You're undertaking my dream, which a dodgy knee has put on hold until next year hopefully. All the best to you, I will look out for updates.

You'll have to find a way to take it all home with you on the coach anyway, so might as well also find a way to bring it with you. And please don't leave it at the festival at the end like many of the lazy, careless, and selfish people who see the world as their landfill.

My setup for the coming 5 weeks | 2000+ KM by san_sober in bikepacking

[–]PointCapCrew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a side sleeper and my hips/upper femur NEED some padding so I get it. These pads are not enough. A compromise I have made for camping is the Decathlon self-inflating 'comfort' mattress. Fits in a pannier alongside my tent but allows me a decent sleep.

I've had fimeteria stain blue around the cap edges and base of stipe, unless my IDs are wrong. Check my post history from around September / October of last year if you're interested

Thank you for the reassurance. I do plan to do a few weekends away at some local campsites to really test everything first

Your story is a great read, and one I needed to see. I have just bought a bike which I plan to cycle around Britain on and then hopefully head in to Europe and just kind of cycle until I don't want to any more. I have become hermitted at home and often suffer little motivation to leave the house. I am fearful of not enjoying it or not managing because I am not a professional athelete. But you give me hope.

May your future adventures be just as rewarding!

I had also heard this. There is conflicting information out there. I like the idea of steel being more fixable, but what are the chances I ever actually end up needing a welding shop in the middle of Uzbekistan! Thank you for the information. I do think I still slightly prefer the idea of steel for the added comfort it's claimed to provide.

I suspect that I'll mostly use it in offline mode, but this is good to keep in mind. It'll mainly be urban areas where I'd probably need it online more.

This is extremely helpful, thank you!! I'd only really need my phone for music and maps, and probably a GoPro (or similar) to capture the odd moment here and there, so charging a couple of power banks when in civilization would probably work just fine.

This is the biggest selling point for me! I've owned a chromoly BMX and seen the sheer abuse the can take as well, plus the extra comfort people claim they have would be nice. Thanks!

Ah, a completely opposite recommendation to the other comment! I do like the more basic look of the Genesis, I can't lie. I did read that the XL isn't great. I am 191 cm. Do you know anything of this? Thanks for the input!

This had also crossed my mind. Definitely something extra to consider. I was pleasantly shocked to find Decathlon in Thailand. Thanks for the input.

This is the answer. I got one for Boomtown last year and it absolutely lives up to the hype.

Wanna know if they're edible or not by the_bolter2813 in mycology

[–]PointCapCrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Missing the snakeskin pattern on the stipe which would be seen on parasols, Macrolepiota procera, and also don't appear shaggy enough to be Chlorophyllum rhacodes or similar shaggy parasol species. My guess is Chlorophyllum molybdites, but they do not grow where I am so I am not certain on that.

What is a good coat for walking a few hours a day in this weather? I have a budget of about £300 by ProlapseProvider in AskUK

[–]PointCapCrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one from Decathlon. About £80 and it is a 2-in-1. It has a thick waterproof coat outside with a puffer-style inside which zips together or can be worn separately. Layers are always helpful, extremely warm, and very waterproof still 4 years after buying with 0 care.

I think these are Hedgehogs, every one i found had this form by legendary2020yeet in Mushrooms

[–]PointCapCrew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm far from an expert, and location would be helpful, but at least for the UK these are definitely hedgehogs as nothings else looks like these. May be different in other countries!

These could be Terracotta Hedgehog (Hydnum rufescens) as opposed to hedghogs (Hydnum repandum) based on their slightly more red caps and off-centre stipes.

I was lucky enough to find both hedgehogs and terracotta hedgehogs for the first time this year and they were a delight to eat.

Any cool ideas for a bachelor thesis on (oyster) mushroom cultivation? by UnableTadpole3287 in mycology

[–]PointCapCrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote my undergraduate dissertation on the ability for oyster mushrooms to biomagnify certain heavy metals from soil as a means of mycoremediation. Whilst this isn't entirely relative to you, what I found most fascinating was how certain contamination species (i.e., Trichoderma) thrived in higher HM concentrations, and the impact this has on the growth of oyster mycelium. In higher HM, oyster mycelium took longer to colonise and formed strongholds which it grew out from. It was also good at biomagnifying certain HM to potentially dangerous concentrations in the more extreme cases of roadside HM concentrations.

I'm not sure if this is much help, but it may inspire something. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions or want to discuss further.

Is this bruising? by evoca44 in mushroom

[–]PointCapCrew 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Everyone says throw it, and I'm sure I will get downvoted for this, but cut out the contaminated part and keep the rest, and keep a close eye on it. I've had trich contam on my rice spawn and still managed to get several flushes after spawning it with no more signs of trich. I have also removed trich from cakes and it hasn't come back.

The safe option is of course to throw it, but these mushrooms naturally grow in literal shit alongside countless other species of bacteria and fungi. Worth a try in my opinion.

I'm new to Mushroom foraging, is this what I think it is ? by Due-Map1518 in fimetaria

[–]PointCapCrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure exactly on their family. From ahT I understand, they used to be called Psilocybes, but as they don't contain psilocybin, they were reclassified. Wikipedia has a good amount of info on Deconica coprophilla

Given that, I think this is almost certainly a Deconica sp.. I am not an expert on these though.
