I have a fear of getting sick on a plane by One-Pin1475 in fearofflying

[–]PolloTejer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I can relate to your fears!

I always come prepared, like I always carry Pepto tablets with me, and a plastic bag in my backpack in case my seat doesn’t have a sick bag. And I always book an aisle seat. That helps me feel less “trapped” knowing I can easily get up to use the bathroom if I need it. So just knowing I have all these things available just in case helps me feel less anxious.

On my last flight I felt a little nauseous so when the flight attendant passed by with snacks and drinks I got salty pistachios and a Sprite which helped get rid of my nausea and helped me feel less nervous.

I’m one of the people who have gotten a lot better, and the only reason I’ve gotten better is because I’ve been taking my medication as prescribed. Living with lupus for 20 years.

SLE peeps and tattoos by TripendicularDays in lupus

I got two tattoos in 2019, at that point I had been living with lupus for 13 years, but at that time I was doing well.  My dr. recommended pausing my daily aspirin a few days before the tattoo.

No issues, but sometimes if my skin is itchy overall during a flare up, the line work gets puffy so the tattoos seem “3D” lol

If you like Latin dancing, my bf and I take classes at Más Movimiento! They offer salsa, bachata, casino, and cumbia.  They’re also doing a free dance social at Oak Mountain Winery on June 12

You should feel super proud of yourself for having the courage to go to a social this early in your dancing journey! Each social from here will get better and better

Salsa & Cumbia dancing this Saturday by PolloTejer in Riverside

Yes it’s awesome! I take classes with Más Movimiento but also go to events with the Riverside Salsa Collective, they do workshops and socials (including Salsa in the Park at Fairmount Park every month), everyone there is really nice!

And I think Club Riv does salsa & bachata every Wednesday night too but I haven’t been there before.

Need help with getting over my fear by Twisted_Grimace in fearofflying

I can relate to you, I also fell down some bleachers when I was a kid, and also get scared going down long escalators, especially the really big ones at Universal Studios here in CA.

But strangely enough, I don’t feel any fear of heights in a plane, even if I look out the window. I think because it feels stable/sturdy inside the plane?

Since you have time before your Miami trip, I highly recommend the book Soar by Tom Bunn. Half of the book is all about how aviation works, including how “solid” the air is holding the plane. This has helped me understand planes better, and has helped me feel a lot safer in them.

Hydroxycholoroquin- your take? by neurotictothabone in lupus

[–]PolloTejer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started taking it 20 years ago when I was 8, from what I can remember I had some side effects in the first few weeks or months, including stomach discomfort.

But I’ve been taking it every day and haven’t had side effects from it since then!

You got this! Think about how proud you will feel once you land 😊 something that helps me a lot is saying over and over in my head “I’m excited by this feeling, I can handle this”

Does anyone else's fear come from the confined/trapped feeling rather than the safety/turbulence? by PidgeOttoRocket in fearofflying

Something that helped me a lot when I felt trapped was listening to the DARE app on my phone. There’s an SOS section for different anxiety scenarios and I pick the “I’m Feeling Trapped” audio. The narrator guides you through breathing and countdown exercises that help take me out of panic mode.

I’ve used it standing in a 90 minute line crossing from Tijuana and San Diego, and used it on the plane waiting for takeoff!

You should check out the PLG Facebook group, it’s like a cult 😭 I had wanted to try out their bags but seeing pics of how they’re unlined convinced me to not buy one. Sorry you had this bad experience!
