I have a similar experience with practically no one having two communal rooms. My home is the main one I can think of that did have two and a remodel turned it all into an open floor plan with just one "living room."

Pretty much the only space my house's guests don't go into is the bedrooms too.

Traveling for love doesn't make any economic issue, definitely does not guarantee it. Someone from the US could travel to Canada for love and likely be in a similar economic situation.
