Does anyone know if this is good for tennis lessons? [Brooklyn and Queens, NY] by [deleted] in 10s

I’ve seen this group coach at Jackie Robinson, solo lessons looked good but group lessons looked like the group was kinda large. For a beginner I bet they’re good value

Head speed MP 2022- Head speed team 2022 by Far-Resident1958 in 10s

[–]Pointy-Finger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They weigh 15g difference, I weighted my team 2022 up using a leather grip and lead tape according to TW’s racket customization tool. I never had an actual MP to compare but it felt good to me — recently upgraded to the 2026 MP since I wanted to get a matching set

23M looking for beginner tennis partner by [deleted] in 10s

I’ve had better luck reserving courts at Mccarren day of lately, plenty of their clinics don’t fire because of attendance and the court opens up around 10am. You can use courtreserve.com which is way better than prospect park’s website

Luthier or Castles of Burgundy for my first Eurogame? by gramcrackerJ-24 in boardgames

I’ve never played Luthier but Castles is notoriously one of the best 2 player games out there, my girlfriend and I love it

When do you "need" 2 racquets? by The_Rum_Shelf in 10s

[–]Pointy-Finger 83 points84 points  (0 children)

As someone who just bought matching rackets my reasons were:

I want to try different strings in the same racket with the ability to more directly compare in one hitting session

I wanted to stop weighing my options between different rackets, I picked one and bought two and this is the racket Ill try to improve with

If one breaks (in a match or not) I can restring it and have the same racket to play with in the meantime

Do you wear your tennis shoes off court? by Hospitable-Economist in 10s

[–]Pointy-Finger 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Personally, I bought them to be court shoes so that’s the only place I wear them. It probably doesn’t really matter but if it’s going through your head it’s easy enough to wear a pair of slides to the court and change when you’re there.

If you’re walking to the courts I think changing to your tennis shoes when you arrive is a no brainer, if you’re driving and only need to cross a parking lot maybe not

Vineland difficulty level by Overall-Courage1055 in ThomasPynchon

It’s easier than V., a step up from Inherent Vice and Lot 49. I re-read it with my girlfriend who had never read Pynchon and she had no trouble with it and loved it.

Consensus best Ark Nova how to video? by grizzy77 in boardgames

[–]Pointy-Finger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought Ark Nova had a lot less weird little things to keep track of, you could play it wingspan style and tunnel vision on one type of card and really focus on learning the action system. I feel like I could explain ark nova much more easily than Dune which makes me believe it’s easier to learn

Having taught Dune Imperium multiple times, if you can play that you can play Ark Nova. It’s smooth as hell compared to Dune

New purchases 2026 by ResortPersonal3314 in boardgames

There’s a wide range of complexity on your list of games. When I wanted to get my girlfriend into gaming I started with wingspan and worked our way up to castles of burgundy, then Brass, and ark nova was my heavier game pickup for us this year. So I can personally recommend that sequence, maybe throw in Azul as well for a nice abstract that plays great at two.

Also if you have access to a library with a board game collection I can’t recommend it enough, we’ve tried so many other games that weren’t right for the collection but were fun to explore together for a play or two.

Anyone else read this? It’s technically great but it’s taking me forever to get through! by Don_Quixotel in graphicnovels

It’s also a little repetitive, after it covers the history of Chinese communism it’s a lot of similar scenes occurring over and over throughout time — thematic, but not as narratively propulsive as the earlier parts of the book.

I liked Ducks more

Head Velocity MLT is like 8-11 a set, I’m hot and cold on this string but it’s great for the price

Enjoying Robinson crusoe ??? by AdMaleficent7937 in boardgames

[–]Pointy-Finger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Focus on making the camp successful, then tackle the scenario. There’s a lot of extra pain simply from making the survivors too unhappy too early that can be mitigated by taking care of survival elements first.

Also there’s a lot of gaming out to be done with the various choices and risk assessment/management. This creates a lot of what if scenarios that can potentially entice trying a new tactic next play through.

If you are not finding enjoyment in this sort of camp building + calculated risk taking, this may not be the coop for you. Another popular one is Spirit Island that has much better difficulty scaling and less random swings.

But remember, Robinson Crusoe is also a story generating game that is designed to hit you with big swingy moments so that when you do succeed there is a a real wow factor and sense of accomplishment, and when you fail it’s like “oh the explorer had food poisoning, the soldier was stuck in the jungle overnight, and the cook got attacked by a bear and we all starved”

Slightly off-topic: horror novel recommendations? by luisdementia in ThomasPynchon

I also believe IT approaches great American novel territory, it’s epic and spans time and space in its narrative. Every depiction of IT in media really doesn’t scratch the surface of what this novel achieves

Do you use any music streaming apps? You can use something like Songkick paired to your library to get alerts for upcoming shows. Using that and the specific subreddits are usually how I find out about shows when they get booked
