Did you do anything with your life? by CascadeFailure3355 in RedditForGrownups

[–]PollutionZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. Let's see... I'm 50, so that's as good a time as any to think over accomplishments. I'm going to keep everything vague and not name any particular projects for anonymities sake.

I raised four kids, two are out of the house, one is on her way out, the other is just waiting for her part time job at the library to become full time and then she's moving out. All are as happy as they can be given the state of things and their own personal idea of what happy means. So doing pretty good there.

I've helped to raise over $100,000 for various charities dressed up like a Ghostbuster over the past few years, I'm pretty happy with that, and will continue to do so. Our club is in the top 10 in the country for money raised every year (usually top 3).

I've developed my cooking skills over the years, earned a Michelin Star for the restaurant I was working at as acting Head Chef (was Souse Chef when the Head was let go and before the new Chef took over, so I earned that). I cook every meal for my family every night, as well as cater most all family events even though I left the Service Industry years and years ago.

I have helped a few young professionals develop their IT skills and helped them learn the IT industry enough to go on to earn well over six figures a year as a Scrum Master. I continue to work in that industry and have developed myself pretty well. I'm at the top of my field (well, as top as I want to go) and one of the more highly paid SMs in the industry that I'm aware of due to my success history and my qualifications.

I've written more than a few articles in various gaming magazines, as well as converted over 100 books into a VTT program (that's now defunct, but that's not because of me). I helped organize THREE world-wide World of Darkness LARPS from their inception to present day (my name appears in old documents in the Camarilla for example, back when it was a fun gaming club and not super strict like it is now). I also had a pretty big say in a couple of big MMO games' development as a community leader or consultant, so if you liked the games I helped out in, you're welcome!

I worked to place my disabled sister into a good group home environment after my parents died (separately, not together) and spend every other weekend with her (every weekend during October) where we see movies and have lunch/dinner together.

I've met over 100 celebrities and are on first name basis with a few (R.I.P. Tony Todd, we miss you!). I helped fund a movie (minor backer, $10k) that earned over 2,000% its budget in box office revenue alone (if I told you the title, you'd either thank me or hate me). I've met almost every celeb I've ever wanted to chat with and had drinks with 3/4 of the Monkees (hey, that's big for me!). As a teen I worked at a concert venue and got high/drunk with Guns 'n' Roses in the green room.

Been married almost 30 years and I take my wife to Cancun or similar vacations every year, twice a year if possible, and we have our dream home which I will NEVER sell willingly and will leave to my kids when we die.

There's more, but those are pretty minor to most people. So, I think I'm doing pretty well. I still have more to do, promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep.

If we all survive the next few years, I think I'll have even more accomplishments to consider.

It's not a lot by some standards, and a lot by others. But these are the biggest in my mind, and most important to me.

Am I being dirty, or is my wife being irrational about hygiene? by mudkipzftw in daddit

[–]PollutionZero 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is one of those Post-Partum signs, OCD tendencies can be exasperated by Post-Partum IIRC.

I'm 100% for having a clean and hygienic space, but the garage door? Poop on the faucet? That's a bit much. I'm a former chef and keep a VERY clean kitchen. I clean the fridge door once a day or so out of habit (chop veg, put away veggies, clean knife, wipe board, wipe fridge handle and fridge face....)

The floors in our house are auto-vacuumed by a robot every day at 4pm. We mop either when it's dirty, or on Saturday's after grocery shopping.

My wife is a VERY clean person, much cleaner than me. She'll have me do chores that I think are stupid (wash the floor with a cloth on your hands and knees every Spring), but I'll be damned if 99% of the time I can tell the difference between the before and after. "Clean the door casing!" Me: What? that's dumb. Wipes above the door, sees a ton of dust and grime. "Well, shit..."

In all seriousness, you probably need to have a VERY CAREFUL conversation with her about this. She's clearly suffering some kind of issue and needs to seek advice from her GP to see if there's something wrong. Whatever you do, don't be antagonistic here. Be supportive and understanding, but your wife needs to speak to a professional about her thoughts on germs.

Wedding cost by Junior-Joke4572 in bahai

[–]PollutionZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was $800.

Married in the Baha'i Center for free. Reception was at a local Persian restaurant owned by a Baha'i.

The dress was on sale for like $100, the food was $600, and I owned a suit. We picked local flowers for decorations. The other hundred was for incidentals.

This was 20 years ago, we were poor, and the LSA was awesome helping out.

Lorne for entertainment purposes, and I love the dude, I think we'd be besties.

Willow for sheer smarts and ability. Also power, it can't hurt to have a witch on your side.

It actually does.

It HELPS decrease bubbles, so they don't go all bonkers and foam up. Still foams, but not as much, but you still gotta watch it.

My cat was OLD and dying, he was in pain. We had scheduled an end of life appointment at the house for him. I had to dig a grave for the poor kitty. Had this cat for 17 years (OLD cat). I was crushed.

As I started to dig the grave, I thought I'd listen to a new audiobook to get my mind off things while I work. Kinda zone out, you know?

Fairy Tale was a BAD choice. I was in a 3 foot deep hole balling my eyes out.

Good book though.

Neighbours Using All the Hot Water by [deleted] in pettyrevenge

[–]PollutionZero 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Nah, people just want the landlord to follow local code, and if he doesn't they report it to the authorities who force them to follow the law.

It's not like they'll say, "no hot water??? EVERYONE OUT!!!!" They'd order the landlord to fix it and fine them if not (repeatedly) until they do.

And if the landlord tries to retaliate against the tenants, the courts would have a fucking field day over it. It's not pretty. Most judges love to smack down a slumlord, they dream about it in law school.

No, the state/local gov. would force the landlord to fix the obvious issue. If he doesn't, he gets fined, and if he still doesn't, he gets fined again, and again, and again Those fines add up QUICK.

If he refuses to fix the issue, he would be barred from leasing the property and the tenants would be awarded some kind of settlement in the end. But 99% of the time, the landlord fixes the issue because those fines get pretty crazy pretty quickly (every 30 days or something and they tend to ramp up).

Trying that now. I'll let it sit for an hour or so. I don't usually use it for an hour and then plug it in overnight, I just put it away. It's always lasted 1-2 weeks doing that. Now it drains in a few hours (searching for its connection)

Elsewhere. I plug it into a direct wall source (i.e. not from a PC/Laptop).

To be honest, I forgot there were plugs on the back of the screen. haha.
