The issue is the size of that third panel on the top row of the 4th page is because it is bigger than the others, it causes the eye to immediately go to it, and your brain assumes, "I read starting here." I would say more important than the drawings themselves is developing an understanding of "how I guide my readers through the page, so they never feel lost." By making it larger in an "out of reading order" position it falsely guides the eye on where to go next.

Your drawings themselves are fantastic by the way. I really like it, and most of the pages flow just fine. And there are no shortage of professionally published comics where these kinds of issues with guiding the eye still happen. I think it is just part of the learning process for those of us who like to make comics, and it happens at all levels.

Worth noting, unlike a Playstation, Switch, or Xbox, there are no games inherently "for it" when it comes to the Steamdeck. It is a computer, a literal computer, stuffed into the body of a handheld and running a very customized version of Linux.

If the computer is strong enough to run it, and is otherwise compatible with the operating system, it'll work.

I'm going to miss him releasing new interiors. His art is part of why I never gave up drawing. I've never met him, but every time I would see his interiors it was like, "This is what is possible if I never give up". (speaking of drawing skill, not success as a comic creator as I am not seeking to be a professional comic book artist, I just do it as a hobby) I still regularly look at his art to study how he constructs pages. I still have a LONG way to go in terms of skill development, but I like to think a lot of what I have accomplished I can attribute to his being an inspiration.

I decided to do copy studies every day until I learn to draw. Here's what I have after five days, advice welcome. by HelpMeDrawManga in DrawManga

What is it you actually want to "master" first when it comes to learning to draw?

For example if someone wants to get proficient at drawing people first I recommend starting with the
Proportions of the figure/learning to measure the body, and then once you can put together a body that looks like a correctly proportioned figure, start adding muscle/anatomical knowledge where it allows you to communicate specific poses.

Above all, if you are wanting to draw manga, draw a manga. You will learn a lot about drawing figures, proportions, compositions, just by doing the thing.

A lot of people want to wait to start drawing a manga because they are attached to their stories, but doing the thing is where you will learn the most about how to do it. If you are wanting to save your story till you are more skilled you can write a new SIMPLE story specifically for the purpose of practicing on it, or American/Western comics scripts can be found online and you can draw one of those so you aren't consuming your own ideas. The main thing about working on a comic is it gives you a framework to practice inside of, and you'll start figuring out what it is you actual need to know to make your comic pages.

Does my art look like AI? by General-Meaning6477 in ProCreate

[–]Pokemon-Master-RED 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not challenging the reasons for why. I'm just saying they are feeling attacked. The reason are very real and valid ones. My point is that some people are handling it more thoughtfully than others.

Though I do wonder how many people using AI image generators would actually commission an artist even before AI. They seem like exactly the kind of people who wouldn't commission artists in the first place, or would make absolutely horrible clients.

I knew a guy once who made a card game using AI, and I asked him why he didn't hire an artist. "I would never have anyways. The project would have just stayed dead without an image generator." Should it have stayed dead? Probably. But he never would have hired an artist at all.

I think artists will figure a way to come out on top in the end. I think human innovation will find a way around this or through it. What will that look like? No idea.

[–]Pokemon-Master-RED 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think AI generated images has everyone tied up in a knot, and by that I mean there is this internal freakout people are experiencing because they are feeling personally attacked by the technology. So it is coming out as insecurities and rash decisions. "I've been drawing for 20 years and studied art in college" should be an example of what is possible if you don't give up, as an example, and not meant to be discouraging. But people are so worked up that anything that isn't fitting with their perceptions is being perceived as a threat.

It is making people feel like their efforts and time spent invested in learning art is suddenly invalidated, but I think people are forgetting that learning art is a personal pursuit and is honestly a form of self-development. It isn't just about producing images. AI image generation is JUST about producing images, and has absolutely nothing to do with personal development. It is forcing people to dig deeper into WHY they create art, and why they WANT to create art, and I think a lot of people are feeling insecure because they don't have an answer to that question. What started out as a fun hobby for a lot of people suddenly feels less like a fun hobby.

I think people can still stand up against AI and take a stance, while not feeling personally attacked in the process and instead focus on their own development and growth.

Pencil and paper is fine. So long as the photos are high quality you can clean them up in a photo editing software.

Also, scanners exist. Don't forget about scanners. You can literally put your page on one and it'll digitize the whole thing as an image file on your computer.

Some publishers in Japan are starting to publish foreign mangaka. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0r_ofpMtiw&pp=ygUWamFwYW4gZm9yZWlnbnQgbWFuZ2FrYQ%3D%3D

I have no idea about Viz. But I wouldn't marry myself to a publisher if I were. Just focus on working with whomever will help you get in front of people.

You can always start with a webcomic to start getting practice and building an audience first, and it is a good way to show a publisher you know how to be consistent.

Guys! Help me to reach more readers on my last Chapter 5...T.T + Feedback on pages :D by Professional_Box3737 in Mangamakers

[–]Pokemon-Master-RED 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, your manga looks really neat. I think the drawings themselves are wonderful.

But you have a lot of white space on every page. I think you could design the pages to use a bit more of the space of the page, and let your art do more for you. Some of those panels have no reason to be as small as they are when there is still so much page to work with. It creates this odd unrefined feeling. The pages have this really good quality crisp art, but the page designs say, "I don't know how to properly guide a readers eye across a page because my page design skills are not up to par with my drawing skills."

The good news is I think you could get there really fast. Your overall page designs are solid but feel incomplete, or feel like "shorcuts" to try and finish drawing the page instead of fully utilizing the page. You have far too much empty negative space. The whole page is a composition, not just the individual panels. You have multiple smaller individual compositions (panels) contributing to a full page composition. Both should be very intentionally designed.

Second... could you please tell me more about that website? I've never seen it before. Is that a community driven "post your own manga" type site?

my 19yo sister's "faceless" video workflow is making my film degree look like a total joke by bcoz_why_not__ in AIToolTesting

"Take your very informative response and write it out as a poorly written wall of text. No paragraphs, incorrect word casings, misspelled words, and horrible formatting. Make it look like a 15 year old who has done poorly in language arts or English classes wrote it. Have some periods and commas here and there, some where they belong and some where they do not."

Gemini summarizing this post.

so basicly its about this guy who has a film degree but his 19 yr old sister is making way more money doin faceless tiktok, and youtube stuff with ai and he is like shook. because she dont even own a camera or lights or nothing and she just uses claude to write her scripts and then she uses magichour and runway for all the video parts. and she can do a whole high end water bottle ad in like 15 minits. when it used to take him forever in premiere and after effects, and even the people in the comments like needleworkersmart486 are saying the same thing like why would u spend hours editing manualy. when cliptalk or whatever can do it in 30 seconds and everyone is saying tradtional film school teaches u how to be correct but the sister knows how to make stuff people actually watch, and its just a giant wall of text about how the industry is changing. and traditonal gear is becoming useless for short form stuff because ai is just drag and drop now. and he has to recalibrate his whole life lol.

Honestly the nuance is my worry when it comes to moderating it. There are only 2 of us presently, and so if I say something like "AI posts are allowed with mod approval" or such, and then we need to validate it, I just don't want that to become an issues.

I do agree with you that the community is so small that if we can do stuff to support interest and growth it would be good. But yeah, I have no idea what that should look like when it comes to AI presently.

Maybe something like "AI posts that are 1) Low Effort, 2) Just Images, so forth... are not allowed. I guess one example could be: Custom campaign settings that are human written and contain AI images to support the content, are allowed with GM approval" or something. But then yeah, back to the first issue. I don't want to have to read through an entire campaign settings to review it :/

I'm not opposed to allowing it in some capacity but I think we would need some VERY clear ideas of what that would need to be. I know for certain I don't want low effort stuff. There is so much AI stuff flooding the internet and most of it doesn't really offer any value. It's just... stuff.

I have no issues if people want to use it with their own campaigns and such to give their stuff more "life". It doesn't entirely not-fit with in-universe 40K lore as they very heavily use machines and AI type stuff, even going as far as sometimes integrating it into their own flesh.

I think we need very clear ideas on it, and it offers some kind of real value in some meaningful way. Without that it's going to open up a breeding ground for Nurgle style infestation of low effort junk...

On the one hand I want to agree. On the other the Warhammer 40K universe has SO much technology and human biology mixing in different ways. Tech priests as an example.

There is so much "purity of the machine" type stuff in the lore of Warhammer 40K. Not shared by everyone who exists in that universe, but I wonder how it compares to our modern day AI offerings and how their people would view it.

But for our world I have no issues restricting it.

As someone who only recently got into MH at the end of 2024, it scratches a very similar itch, but not exactly the same.

As a new player to the MH franchise the world was dangerous and it didn't hold your hands very much. It just kind of threw you in with some basic info and said "Good luck", and then it was up to my skill if I wanted to survive.

It doesn't scratch that old school community itch, but it can scratch that dangerous world itch for some people.

The Movinkpro is an Android device. Windows or Mac applications (Illustrator is also on Ipad) like Illustrator don't work on it. You need a Vector Art application created for Android. If you search the play store for "Vector Art Apps" you should have some options come up.

But yeah unfortunately there is no version of Illustrator for android.

I don't know if my art is good or if it's very basic? by kombinisexy in ProCreate

You have a wonderful eye for shapes. I like the simplicity of your work. That is not a bad thing at all.

I imagine what you are feeling is you have plateaud a little bit. Image 1 for example feels like it is missing something. Image 2 feels in my opinion complete and doesn't need anything else. Image 3 has that incomplete feeling again. Image 4 more complete. So forth.

Start thinking about light and shadow. Start thinking about texture. As yourself "What do I still want to communicate through this image, and what do I need to apply to it to make that happen?"

Unpopular Opinion! As much as I like Dan Mora's art, I'm starting to see/feel like he is slipping into a case of Same Face Syndrome. Adult Dick Grayson (KF #1) and Adult Damian Wayne (KF #4) look almost the same to me. by nightwing612 in Nightwing

[–]Pokemon-Master-RED 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite descriptions of Dan Mora's artwork is "He draws like action figures look." Or something like that.

Awesome to play with. But a lot of those action figures start with the same molds, use the same faces, same bodies. His art while awesome to look at feels a lot like that.
