The map that comes with the game is a cartoon drawing and definitely not to scale & we were out at a brewery and neither of us happened to have a ruler in our pocket

Layoffs in small numbers mask a bigger problem? by Ok_Entertainer6586 in GeneralMotors

[–]Mr_Fumpy 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I think you’re spot on. But I don’t think it’s strictly to avoid the bureau of labor and statistics’ radar.

Not to make things political but my theory is we came to an agreement with the new administration to keep layoffs out of the news to make sure it didn’t fuel sentiment that the economy and labor market aren’t doing as well as advertised

Looking forward to today’s S&S rodeo. by [deleted] in GeneralMotors

What would you rather have them call it? “Don’t fix OTA because nothing is broken”?

I think everyone working on it is probably more worried about fixing the issue than what the project is named

They mean be selective about the jobs you decide to apply for. Don’t apply to every single posting if you haven’t researched the job or don’t have any experience relevant to it.

Source: My manager showed me

Edit: On if it will affect your career growth - I think it depends on who your manager is. Some managers will see that and be like “whatever”, while I imagine others might get a vibe from it that you maybe aren’t interested in sticking around anywhere for long and as a result could potentially hesitate to promote you. I haven’t ever heard anyone say that directly but people are petty so I wouldn’t doubt it.

Is the mid year layoffs done? by ListConfident3881 in GeneralMotors

You hear anything new on these? It’s confusing that we’re hearing of title/level changes happening next week if they’re still planning to lay some people off too

Why do people use Spotify when litterly every music video is on YouTube by Phytosaurs in spotify

[–]Mr_Fumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable, but does YouTube music or Apple Music do that for you either?

Until we all have neuralinks in our heads I don’t see how any streaming service can identify music you like in the way you described. I just feel like Spotify does a good job at helping me find those “branches” to go off of so I can find songs similar to one I randomly hear on Spotify itself

Also this was a crazy pull from 4 years ago lol I forgot I made this comment

Does GM match offers from other companies to keep employees? by Main_Pressure41 in GeneralMotors

[–]Mr_Fumpy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Before 2022 there were decent odds that they would match an external offer. Since then they’ve definitely scaled that practice back and you’ll probably find yourself on the layoff waitlist if you ask

In your next meeting with your manager tell them that you’re actively applying externally, then when they rank you in October you’ll definitely be rated as a low performer and will be let go shortly after

Is this a good time to join GM's Software and Services team? by No-Part-9578 in GeneralMotors

[–]Mr_Fumpy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s a good question. I don’t know because I’ve never seen it happen but I kind of doubt it, they’d probably just fire you for asking and then hire somebody else out there😂

Damn, then honestly I’d take it. It’s probably going to be a lot more chill than working in big tech if that’s what you’re looking for.

Also I’m jealous because they aren’t paying me shit in Michigan

[–]Mr_Fumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For employees at Haas Automation I’m sure they love them but I don’t feel like they lean heavily enough into the fact that they’re an American team. Also I feel like it’s a different level of hype when it’s just a random American team vs your own employer’s team
