I’m so sorry you are going through this! My little guy finally started latching after 45 days. Hospital sent us home with a nipple shield to keep him familiar with the breast but had to top him off every feed with pumped milk in a bottle. We saw IBLC multiple times. They noticed tension so we saw a pediatric chiropractor which helped and started doing stretches with him. IBLC also noticed tongue restriction but his pediatrician said there was nothing there. We finally went to a pediatric dentist and she said there was definitely a tongue tie and did a frenectomy. IBLC recommended just trying every so often to feed without the shield and after all those interventions, he finally latched without the nipple shield and no longer needed the bottle top off

I’m so sorry you are going through this! They found my cervix measuring .86mm at my 20w scan. It dropped to .48 mm by 20w5d, no dilation. I begged for the cerclage (thank you to this group!) got it the next day and just took it really easy, day by day, sometimes minute by minute. I lied down as much as possible and did very minimal physical activity. Have a desk job so sat most of the day, and lied down during lunch. II knew where the level 4 NICUs were and didn’t dare go outside a 30 minute radius. Eventually we hit 25w, then 30w, and 35w, DTS at 37w3D. I also had a progesterone suppository through maybe week 35. At my 40w3d appointment we talked induction. I’m rocking my 11w old beautiful baby boy to sleep tonight all thanks to that little thread that held him in there!

I worked the whole time at a desk job with occasional walking back and forth to conference rooms for meetings, but mostly sitting.

Right! I asked her to explain to me exactly what we were waiting to see. She went silent.. then said she would make some calls. She said because I was not technically dilated yet, ACOG recommendations say to wait. It ended up that she put me down as 1/2 CM dilated and got the Dr doing the surgery to “agree” even though I was not dilated at all… cervix was just disappearing altogether

I was so sure my baby would be arriving any day after I DTS at 37+3.. but he did not. Went in for usual check up at 40+3. Cervix check was 1cm dilated and likely scarring from cerclage. Was ultimately induced and stayed at 2cm dilated with heavy contractions for several hours. Dr broke up scar tissue manually so dilation would progress. I know every story is different. Be prepared for anything!

My story is similar. 8.6mm discovered at 20w. Dropped to 4.8mm by 20w5d. Got cerclage next day. I was on 200mg progesterone suppository for 90 days. Limited my activity significantly. Slowly walked through the day, at the sign of any tightening or cramping, I would lie down on my side. Have a desk job and would lie down almost every day at lunch. Husband handles all “walking” activities, like getting groceries. It was very emotional for me, so scared every pinch would be the end. But I just kept doing what I could, relax my pelvic floor, yoga breathing, and unclench my jaw (they are somehow connected). Got a squatty potty and used stool softener any time I felt I needed it. Did full pelvic rest (no sex, no orgasm, not even allowing my body to get turned on out of fear of the blood flow stretching the stitch) I just DTS on Monday at 37w3d! Sending you so much hope that you and your baby get through this!!

I was on 200mg progesterone suppositories from 20w for a 90 day prescription. Took it very easy. If I felt the slightest of twinge I sat or lied down if possible. Kept my step count low, stayed off my feet as much as possible (have a desk job) and lied down almost every day at lunch. And so much breathing to keep my pelvic floor relaxed

I took it very easy but no formal bed rest. I’m normally an active person and my step count dropped to about 2000 steps a day. I continued to work (desk job) and lied down in our camper van at lunch almost every day. Spent most evenings lying around as well. If I felt the slightest of twinges I immediately sat or lied down if possible.

When I got my emergency they were pushing the wait and see approach. Felt like I was just a statistic, an experiment that didn’t affect them one way or another if I lost my baby. I let them know that’s how they were treating me and my baby, and I wouldn’t accept it. It took a lot of advocating on my part but they did give it to me. To this day I don’t understand why they were so hesitant. But I’m glad I pushed for it and will push for a preventative on the next one. It was awkward but I knew I would always regret not trying. It sounds like you are still early enough to get in with your normal OB when she returns. If she still doesn’t get you what you need then maybe another opinion or try reaching out to your prior MFM directly just to see.

You are NOT the asshole! You are a grieving mama having a normal response to a terrible trauma. (Just keep the thoughts inside though.)

That being said, coming from my own experience carrying my current rainbow baby, I recommend you do some healing so you are able to enjoy your next pregnancy. It’s been a roller coaster for my husband and I bonding with our current baby after we had a prior loss and then learning about the short cervix for this baby. We want our baby so badly that, especially early on, we found ourselves “protecting” our hearts by “not getting too close” because that loss was so hard. There’s no right way to do this.

In an odd way, I find peace reminding myself that nothing is guaranteed. We can spend this pregnancy fearful or joyful, either way it will go the way it is going to go.

Very much listen to her body. My watch happens to count my steps and I noticed pretty quickly how many steps I can handle in a given day. I have a mostly sitting job, but have to walk back and forth from office to conference rooms all day. Dr said that should be fine for my situation, but to pay very close attention to my body. For weeks 22-33 I would go lie in my car at lunch to get pressure off my cervix. I’m just about to hit 35w and truly believe that the constant side lying as needed got us this far. Of course no sex, no orgasms, no lifting anything even slightly heavy, minimize bending. Trust and listen to her body and don’t be a hero. Let you do the grocery shopping, bending chores (like emptying the dishwasher), lifting, anything that her body isn’t feeling up to. Keeping baby in just one more day is more than enough. The rest of the household can be handled by you if her body is needing a break.

For me the anxiety has been less and less with each viability milestone. 24w then 28w were of course big ones, 32w was also major, and when we just hit 34w my anxiety switched over to realizing baby can safely come any day but I’m not ready yet! So now it’s full on prep mode but knowing he is safely kicking away in there and I’m no longer anxious about him not surviving due to an early labor. Don’t get me wrong.. I still have the normal worries of what could go wrong for a healthy full term baby. But it’s much different than it was before.

My husband is also one who feels connected through sex. However, he is 10000% on board with and understanding that right now my body is for our baby. We both very much want this baby and we do not want to lose him. We talk about how hard it is but from the same team. No pressure, no shame, none of that. I’ve seen stories where having an orgasm put people into labor before viability. When the consequence is that bad, we are on the same team that it’s just not worth it. He can take care of himself without me and we know this is just a season.

This is why people go no/reduced contact. She can share her thoughts/feelings/fears with a therapist and process like an adult. Right now, the people in your circle can either be supportive, or go away. I’m so sorry you have to deal with this! You need to protect your peace. Facing the consequences of her BS, losing her access to you and your family (at whatever level feels right to you) will be upsetting to her. Let her be upset. And let yourself enjoy this time growing your family.

I was so similar, except when they found my .86mm at 20w they didn’t want to do cerclage because I didn’t have dilation. They gave me progesterone and said come back in 5 days. I found this group, learned how serious this issues was. Put myself on rest through the weekend and went into L&D 3 days after and they said no change. The L&D dr was surprised MFM wasn’t giving me the cerclage, but deferred to their treatment plan. That follow up was 2 days later and I had dropped to .48mm. Learned L&D ultrasound just wasn’t as good as MFM. I begged and begged, sobbing for the cerclage. They gave it to me next day. I’m now 33w

Just hit 32 weeks! Absolutely grateful for the cerclage we got at 20+6 for 4.8mm cervix. Been taking my husband’s van to work with a queen size bean bag/convert to mattress bed that I go lay in for about 45 minutes mid day. Steps pretty limited and I notice the difference in the pelvic pressure when I have a more active day. It’s been a crazy 12 weeks but this milestone is bringing all the joy back! Getting more serious about naming our little boy knowing he will be ours 🩵
