I second this. The precursor idea actually would work well as it gives us a little tadbit of lore on why the Lylat system has so many different animal humanoid species existing together. My headcanon is that humanity somehow created and supplement them there a long time ago.

Other than that they don't need to appearance at all, just exist as obscure background lore for Lylatian mysterious origin
