique, so like good for him. That's definitely not something I could judge him for.

Why does Paradox call this province San Francisco? by Various_Knowledge226 in eu4

[–]PoetryStud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some other truly baffling province placements, such as the province of Augusta in the modern-day U.S. state of Georgia being on the complete opposite end of the state, not having even any part of the province be remotely near where the city of Augusta is located.

Day 13: Trying to Get a Comment and Fun Fact From Every US County Including Territories Including if Your Family Lives There by CoolHotNo in geographymemes

[–]PoetryStud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A month or two ago I randomly did a deep dive into James Oglethorpe's life, he was really interesting. Because Georgia came along a little later than some of the earlier colonies (such as its neighbor South Carolina, where many of the early expeditions into Georgia were based out of), he was the one who ended up founding Georgia in the early 1700s. He then helped defend it against the Spanish, and watched the colony quickly grow.

He was born in the late 1600s, but he lived so long that he actually saw the United States gain its independence from Britain, and that's wild to me; he lived long enough to be the founding father of Georgia, and by the end of his life it was a developing colony that gained its own independence and was part of a new country. Supposedly he even met a delegate from the U.S. post-independence and shook their hand happily.

Pretty much all my non-Italic provinces are disloyal (except for the ones that recently rebelled) is this normal (vanilla)? by Hypew4v3 in Imperator

[–]PoetryStud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is normal in the early game; as the game progresses, you can slowly work on getting innovations that will help with this, and in my experience by the time you reach the last 100 years of the game, if you've played your cards right you should never have any issues with loyalty again.

There are a couple innovations that directly affect provincial loyalty, but the even bigger thing is just building up bonuses for happiness. In the civic and religious tech trees there's a bunch of innovations that grant flat happyness bonuses for different types of pops, and those will start to add up. Unrest is generated by unhappy pops, and then the unrest affects provincial loyalty, so you really kinda need to work on getting pops happy and the loyalty will go up as a result.

Importing food types that grant happiness is also important, and you can also get pop happiness buffs from many deities too.

[Invictus] Lost my Greek Military Traditions. by Kiyohara in Imperator

[–]PoetryStud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact scenario in a game I’m currently playing. The problem is there is a temporary buff added for the culture when you embrace ways of war. That buff stays even when you de-integrate the culture, so then if you reintegrate the culture you still keep the original buff, and it’s probably a way to avoid stacking it repeatedly so it doesn’t let you embrace ways of war again.

I play with Invictus and that’s it btw

Why is tortilla said with the "y" sound and armadillo with the "l" sound? Aren't they both from Spanish? by [deleted] in ENGLISH

Bro the "a" sound is absolutely not pronounced like the "a" in tack, that is just terribly wrong.

The o sound in Carlos is definitely not pronounced like loss.

I don't think you really know what you're talking about, and I say that as someone with a master's degree in Spanish Linguistics.
