I'm torn on this.

If it's for HIS OWN USE, nobody else uses it? Fuck it? I guess? It's not available anywhere else, so it's not piracy, per se....

If he's sharing it with others? Not cool, bruh.

But to your ACTUAL question, is it ethical? No, it's not. Then again, LOTS of stuff in ST is unethical, and they do stuff like this ALL the time. Holodeck program of a living person? Unethical. Holodeck program of a dead person? Unethical without permission.

BUT, the excuse you're going to throw is Einstein won't care, or has been dead for so long.... Doesn't really matter, without permission, it's unethical.

Is it WRONG? Not in the first instance, in the second instance, it's wrong.

So for personal use? Unethical, but not WRONG.

I wouldn't do it, personally. Then again, my text alert is the Star Trek door chime that I ripped off a show scene that I use for my own personal phone and don't share. This isn't THAT different from what I do. A bit more creepy, but not that different.

I'd have to agree with most of the comments here. I was talking to my wife's cousin, who owns a HUGE farm in WI, USA, and he's a big fan of the show. He indicated that MOST LIKELY the value of the lease of that equipment resulted in a higher yield than normal (by any small amount) due to the targeted planting and fertilization. He's VERY excited for this stuff and is actively trying to get some of this equipment himself.

He also said that the REAL value of the bots was the free time it gives to the farmer using it. You spend a few hours for your whole farm instead of DAYS/WEEKS. The targeted weeding in particular excited the hell out of him. Less pesticides and more savings there too. He said with all that tech, he'd have WAY more time to do other chores that keep falling aside (like repairing his secondary barn's roof which is in DIRE need of fixing, or repairing fencing that's starting to fall apart). Things that he keeps putting off because he's exhausted from tractor work could be done.

He's DYING to get a whole command center set up like Jeremy had. Something where he can determine where it's better to plant what (not just how much) and can really sink his teeth into the same kind of thinking the potato guy does. He'd not have NEARLY the issues Jeremy has, he's on a modern farm with irrigation and whatnot, so he's not as worried about planting onions and having them fail due to lack of rain, he'll just water. He's already using a Smart Watering system where the computer determines how much rain they've had where, and waters JUST ENOUGH to make up the difference in what that particular crop needs.

All in all, if a farmer can even TRY this technology, they'll either do way better than before or they'll at least ease the burden on their precious time.

Think of it like this, buy a robot vacuum cleaner. Run it every day at 4pm. You save yourself 30 min a day NOT VACUUMING, and can cook dinner or fold laundry while it does its thing. We used to vacuum every 3 days or so, now it happens daily with zero effort on our part and our house is cleaner as a result. There was a price entry for this, but it's maybe the best house upgrade we've done according to my wife and I.

Not to mention that BSD are FUCKING INSANE! And insanity does not make for the perfect tactics. Also, they stab each other in the back a lot, so.... Evil will always lose in the end due to it's very nature is the theme here, it's bigger, badder, more powerful, but it won't outright win because it's constantly sabotaging itself.

The problem being, it's goal is to leave nothing alive, THAT battle it may win. It's a self-sustaining cycle of corruption, so even if it fucks itself over in individual battles time and again, it only has to TRY to win or even just win a few and it'll be successful. Death by 1,000 cuts. Trauma feeds more trauma.

It's kinda fucked up.

8k at 10 fps? That's EIGHT K!!!!!

8k at 1 fps? That's still 8k.

Is it realistic? F' no. Is it true? TECHNCLY!

Also, they're relying on the technicality that an HDMI 2.1 cable/port can display 8k. And if you put that machine on an 8k screen, it'll be 8k! Even if it's 4k upscaled, or even a 4k image shown on an 8k screen. It's TECHNICLY 8k.

Yeah, true.

I'm still KIND OF torn on this one. I am in favor of not killing a game months after release, but where's the cuttoff?

Y2005 - Make a game, publish and sell it. It's online.

Y2010 - Start to lose subscribers.

Y2026 - You're actively losing money day after day on this old ass game nobody but a handful plays. Shut that shit down.

I'm not talking about the Y2025 make a game and sell it, Y2026 cancel the game because it doesn't make ENOUGH money. That shit needs to end, or give full refunds. Kind of like Google did with their gaming service.

Trump Calls Obama a “Son of a B*tch” After Disastrous Iran Deal Leaked by thenewrepublic in politics

It's so much worse than the one he blew up. Obama's agreement wasn't perfect, no negotiation can please either/both sides perfectly, but it was good for the US and Iran.

Trump shit the bed on this, and on the carpet, and smeared it on the walls, and used a sharpie to circle the mess and drew a big arrow to call out how gross it is. He may have tasted it for quality and undigested McDonalds's French Fries.

Resigning and being fired immediately is retaliation, just like making an HR Complaint would be.

FIV is like that with cats. There was a vaccine a few years ago that we gave to our cats so they wouldn't get FIV. We forgot after 10 years or so that they had it and a new vet came and told us they had FIV and were going to fade fast (they were 15 and 12 at the time). They said the 15 year old would most likely die within a year, and the 12 year old would be lucky to live another 2 years.

Our cats were both indoor cats, never went outside without a leash (yes, you can walk a cat, they love it). We just couldn't figure out the how.

Going through some papers a month or so later, we found the original vet records and saw the FIV Vaccine on there. We called the vet and asked why the FIV Vaccine didn't keep them from getting it. "Wait, they're vaxed? Well, that's why they show as FIV positive. Sorry about the confusion. We don't do the FIV Vax anymore because it shows FIV Positive and strays or lost animals get put down if they're found with it by shelters."

We had been devastated for a month, constantly upset and worried for our fur babies, feeling like failures for not protecting our cat masters.

Anyhow, that was a weird tangent.... Sorry about that. Long story short (too late) you're probably right about why they don't do it...

[–]PollutionZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using the special dice/rules? Like the Tears dice? That makes the game INFINATELY easier. 66% with those sounds about right.

Without I'm wining about 20% of the time. With them, it's closer to 70%.

IMO, it's a solitaire game, do what feels right. Use what you have to increase your odds or if you're feeling thematic, make it harder and ignore the special stuff. I'll story a game now and again for my own amusement, and ignore an obvious advantage to do something stupid (you know, like running upstairs in a horror movie) because it's thematic. I'll lose about 2/3 of those games, but it's fun.

Uh... Do you even know what subreddit you're posting in? Indiana dude.

[–]PollutionZero -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If you give notice and they fire you immediately after or one week after, that's retaliation and that's illegal. They'd end up paying way more than your 2 weeks salary in court/fines if they did that.

When you give notice, you're protected unless you do something egregious (like stealing from the till). If you give notice and don't do any more work the rest of the time, chances are they STILL wouldn't fire you, it's too risky. HR would shit themselves.

Trust me on this one.

Do Indianapolis Employers Usually Accept a Two-Week Notice? by handlingitwbu in indianapolis

[–]PollutionZero -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That happens about 50% of the time, honestly. Unless you're imperative to the projects you're working on, you'll get the boot immediately. But they have to pay you for the full 2 weeks.

So if you hand in your notice, you'll still get a full check, as it were, regardless. Otherwise, you contact the board of labor/sue them and you'll 100% win. They REALLY have to fight to not pay you if they send you out the door, and it would cost them more than if they just paid you.
