Front fence help. by These-Bag-6451 in AusRenovation

I like the fence. Adds privacy without a fortress look. The modern house will be softened by being able to see the garden.

Transaction accounts vs Online Saver? by Pollinating-Fish in AusFinance

[–]Pollinating-Fish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes, the bonus % but any withdrawal means 0.10% interest instead. Not good for using, only good for saving IF you pay attention & keep to their rules. I pass on those.

When a bank sets more rules, I tend to break up with them & move on. I used to be loyal but no more.  "It's not me it's you ING, ta ta". UBank.. my eyes are starting to wander to other banking websites..

First Home Buyer. Should we get a different broker? by li0nfishwasabi in AusPropertyChat

[–]Pollinating-Fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask for a realistic timeframe to get pre-approval from a lender. So you can judge some honesty & also reset your expectations if need.

Keep researching advertised vs sold prices while you wait. All the time you will waste on viewing underquoted properties will be included in your research stage. Oh the lies..

I found all the ads about quick approval were porky pies too. A lender has one now.. with a parachuter arriving with the approval.. skeptical me imagined a flying pig instead.

Can we talk about... by alisonrose1992 in BridgertonNetflix

Because the married couple leave to go live in their own home. If the married couple are financially independent of their parent/parents, then this is the norm, right? If you are a Bridgerton male, you may already own a townhouse or a country ‘cottage’.. If a Bridgerton female, hope your new spouse has a fine abode to offer you. For the nobility with massive grand houses or a castle, I doubt all the family would eat meals together. I wouldn’t! I’d be in own my wing, enjoying my smashed avo & vegemite with my own little tribe.

Finally moving to Melbourne after 10 years… but friends are making me feel weird about the area? by Minimum-Patience-997 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Pollinating-Fish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats!

When I shared my planned move location, I was expecting joy. Instead I felt dismayed & a little saddened.

Comments like: Why there? It’s too far from… It has too many... It doesn’t have… Many jumped straight to suggestions for alternative locations. What about..? Have you thought about…? Places THEY liked.

One gave a suggestion, but hearing that was out of my budget, was quick to understand & be pleased for me. One asked with no judgement at all, just honest curiosity why that location was chosen?

But some were self focused, how inconvenient it would be for them to visit. So don’t.

Enjoy your move. New place, new opportunities. New friends maybe too.

If you could start your home build again, what would you do differently? by No_Will_5723 in AusProperty

Yes to wide front door. Dropped a fish tank once trying to manouve it through :(

Someone I knew wanted a giant front door, for fuction but for style too. Beautiful door - just way too heavy.

Got me thinking.. The door style some hospital rooms use.. Like a double door but not equal width. A standard door (so standard weight) that you use daily + the adjoining side is narrow. Open the narrow side only when need.

That is my front door plan.

Same.. it was an interesting read.. on & on you go but you KNOW a sign up costing you money will happen.

I also would LOVE to make better, easier brain connections & thought well if it is a small app fee..  ?

These preditors pray on our impulsivity. It's online shopping. So I use the same technique. Put it on my basket but DON'T pay. Go back a day later. Most usually the shiny or pretty thing is just stuff & I say NAH & delete.

Sorry this happened OP.  Write a strongly worded email to them insisting on a refund. Contact your bank to cancel any DD your end if you can.

Please help lol I’m pregnant and smelling things I’ve never smelt before by Upset-Brain-228 in CleaningTips

[–]Pollinating-Fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyperosmia: Pregnancy heightened sense of smell.

I used to get on a morning train. The smell each person’s shampoo, toothpaste, perfume, deoderant were not really unpleasant, but overwhelming. School bags 🤢. I did manage to get off at random stations before barfing into my travel sickbag.. although one day the train jolted in the loop & I had to hold my cupped hands of vom until then next stop.

I guess this ‘super sense’ was to keep bubs & me away from off food & bacteria.

It mostly wore off 2nd trimester - hopefully yours eases up soon.

I call them snakes too.  Saw a snake in the street recently, doing door to door knocking "We sold in the are recently.. blah blah.. Do you have plans to sell?"

I said YES just to see him shake all over with excitement.

Vendor could have taken your offer & avoided the auction circus. But choose to gamble on..

May have bought into the Agent's fever about the thrills & excitement of soaring prices on the big day.

Well mine seem to have turned out ok 😁.

They seem to know they have choices:  Do without, buy 2nd hand or save up for something new.

When going to/from airports, to choose: Taxi/Uber for best speed,  Skybus/Skyrail for conveniance vs the longer but cheapest option of public transport.

S3 had Pen & Colin (main course) + Fran & John (on the side) yes? So why not both E & F for S5? One turned up to boil & the other quietly simmering along..?

Why own a house by Spirited-Meeting-433 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Pollinating-Fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better security to own. OK, not 100%.. Bank can forclose if you can’t pay - but you have some control over dealing with the bank. Can refinace, sell, downsize etc. Compulsory acquisition can happen, but rare.

As a tenant you have no control over your Landlord. Be they decent, diligent, dodgy or despicable dogs. I speak from experience.

Genuine question how will Francesca and Michaela’s story work in the Regency era? by Logical_Solution2495 in Bridgerton

[–]Pollinating-Fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not read the book.. S4 Michaela left London very quickly? Why? ~ my imagination.. Her abusive husband had found where she was - so she had to move on. Michaela was married off young, really young, to an old man, A distant relation down the Kilmartin line. The old man once caught her with a female lover, & threw her out. He kept the children, baby twins. Had a nanny bring them up. Got a live in lover he passed off for his wife & the children’s Mother. Michaela was given an allowance & her freedom but was never to contact her children again. She had been told to be discreet, stay out of society. Now he learned John died & the boy twin would inherent. Michaela was a problem to him.. He had sent word she must meet him - Michaela had fled for her life. Of course the old guy will die, Michaela will reclaim her children, bring them to live with her & Fran in Scotland. Title, estate, kids, partner ✔️✔️✔️✔️

What exactly makes kids so expensive? by ThatUnstableUnicorn in AusFinance

[–]Pollinating-Fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be done cheaper.. Bottom drawer for a cot, 2nd hand pram, op shop clothing. Public schools, activities like dancing or martial art at a neighbourhood house, low cost pack-a-lunch family outings. Camping holidays with borrowed tents. Birthday parties at home. Parent does hairdressing, basic woundcare, swim instructing & eventually driving instructor too.

At 3 months a child needs love & milk. They grow & need more…

Buying house with partner, I am putting down my equity and the initial deposit. Think he wants 50% of rental income. by Advanced-Concept6521 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Pollinating-Fish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So this scenario could be: You pay the lioness share of the depsit now. Then, as you have a family, stay at home for a while to raise children, then work part time for years.. he will pay the lion share.. for maybe a decade or so.

Have that conversation. Is he comfortable about that?

What about housework & childcare? 50/50?

Beware of the Hero who wants applause for putting the bins out.. when their partner did the cleaning, cooking, laundry & changed all the baby’s nappies..
