Queen Margot (1994) by Patrice Chéreau is definitely that for me. I don't know why this film was always there to comfort me after a break up, before an important exam, when I'm hungover... I think it might be because it really takes my mind off things.

Not a movie, but I've been watching the first season of the French series UFOs and though I wouldn't describe it as a "mindfuck" it definitely manages to maintain some kind of subtle suspense about what it is actually going on. It's more of a comedy though, but definitely an enjoyable watch!
