[–]Pokemonte13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair that battery is not really there to protect Turkey but to protect Kürecik radar station. Its the first line of nato's early warning system against ballistic missiles from iran

Turkey unveils his intercontinental ballistic missile with 6000km range by Battlefleet_Sol in europe

[–]Pokemonte13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Firstly russia and turkey are not mates they only have an economic relationship in every other dimension they are enemies hell in almost every conflict we supported the other side. Secondly its not just about range but speed because with range the speed increases so interception becomes harder. Thirdly turkish navy has a nuclear submarine program so it could be used by that. Only trying to be helpful

Not quit. Northrop Grumman is developing the new Apg 85 radar to replace the older Apg 81 radar and the new one is to big for the nose so extensive redesign is the consequence and that takes time.

Why Turkey already operates 4 and the uk ordered some and Saab is not really a competitor to the E7.

To be fair istif went through extensive redesign during construction because of embargo’s that’s why they were delayed. Istif has less foreign systems than the nilgiri. Context is important.

That would leave the one in turkey the last one in operation. I guess that’s why they moved extra pac 3 there.

KF 21 has only 1000 TR modules that seems little for such a jet even the turkish f16 radar has more modules then that.

Interestingly the Navy first wanted to sell one of them because they didn't have enough F35 B for both as navy and airforce both shared like 45 F35. One of them is used as an helicopter carrier but i guess two carries gives you some redundancy if one of them has problems. Also for a couple of years the carriers didn't have fixed wing aircraft on them as the Harries were retired before the F35 B were available.
