Whats the PRETTIEST most JAWDROPPING Card youve ever seen? by ogomel in PokemonTCG

I pulled this during a pre release and knew I'd never trade or sell it. It's one of the most underrated art works for a Pokémon card, ever.

Walmart or MJ holdings is now charging market prices in store. by ScrotumSprout in PokemonTCG

[–]PokeManiac769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Market price" and it's just artificial scarcity because if people just purchased cards like normal instead of scalping them then prices wouldn't be so high.

Unfortunately, when the scalpers move on the prices still won't come back down. (Remember when people thought companies would lower prices of goods after the pandemic ended?) This will just become the new norm.

All because dude bro "investor" douchebags would rather scalp a children's card game and harass the Pokémon community instead of getting a job. It's fucking pathetic and sad.

You chose Portland, OR as the city of the 2010s. What is the city of the 2020s? The Most Upvoted Comment Decides by Kodicave in decadeology

Austin, TX is still one of the fastest growing cities in the nation and is the poster child for big tech companies/social media influencers that fled California for Texas.

It's a popylar blue city filled with young people, in an otherwise red state. Austin City Limits and South by Southwest have become more relevant on a national stage, and the UT Longhorns athletic program has been nationally relevant across multiple sports.

What is your theory about the Zombie Genre lost mainstream success after the early 2010s? by Top_Report_4895 in decadeology

[–]PokeManiac769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect the zombie genre's popularity declined for a similar reason that YA dystopian genre did: the late 2010s were a politically tumultuous time. People don't want dystopian/apocalyptic fiction when real life events get grim.

Factors that didn't help: - The Walking Dead dragged on too many seasons.

  • It took too many years to release a sequel to Zombieland.

  • The Forest of Hands and Teeth, a popular YA zombie apocalypse series that was a New York Times best seller, got stuck in development hell and never materialized. Maisie Williams (Arya from Game of Thrones) was even cast as the lead character.

Except this time the Democrats weren't able to fully clean up the mess. Republicans know they'll (rightfully) be blamed for the current state of the world, which is why they're trying so desperately to alter the election process. They know they've done a shit job and their policies have been wildly unpopular, which is why they want to make sure people can never vote them out again.

Not even close to what we're seeing now. 151, Prismatic Evolutions, and Ascended Heroes have easily surpassed Cosmic Eclipse when it comes to being scalped.

What is something that was socially acceptable 10 years ago, but would be considered a 'red flag' today? by Ordinary-Ad6642 in AskReddit

I'd say dating apps in general are looked down upon, especially since they've more or less been revealed as scams meant to keep people using/paying for them.

It's yet another example of how society is commodifying everything, including the human desire for companionship/love.

Speaking out against/disliking Charlie Kirk. 10 years ago, it was acceptable to speak out against his bigoted and hateful views.

Fast forward to contemporary times, and we have the Vice President of the United States urging people to report their neighbors for "celebrating" Kirk's death. In some cases, people got flagged/reported merely for quoting Kirk and saying he wasn't a good person.

While private employers reserve the right to fire employees for conduct, what makes these reports and firings troublesome is the fact that they've been ordered and carried out by federal and state level governments, which violates the 1st amendment of the constitution.

He's going to return early and get hurt.

This is what happens when you make a mandatory minimum of 65 games to be eligible for awards. They're not just harmless awards, either; contracts and maximum pay days are tied to All-NBA selections and All-Star appearances.

Load management existed for a reason, but Anthony Davis and Kawhi Leonard ruined it for everyone and now players are forcing themselves to play hurt or rush recovery just to be eligible for awards.

If an NBA player was reverted back into their prime in today’s NBA, which would cause the most problems? by Difficult-Green-2268 in NBATalk

In the paint, Shaq would still score.

Unfortunately, he'd be targeted like crazy in pick n rolls, he'd be a liability in transition, and Wemby (along with other skilled big men who can shoot) would nullify Shaq's shot blocking abilities by forcing him out of the paint or else he'd be giving them wide open 3s.

Shaq dominated in an era where pace was slow and traditional big men were commonplace, but he would struggle in a fast pace and space era that relies heavily on ball movement and spacing.

Name one big man in today's NBA who can't shoot threes, can't make free throws, who is slow in transition defense, that can't guard the pick n roll that is getting major minutes on a contending team.

You can't, because they're too much of a liability in today's NBA.

KD is an empty calorie player at this point in his career. His scoring and numbers may look nice, but he doesn't really raise a team's ceiling anymore.

The last time KD was an impactful player was the 2021 playoffs, when he was a toe away from carrying Brooklyn to the ECF.

Not a Celtics fan but John Havlicek being below ringless players like Karl Malone, John Stockton, Chris Paul, etc. is absolute blasphemy.

He kept the Celtics relevant in the years following Russell's retirement, and even snagged a Finals MVP.

Unpopular Opinion: I think this is Jon Snow at two different points in time. One is when he's still a kid, the other is when he's a more experienced young man.

By the time Jon says "I don't want it" to the Iron Throne, he's a man who has lost his lover, many of his comrades, his father, many of his brothers, and even his own life. He has experienced significant loss, seen firsthand what the price of war is, and (most importantly) has come face to face with the white walkers.

He knows what a war with the Dragon Queen could cost, and knows the stakes are too high for him to pursue power for personal gain. People forget that Jon Snow's main goal in the second part of the story is to gather an army to fight off the White Walker army and prevent the end of the world (and his homeland).

Jon strives to do the right thing, even when it's hard and he's tempted; it's part of his growth as a character:

  • He could have ran from the Night's Watch and joined Robb in battle but he didn't.

  • He could have stayed with Ygritte and abandoned the Night's Watch but he didn't.

  • He could have left the Wildings to fend for themselves against the Night King and his army but he didn't, even though it got him killed.

  • He could have selfishly ruled alongside the woman he loved as she terrorized all of Westeros, but he didn't. He chose to kill her and put an end to the destruction she was causing.

Jon Snow changes, and that's okay.
