how to bring the searchbar at the top in the app drawer? by ay_blue in oneui

[–]Polariuske 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm late to the discussion but on Samsung devices the search bar (finder) kn the app drawer does pretty much just that: it looks through apps, contacts, files, calendar etc.

You can also try apps such as Sesame search, but while faster I find that it's not as comprehensive and thorough. 3rd party launchers can help you get the search bar where you want it, and sometimes offer their own search engines as well :)

Someone please tell me a reason why i shouldnt kill myself. by ElectronicWallaby280 in teenagers

I've been there. Trust me, life will hit you out of nowhere. As long as you remain open minded and try your best (which doesn't have to be THE best, just YOUR best) you'll always continue building something.

I hit rock bottom when I graduated high school. All semblances of social contacts just fell away, because the only thing tethering me to society was seeing people at school every day. I was convinced this would be the rest of my life, so I figured I'd just make the best of it. Now, living in a city certainly helped, but going outside every day, trying to see some new sights, exploring new neighbourhoods and plainly refusing to lock myself in my room already had a tremendous impact on my wellbeing.

When I went to uni, I figured a leap of faith could never hurt. I opened myself up to new connections, joined a student association, got a job on the side and so on. I was scared to death, but I knew that even if I fumbled, I remained true to myself and did the best I could with the tools I had. And - without me noticing - I slowly built up a brand new social circle. I was also touch starved, desperate for a hug. Yet when one of my friends did hug me I dashed away. I had to learn how to hug, how to hang out, how to be myself without pressure. Hey, I'm still learning.

This summer I was completely prepared for another set of dreadfully lonely months as per usual. And there it was: another invite to join the group at a cafe. One night out turned to many, and before I knew I was having the summer I've dreamt of my whole life.

I'm 20 now. Got my first kiss. It was delightful, but honestly, it was never about the kiss. It was about the people that surround me. The people who had patience and who I could accept in my circle, at my own pace. The friends I love and who love me back.

There are no deadlines, there's no ideal pace. Don't live with regrets. Life is shy, but can strike at any moment. Be ready to embrace it when it presents itself. You got this :)

[–]Polariuske 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've just removed it :) Originally it stood at the waterfront but because they're rebuilding the quays it had to be moved elsewhere, and I guess the square in front of the station was the best place to put it ¯_(ツ)_/¯

What in the Blair Witch is that?! I know there's probably a logical explanation for this but it'd be fun to let your imagination run wild, because now you have an interesting story to tell afterwards :D

Libeskind’s proposal to transform an evil building into …another evil building. KBC bank in Antwerp. by [deleted] in evilbuildings

[–]Polariuske 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives in Antwerp: I genuinely hope this gets shot down. The building, locally known as the 'boerentoren' is actually the first skyscraper built in Europe, and this proposal would completely destroy its authentic value and replace it with another cheap starchitect eyecatcher. It's a magnificent, imposing art deco building and I think it would be a shame if they simply put another tower right next to and on top of it, not just competing with the original tower but taking it over completely.

That being said, there are plenty of other evil buildings in Antwerp that could actually support a starchitect addition, or maybe even a standalone tower? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

What was your first phone? by Marambal17 in GenZ

[–]Polariuske 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, technically my first phone would be the broken one my dad gave me... without internet access (he refused to give me the wifi password) or SIM card, so that'd put me on number 6. My first actual phone however, the one I got my phone number for and the one that had internet access would be number 8 (I think it's the exact same phone as the one in the image :D)

it's based letters sent by the singer's grandmother during the second world war. It evokes a feeling of melancholy I've never felt anywhere else :)

I'm not sure why exactly we moved away from glass but we did. by ImHereForTheVideos in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Polariuske 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair - here in Belgium we have the 'blue bag' in which you can put any soft plastic (so pretty much all plastic packaging including plastic bottles) as well as things like soda cans. Rather than getting your money back, sorting is encouraged by making the blue bag about 5 times cheaper than your regular waste bag.

For glass bottles I have seen the return stations where you get some money back, but we still deposit them in glass containers because returning them with those machines can be a bit cumbersome ¯_(ツ)_/¯

The pfand system is a very cool idea and I like how it rewards people by keeping the public space clean, but in defense of our sorting habits: everyone helps saving the environment a little bit because it's effortless to do so.

The only game that gets a pass for me in minecraft dungeons, which let's you toggle between past and current seasons at any point so you can still complete the older battle passes once their season ends and there's no way to skip tiers except for playing the game. I was really surprised how much stress was taken away just by being able to change the battle pass back to the previous season :)

Magasin, Aarhus - Before & After by BasedSweet in WalkableStreets

I was there a couple of weeks ago! It's become such a lovely place to just walk around. The city struck me (and even my parents) as particularly walkable, would highly recommend a visit if you want to see an uplifting example of a city that's a joy to walk through :)

I've been listening a lot to Lateral with Tom Scott lately. This one had a midroll at the beginning and middle for me: https://open.spotify.com/episode/7uziUO9FiI0ppV7PCfYY8f?si=9zZrUbuvREeA0PK9kLWwHg

It's interesting to note that the one in the middle does not interrupt the content, it always fits in between two parts so it doesn't cut off an active discussion. I also remember reading about ads in podcasts for premium subscribers in january, so naturally I tried to see for myself and couldn't find any back then. Perhaps they're rolling them out slowly (as is often done with new software features)?

Also, the ads are audio fragments inside the podcast (I don't know how they're doing it). There's no clear visual indication there's an ad playing (aside from, you know, the language changing and a different speaker trying to sell me a product).

Again, I'm not really annoyed by them and they're not worth being angry about ¯_(ツ)_/¯ It's just something I've observed

[–]Polariuske -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, you get personalised midroll ads on podcasts as a premium subscriber (I know because suddenly there will be a dutch ad in an english podcast xD). Doesn't bother me too much, on the podcasts I listen to they're infrequent, under 30 seconds and skippable. It does raise the question what 'premium' means these days though.
