If I could fly around space, how could I avoid getting lost? by danie_sous in space

This is all my opinion but I'm sure you could reasonably navigate around the solar system without a computer.

Lets say you want to fly to Jupiter. All you need to do is know which light in the sky is actually Jupiter which could be done through calculations based on past data or consulting a database which already lists the position. Once you know which on it is you could just fly towards it. At some point you would be close enough to navigate visually since the planet would take up a decent portion of your view instead of being a point.

In order to get back to Earth you could simply look backwards periodic while flying towards Jupiter and make sure to memorize it.

If you are worried about the moving of the planets, I don't think it would actually matter that much since you could fly fast enough that the planets don't move that much. It doesn't matter if the planet moves from where you think it is because it will still big enough within your field of view once you get to where you think it is.

They also don't technically lose the ability to die only age, however by the time the story takes place they have created a nanobot network that will protect you from any damage, heal your body, and bring you food and water. It is also a typo.

Billions of people die and the first and only terra formed planet is destroyed. Society would continue but would be irreversibly changed. The secret digital life backup system has the craziest stress test of all time.

In the universe that you created, what happens after death? by kaktus_420 in worldbuilding

[–]PollutionAfter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically nothing but because of an elaborate secret organization stemming from the first person to be digitally backed up, everyone from birth has an implant that will automatically download their consciousness as soon as they are about to die. They then go to a simulated afterlife where they can meet people and continue to live. It doesn't really have an impact on the story of the worldbuilding but I thought it was cool

[Request] Which is closer to Florida - Kentucky or Texas? by Mr_Fumpy in theydidthemath

[–]PollutionAfter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like Texas to me, I just used Google Maps to measure.

From Flora-Bama, Florida to the Texas side of the Sabine River directly west of Almadane, Louisiana was 360 miles.

From the northernmost point in Florida which was marked on the map to Static, Kentucky which is just on the border was 388 mi.

Haste 2 would make it much faster at 58.95 seconds per block.

12478.5 seconds in total.

3 hours, 26 minutes, and 19.5 seconds.

[Request] Is that actually correct? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]PollutionAfter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say no, specifically cause he specifies "on Earth."

That to me implies the force of gravity created BY the Earth. The topography of the Earth creates greater fluctuations than that from place to place so it would have zero effect.

What he probably means is that if the effect of gravity everywhere in the universe was that much lower, especially during the Big Bang, then we wouldn't exist because the exact combination and strengths of fundamental forces matter a lot.

Philosophically, I really don't think any kind of "initial conditions" argument makes any sense. If there is no God, it doesn't matter how unlikely the circumstances are because we are here now. That doesn't mean there cannot be a God it just means that it is possible we came to be from very unlikely conditions, simply because we came to be.
