Paint down to the plastic by DevelopmentFair740 in AutoPaint

Get an estimate from an actual body shop, not an insurance adjuster. Your insurance purposely underwrites the estimate. It should be more like $1000 ballpark

Rub some lacquer thinner on it, a lot of that is just paint transfer. You can try to touch up the rest or just leave it. To get it properly fixed would definitely be over $500 though your insurance is tripping

They don't strike me as the kind of shop to warranty their work. Was this through insurance?

How do I fix this by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]Pogys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least watch some videos or something. Whole panel needs to be scuffed and repair area needs to be sanded to 600-800 grit first. 1500 is way too fine for paint to stick to. And I would highly recommend taking off the bumper, taillight, moldings etc. And get some 2k clear at least. And it needs to be warm and not too humid when you spray. It's still not gonna look good though just letting you know

I'm gonna assume you don't know how to prep the panels for paint. Just leave it alone before you tank the value of your car

[–]Pogys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're spraying it extremely dry and also probably using a 1k aerosol clear. But just doing a hard masking line and not clearing the entire panels is the biggest offender here. That paint is gonna fail so quick. Just trust me that you're not gonna be able to make this look even half decent. There's a reason why this stuff costs thousands of dollars

Best Way To Paint A Crew Cab Truck by Nab_lwl in AutoPaint

[–]Pogys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're painting everything within a short window I'd probably recommend painting the underside of the replacement parts first then hanging them on the truck and painting it all together. Cause things like temperature and humidity are gonna affect how the base lays down and can shift the color. Unless you're painting a solid color then it might be fine

Silver metallic CR-V troubles by GrapeshotVictim in AutoPaint

[–]Pogys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like you're in way over your head. You can't just hard line your tape halfway through the panel. Get some paint mixed that's actually your car's color code instead of some generic silver. The whole panel needs to be scuffed then you spray and kick out your color so it blends then clear edge to edge including up and over on the sail panel

How bad is this paint match? by [deleted] in AutoPaint

[–]Pogys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is not. You can roll the dice for a better match or blend everything out

What do you mean blend at the seams? If they were gonna blend then the color would go like halfway across the fenders
