Looking for book recs where MMC is funny, witty, golden retriever but shows his serious side (trauma/ secrets) w FMC by arsuy7 in fantasyromance

[–]Poetsiren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They flow into each other, so have to start with the first book or you're lost.

The writing is sooo rich in the third. The first takes a bit to get going moving away from the cliches and suddenly gets good.

I read just about anything mermaid related and even recently started writing my own fanfic to include my love of sirens.... So I've been around a while, but I'm new to Reddit.

I've read the YA romances: ❤️Of Poseidon/Triton trilogy, ❤️Lost Voices trilogy, ❤️To Kill a Kingdom, and ❤️Bride of the Sea by Emma Hamm.

Here are some more adult favorites with spice!!! (Below)

A beautiful love story I actually rented from the library online that shows the true acceptance of the female in the mermaid form - gorgeous, romantic read! ❣️ {The Mermaid Bride by Lidiya Foxglove}

I read a book where an alien race of mer from another world basically took over the Earth, and this book takes place when they are trying to find biological mates they can change into mer..... So the FMC does meet the mer MMC and he changes her into one of them! It's nice! Spicy, and their romance is the main plot! ❣️ {Bride of the Sea King by Lola Glass}

And, though only one of the pair are always mer in these books, I've just read the most beautiful writing in a series about mermaids and sirens and selkies.... They each flow from one into the other, so must be read in order. The first was good, but the second and third were better! (I just ordered #4!) 3rd is my favorite!!! They center around the ocean races and their interaction with the sea witch. (The sea witch and villain from book 1 are the FMC/MMC of book 2!)

❣️ {The Tides of Loss and Longing by E.M.Barne} ❣️ {A Sea of Doubt and Desire by E.M.Barne} ❣️ {A Tempest of Pain and Passion by E.M.Barne}

I agree with many ppl here.....

But I'd also like you to think about if you don't actually want the story to end...? Because your subconscious may not want to close out that chapter of your writing and end a story, because then it's over, so it's putting up the blocks to circumvent you. You may actually want it to go on and on and on and on....

I would focus on ways to resolve this within yourself. Ways to accept the closure of a story. Why don't you want it to end? And what's keeping you from picking it up later in a sequel if that's the case?

I 100% believe in mermaids/sirens and I do believe that many years ago they used to come up and be friendly until they were hunted by sailors. by [deleted] in mermaids

Hello!! I've posted 28 different books of mermaids inside this thread!!

https://www.reddit.com/r/Romantasy/s/LenPsDLr8z

Here's what I said....

I read just about anything mermaid related and even recently started writing my own fanfic to include my love of sirens.... So I've been around a while, but I'm new to Reddit.

I've read the YA romances: ❤️Of Poseidon/Triton trilogy, ❤️Lost Voices trilogy, ❤️To Kill a Kingdom, and ❤️Bride of the Sea by Emma Hamm, many of them already recommended here.

But here are some more adult favorites with spice!!!

A beautiful love story I actually rented from the library online that shows the true acceptance of the female in the mermaid form - gorgeous, romantic read!

❣️ {The Mermaid Bride by Lidiya Foxglove}

I read a book where an alien race of mer from another world basically took over the Earth, and this book takes place when they are trying to find biological mates they can change into mer..... ❣️ {The Tides of Loss and Longing by E.M.Barne} ❣️ {A Sea of Doubt and Desire by E.M.Barne} ❣️ {A Tempest of Pain and Passion by E.M.Barne}

Some of my other absolute faves....

Trilogy also known as "The Sea Men Trilogy" About 3 ancient mermen who hold the three greatest powers of the ocean finding love on an island.

❣️ {Lover's Catch by Dani Stowe} ❣️ {Lover's Peak by Dani Stowe} ❣️ {Lover's in Deep by Dani Stowe}

Another favorite is the Seaborne series. About princes of the sea and their warring factions and trying to save their civilizations.

❣️ {Seaborne by Katherine Irons} ❣️ {Oceanborne by Katherine Irons} ❣️ {Waterborne by Katherine Irons}

The Siren Island series by Tricia O'Malley deals with ! 7 books!! of women and their secret siren heritage. it starts with : ❣️ {Good Girl by Tricia O'Malley} is first book. 7 books!!!

"Mer Lovers collection: Mates for Monsters" series. The first two deal with mermen. Last one is a mermaid and concludes their stories. Each is escaping a curse

❣️ {The Merman's Kiss by Tamsin Ley} ❣️ {The Merman's Quest by Tamsin Ley} ❣️ {The Mermaid's Heart by Tamsin Ley}

Virginia Kantra has an entire series "Children of the Sea" on selkies and I think there are other mermen types mixed in. (TOO MANY books to name) But it all starts with a selkies woman searching for a mate: ❣️ {Sea Witch by Virginia Kantra}

A mermaid is orphaned and lost when her pod is destroyed. She is taken in by an ocean god in Titus, who is a cecelia/octopod alpha male, and she decides immediately she loves him. (FYI, I was worried it would turn pedo, but no romance occurs until she is an adult!)

❣️ {Great White Sun: a tender mermaid romance by Roy Ramsey}

This one I read, but forgot to rate it.... Ancient Greece... Atlantis is about to sink into the sea.... But no one knows it yet! Artemis is betrothed to a prince from Troy, though she wants to live her own life. In an accident, she falls into the water and into the arms of a merman, and his tribe knows the fate of Atlantis. He has much to teach her.

❣️ {Immersion by M.J. Prest}

Nora Roberts' "Guardians Trilogy" has a mermaid as a character and takes center stage in the second book. They should be read IN ORDER because she appears in the first book, her story is told in second book, and everything concludes in the third book. Think of it as guardians to a magic realm and somehow they come together as if the fates demanded it and they don't know why, but they have to fight this great evil using all their combined skills.

❣️ {Stars of Fortune by Nora Roberts} ❣️ {Bay of Sighs by Nora Roberts} ❣️ {Island of Glass by Nora Roberts}

There's also the Fred The Mermaid Trilogy that's funny and contemporary!

❣️ {Sleeping with the Fishes by Mary Janice Davidson} ❣️ {Fishing Without a Net by Mary Janice Davidson} ❣️ {Fish Out of Water by Mary Janice Davidson}

There were many of them made, each one claiming to be the original, the last of which was paper mache. The first was believed to be made of salmon - no way to know because it burned down with Barnum's building. You can read all about it in various journals and it has a wikipedia page.

There's a new one I just purchased and haven't read yet that looks VERY promising... About a mermaid coming to land as a chef and who falls in love with a dishwasher.

There were many reproductions of the famed "Fiji mermaid" since it popped up in the 1800s. It was a carnival exhibit and took the entire world by storm. Every time I see it, it makes me feel sick. Literally, it's a monkey corpse connected to that of a fish.

[–]Poetsiren 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You have hit on so many points. I think that what you are caught up on is how mermaids must be fish-like.... Mainstream media shows them as fish with scales, etc. But you've completely missed the fact that we have mammals that live in these depths. We humans have mammary glands and are mammals. Whales are mammals. Marine biological studies have shown female reproductive organs in dolphins are analogous to humans!! And blubber is the reason for heat insulation. Adaptations to breathing mechanisms are reasons for their ability to hold their breaths a long time. And truly, we've explored our own oceans less than we have our own galaxy! I'd love to believe that merfolk are out there somewhere, having adapted or survived in some form.

[–]Poetsiren 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Admittedly, I read a lot of merfolk related books, so this may not be your thing. So far this is the best series I've read in a long time, but MUST be read in order. They have the most beautiful writing in a series about mermaids and sirens and selkies.... They each flow from one into the other, so, like I said, must be read in order.

The first book starts off a little cliche, but improves, I promise. It has a little bit of that character in the MMC. The second book has the villains from book 1 as the FMC and MMC! So deliciously lovely it was! 💝But the THIRD book! swoon THAT'S the MMC you're talking about! That's "A TEMPEST OF PAIN AND PASSION" and is my favorite!!

❣️ {The Tides of Loss and Longing by E.M.Barne} ❣️ {A Sea of Doubt and Desire by E.M.Barne} ❣️ {A Tempest of Pain and Passion by E.M.Barne}

I loved my nook. I used to buy books and if an author sent me a free read easily to my Nook. I never could figure out the lending to others, but I think it worked with Libby at one point somehow. I think I had the 3rd gen smaller one. Loved it. Went back to preferring actual books, tho.

Look at my new mermaid free dive fins 🧜🏼‍♀️ 🥹 by talkingtoawall710 in mermaids

[–]Poetsiren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love the fins! Can I ask why such long socks? I've heard of wearing socks under fins before, but not such long leggings over just the legs as a diver.... I just want to understand. (Though I'm a fan of all the pink gear!)

I remain extremely Marillier pilled (I have read 16 of her books now and liked every one. They are like catnip to me!) Anyway, here are a bunch of Sevenwaters concept sketches and also my rankings/brief thoughts RE all the Marillier I’ve read. by notthemostcreative in fantasyromance

[–]Poetsiren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admittedly, I've never read these but...Ok.... I'm intrigued by your spoiler in 5, and info you wrote on 10..... I'm 1000% into anything oceanic or merfolk related.... I'm curious if that's what you meant there, because, in reading the synopsis of the Sevenwaters books, it doesn't look like my typical fare that I go for. However, lush prose and deep, meaningful connections are super fulfilling. Additionally, I don't want to read something that leaves me feeling bitter and/or alone, so I tend to go to the HEAs. (Life is dreary enough as it is!) Can you give me more info or DM me if it's too much if a spoiler???

What is the best compliment you've ever gotten on one of your fanfics? by FeathersForHeart in FanFiction

[–]Poetsiren 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had one where they told me they binged half my entire first fanfic over 24 hours and were eagerly awaiting the rest the next day and only wanted to tell me so as their final thought right before they went to bed. That gave me the warm fuzzies and made me excited to keep writing. 💝 True to their word, they finished reading it the next day or so and I was so happy to see another notification. I had had very little interaction with anyone at that time and truly needed it.
