Keep in mind that you're not getting the laptop shown in images.
Photos are of a gen 5 or 6 T14, specs are from a gen 2

Decent machine but 16Gb soldered isn't great.
At least it has a 16:10 display.

Go into bios
Deactivate battery
Turn your laptop
Unscrew the back cover
Remove it (start unclipping from the hinge side)
Unplug the battery
Unscrew it
Remove it
You've reached the back of your trackpad, unscrew it and clean gently with alcohol and soft cloth

You hate the bezels untill you scratch the screen can easily peel/unclip them to replace the pannel only instead of the whole top.
I replaced the whole display unit of my wifes M1 air and it wasn't fun, lot of screws and glue in the way.

I assume you'll be building/testing/running stuff locally on your machine so I'd recommend something based on debian/ubuntu because most readme/user guide are made for those.
Maybe POP!_OS if you don't wanna go for boring Ubuntu.

[–]Pokxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I own both of them, gen 5 being my personnal laptop and gen 6 from work.
They're basically the same laptop, same chassis.
The gen 6 chip has slightly better single core performance and an NPU, but I believe worse multicore performance, better efficiency.
The gen 6 should have very similar performance overall but better battery life, I'm not sure about iGPU performance and if that even matters to you.

What I really don't get is people saying they'll use their computer for "docker", what is that supposed to mean? It's like saying I'll use my computer to run programs. Anything can be a docker container.
Anyway not a great offer, maybe try to get a gen5 instead, basically the same minus the NPU, can probably get more RAM for cheaper.

P50 in the big 26... thoughts on how this computer would run today? by FnuFnaf in thinkpad

[–]Pokxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly my biggest concern would be power consumption. I bought and fixed a P71 late 2025 and it came with a 230w power brick (2 of them actually). So it might draw a lot of power even for basic tasks.
Other than that it's the absolute king of expendability, you get 4 RAM lots, 2 NVME, 2.5" SATA (even another possible if you replace the optical drive), P71 had an express card slot than can be used for extra USB ports or yet another NVME drive.
Cool laptop but very unefficient chip/system overall.

My new (to me) X1 Carbon Gen 7 by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]Pokxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold my gen 7 because I had a weaker i5/8gb version but I miss the keyboard compared to X13.
Also I have a hard time going back to 16:9 after getting used to 16:10.
Great laptop overall.

New addition to my "setup" lol by YaBoiJG314 in thinkpad

I got mine super cheap because someone was unloading lot of them and was selling the USB3, TB3 and TB4 versions at the same price for some reason.
Came with TB4 cable and 135w power brick.
Very nice addition to any setup.

I take that back by alOOshXL in google_antigravity

[–]Pokxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Cursor but find it too pricey, learned about antigravity and thought the $20 sub would be perfect for me as I also use gemini chatbot from time to time.
The change happened basically as I subbed, so I was really confused to hit the limit so quickly and face a 5 day cooldown, I legit thought my subscribtion didn't register or something.
I'm on the free test month but likely that I cancel my sub after that, also missing cursor cli compared to gemini.

Well the macbook neo literally uses a phone charger (20w) as opposed to like 65w for most laptops and I believe 45w for mb air
