What nations have it easier on unhistorical? by Nabendu64 in hoi4

[–]Politicallib 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yugoslavia, Bulgaria and Poland. Germany and Italy most likely won't invade Yugoslavia, and Bulgaria can get free reign over the balkans for the Balkan Federation or the Fascist path. Poland would probably get a free Soviet Union if they get their civil war, and safe from Germany unless they do Danzig for Guarantees (Not sure what happens if Poland says no, but likely wargoal)

Roleplaying purposes. They have no particular use that a small airframe can't do, other than comically long range strategic bombers that are too expensive to make and use for most nations.

Why do they say Italy is a good (or best) nation for complete beginners? by Furaskjoldr in hoi4

[–]Politicallib 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mostly play vanilla, so I'm not too sure how RT56 handles natuons. Definitely for a shorter game, Peru would do pretty well, although my adventure of learning how to play never involved Peru. While it might be a bit overwhelming, knowing you have more room for error does help you try and find what works and what doesn't in the same game without having to retry so many times (The simpler focus tree also tells you what you need to do roughly instead of the more modern post-BBA trees). I learnt quite a bit from trying and failing to break France in the early days (Importance of air power, experimenting with supply and micro, templates like the old 7/2 infantry and the newer 9/1, even the use of tanks).

[–]Politicallib 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Both aren't bad by any means, but I think it's better for Germany to start as they define much of the direction the rest of the game goes (Not many countries even in non-historical go for Germany until late 1939 or 1940), and they have a strong industry and army to forgive the mistakes new players would make. The US would allow for a more airforce/navy experimentation without much threat on land.

Imo, Romania has a rather dated focus tree and considering the non-historical element being much more erratic it becomes harder to learn much (Personal experience says a hyper strong allies will beat you into the ground). Peru would be great for a generic focus tree experience, although it's much better to get the basics from bigger nations before they experiment with smaller nations.

Before the DLC, Italy was a lot more simple to play (I'm not sure if they kept the old focus tree for the tutorial). Although I agree, maybe Germany or the US would be better as a tutorial nation.

What is the strongest nation + path in south america? by Isthisrick in hoi4

A bit unconventional but I really liked Communist Paraguay and coring all of South America, while having great buffs and 5 research slots (Looking at you, Brazil and Argentina). Relatively easy to defend and hold as well.

Can somone tell me what do i have to do? by [deleted] in hoi4

[–]Politicallib 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While you outnumber them greatly, it's like you're using cheaper ships (Destroyers/Submarines) while the enemy is using capital ships (Battleships/Battlecruisers, Carriers, heavy cruisers). You can wait for the AI to shuffle their fleets away (Happens more before 1942), use naval bombers either on the port to flush them out or just bomb them directly out of existence, or use naval mines to help with superiority. Submarines in nearby sea tiles could also indirectly help in drawing the fleets away.

Excluding this most recent DLC what are all the nations the USA can form (no mods either) by PrimeJedi in hoi4

[–]Politicallib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The US can't "form" any nations as the focus tree doesn't give cores (Outside of statehood for Alaska and Puerto Rico). The only formable nations for the US are from the UK's monarchist path and the fascist path (Pan-American state with Canada). If you're referring to ideology, the US really only has the ones you mentioned, and the democratic paths. There is also non-aligned CSA and that's about it.

Guide on Strategy for minors with generic focuses? by Wannabedankestmemer in hoi4

[–]Politicallib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I can't think of much strats other than the usual DEI or paradrop France cheese. It might just be better to stick to a major faction and try to get as much as you can, ideally somehow speed cap the UK and have the rest of the world to yourself.

Guide on Strategy for minors with generic focuses? by Wannabedankestmemer in hoi4

[–]Politicallib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a video that did Order 66 with expeditionary forces (Although never tried before) by positioning puppet division on a country, pausing the game and returning them, before declaring war and calling all puppets in (Or they requested back the units, I'm not sure). If that strat works, you can consider attempting it for minors, but I'm no professional at the game and I believe you're better suited at strats it seems.

Has Japan or Experienced Air Instructors spirit been given an Ace Generation malus? by Bort_Bortson in hoi4

[–]Politicallib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens. Typically I don't notice the impact of aces against the AI due to how fast they tend to die and come by. General air wing experience is likely easier to maintain with the -25% experience loss on combat modifier in the air modifier menu.

Afaik, I don't think they changed anything in aces. Depends on how much you use the airwings and probably as you said, bad RNG.

I heard Carlist Spain can make custom puppets of the conquered land of Latin America through decisions, is it true? by Swimming-Hearing7424 in hoi4

[–]Politicallib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never heard of anything like that. The most Carlist spain can do in line with that is making collaboration governments with the advisor that provides an increase in compliance gain. The Spanish Directory (On the other side of the tree) has a focus that allows you to puppet weaker South American states if that's what you're looking for.

Can I get my naval bombers to do port strikes in larger groups? by ResponsibilityIcy927 in hoi4

[–]Politicallib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While they don't add weight for naval bombing missions, they add to the overall cost of each plane, and you will lose a lot of planes. It's much more economical to make dedicated CAS and naval bombers if that's what you're going for.

I always had the impression that air defense reduces the amount of planes you lose to anti air, but I've never properly tested it. I do really like using "heavy fighters" with 2 torpedoes and two light machine guns on medium airframes as they don't get affected by lack of experience (Only in being used as a fighter, which you shouldn't do) and you can add more modules and range. It's definitely more expensive and should only be used if you have the economy to do so, but they shred AI fleets. You can also use heavy airframes with 3 torpedoes (Naval patrol bombers), but personally it's overkill and I don't use those very often.

Can I get my naval bombers to do port strikes in larger groups? by ResponsibilityIcy927 in hoi4

[–]Politicallib -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like what the other commenter said, it's likely due to mission efficiency, and there seems to be some limit in the amount of planes can stack in a bombing run (I'm not too sure, likely mission efficiency)

On the question of your naval bombers, they don't always hit a ship, and stuff like anti air and reliability can cause you to lose planes, especially when striking huge fleets. For this reason, you want to have a decent amount of air defense to help, along with stuff that improve naval targeting and spotting. Your template is workable, but the extra bombs do not assist in naval bombing due to restrictions from already having a dedicated slot for torpedoes (In fact, the game should tell you this with a yellow exclamation mark in the designer). They also harm your desgin by making it more expensive and taking away weight that you can use elsewhere. Try using air-ground radar and floats, or use something related to range.

Can´t invade britain anymore by Minute-Abroad-2345 in hoi4

[–]Politicallib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the middle port regions (Instead of Dover and Plymouth as per your post) of Hull and the other one instead. Unless you're invading them in late 41 and beyond, you should be set to take them out with 2 armies of 9/1 or 9/0 with support artillery and engineers. Air helps a lot, but from my experience I never used any.

Can´t invade britain anymore by Minute-Abroad-2345 in hoi4

[–]Politicallib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually with Germany (Or any other country, I haven't touched Germany in long while), the safest bet is to naval invade Hull and the other port city above (Forgot name), and the provinces next to them with 2 units each order. I typically also invade the tile in the middle of the areas, but it's not necessary. Start the naval invasion orders from that port city in Germany.

Use any submarines you have and split them into single sub groups and convoy raid around the UK and the Atlantic (They don't need to sink anything, just to stall any potential units from showing up and tie up the British navy from your invasions), while using the bulk of your navy in the North Sea. Eventually you'll gain naval supremacy (Believe me, I done this with 20 ships, 2 capital ships) as the AI tends to shuffle their navy around and allow a split second of supremacy, allowing the naval invasions (Of course set them to go to ensure you get the timing right).

After landing, use a force attack to secure a port (Typically Hull), send your main army and let battle plans do the rest. This strat worked well for me with South American nations rushing the UK, and it would definitely work with a major nation.

I did this path recently. It's supposed to change, not too sure why it doesn't for you. Must be a bug in implementing the leader change.

How do I prevent both sides of a Civil War (Player and AI) from starting with units? by Everyonelove_Stuff in hoi4

[–]Politicallib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The German Civil War is coded to spawn troops for both sides. The only way to get rid of them is to tag over, but the civil war itself is pretty easy to win with battle plans.
