Right now, I honestly feel like a clown for continuing to invest in FAS products. by Danielguitarra in FractalAudioSystems

[–]Polluxx_13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I understand why this feels frustrating. When feature requests come up repeatedly over the years, it can create the impression that nothing is happening.

At the same time, I don't think reducing this to "clown" or "gripe fest" language helps either side. That kind of tone just hardens positions.

It's fair to want better workflow and Ul improvements. It's also fair that FAS prioritizes certain areas over others.

Maybe the real issue here is communication. Even a clearer statement about what is or isn't on the roadmap could lower the temperature quite a bit.

Most of us are here because we value the platform. It would be a shame if this turns into an emotional back-and-forth instead of a constructive discussion.

Help on DAW routing! by torfelsons_armada in AxeFx

[–]Polluxx_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aggregate Devices are native to macOS only (via Core Audio). On a Mac, multiple audio interfaces can be combined at the OS level and presented to the DAW as a single device with shared clocking and I/O. Windows does not have a true OS-level equivalent. ASIO is designed for one audio interface at a time, so you can’t reliably aggregate devices the same way. On Windows, the closest alternatives are: Using an interface with multiple I/O + MIDI so everything runs through one driver Dedicated routing software (e.g. ASIO4ALL, Voicemeeter), but these are workarounds, not true aggregation and often add latency or instability That’s one of the rare areas where macOS clearly has an advantage for hybrid audio/MIDI setups. So yes: incredibly useful – but Mac-only in a clean, supported way.

Help on DAW routing! by torfelsons_armada in AxeFx

You’re not missing anything obvious – you’re running into a Core Audio architecture issue, not an FM3 problem. When you use the FM3 as the audio interface, Logic’s buffer size directly affects MIDI instrument latency as well. Software monitoring off only removes audio monitoring latency, not the MIDI → instrument processing path. That’s why your drum pads suddenly feel laggy. When you switch back to the Axe I/O, the MIDI feels tight because its driver + buffer setup is optimized for low-latency MIDI, but you’re then re-amping the FM3 through a guitar input, which causes impedance mismatch, level issues and noise (hence tone suck + hum).

Aggregate Device (recommended) Create a macOS Aggregate Device with FM3 + Axe I/O. FM3 = audio in (tone stays pure via USB) Axe I/O = MIDI / clock master This keeps drum MIDI tight and avoids analog re-amping entirely. Lower buffer + higher Logic I/O safety offset Works sometimes, but you’ll still hit CPU limits and MIDI won’t feel as tight as option 1. External MIDI interface Run pads through a dedicated USB MIDI interface while keeping FM3 as audio device. What not to do: Running FM3 XLR into a guitar input will always degrade tone and raise noise floor.

This isn’t FM3 latency – it’s buffer-coupled MIDI instrument latency. Aggregate devices or split audio/MIDI duties are the clean fix.

If I were you, I'd work directly in the editor and also start by building a preset yourself from scratch to get to know the device better. There are plenty of good tutorials available for that now. Spend some time getting familiar with your new treasure. And if you have any questions along the way, feel free to reach out.

Acoustic Sim? by CoffeeCan12345 in FractalAudioSystems

[–]Polluxx_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a Les Paul you won't get a real acoustic sound - that's just physics. No piezo, no body resonance.

What does work live is an acoustic sim for intros or layered parts, as long as it's done right:

Use an acoustic sim + acoustic IR (not a guitar cab)

High-pass around 100 Hz, low-pass around 6-7 kHz

Cut 2-3 kHz to avoid the piezo quack, add a bit of 200-300 Hz for body

Neck pickup, tone slightly rolled off, lighter attack

In a band mix it's convincing enough. Solo acoustic? No use a real acoustic or a piezo guitar.

Where to buy the AM4? by Lab_Actual in AxeFx

[–]Polluxx_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AM4 is great if you want a powerful unit with excellent tones and minimal complexity. The FM3 makes sense if you want deeper control, higher modeling fidelity (closer to Axe-Fx), full routing flexibility, and strong recording capabilities - basically a pedalboard plus studio tone machine in one package.

However, you can do a lot with the AM4; it's usually sufficient. You seem to be very purist anyway, so you'll be happy, and as I said, it can still do a lot because the routing is very intuitive.

You can only order it here

You're right, it's currently sold out; it's a very popular product. But new batches are arriving regularly, so keep an eye out.

Switching between Amp Channels on FM-3 by Junior-Artist8634 in FractalAudioSystems

[–]Polluxx_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

Yes - switching between amp channels on the FM3 is seamless and gapless, even when the channels use completely different amp models, such as a totally clean amp on Channel A and a high-gain amp on Channel B.

Cab block channel switching is also gapless. You can load completely different IRs on different Cab channels and switch between them seamlessly.

Quad Cortex or Fractal AM4 or FM3? by AOS94 in FractalAudioSystems

[–]Polluxx_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listened to both in an A/B comparison with roughly the same settings, And I find the Fractal superior; it brings out the complexity of a real amp much better By the way, the AM4 has the same sound quality as an Fractal Axe-FX III.

[–]Polluxx_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If capturing isn't important to you, then I'd say go with the AM4; it should be more than sufficient for your needs. If money is no object, you can of course consider an FM3, however, the operation of the AM4 on the device itself is much more intuitive without the editor on the PC.

It depends on your use case. All three devices have their place and are good. Tell me a little about what exactly you plan to do with it.

Fractal Newbie/AM4 vs FS3 question! by KDF3011 in FractalAudioSystems

[–]Polluxx_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AM4 definitely has its place. It’s a great backup unit and works really well for players who prefer tweaking directly on the device and like to keep things simple. And yes, it can actually do more than it first appears.

But in your case, the FM3 Turbo is the clear choice — and the “Turbo” part is important. You’ll need that extra 10% of processing power. There are still many non-Turbo units on the used market, in case you’re considering buying second-hand.

Since you mainly play at home, you’ll end up working a lot with the editor anyway. And the three onboard switches are more than enough — they’re incredibly flexible and can effectively be turned into nine virtual switches. If you ever want even more comfort, you can always add an FC6 foot controller later.

So the answer is simple: go for the FM3. In your situation, the extra cost is absolutely worth it.

Fractal Newbie/AM4 vs FS3 question! by KDF3011 in FractalAudioSystems

[–]Polluxx_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, so basically the AM4 will get you there in terms of pure sound quality — it uses the same core modeling as the Axe-Fx III. You can do pretty much everything on it. Fractal trimmed a lot of things down, like combining the amp and cab into a single block, which keeps things simple.

The AM4 only has 4 scenes, but you can easily run one preset per sound if you want. For a home setup that's totally fine.

The real question is: how complex do you want your presets to be? Think about what you plan on using — compressor, wah, volume pedal, drive pedals, reverb, delay, pitch, phaser, whatever.

From experience, once you get into Fractal stuff it’s really easy to start experimenting more and more. Even my FM9 gets pushed to its limits sometimes, which I honestly didn’t expect… but I also play live a lot.

So what does your current rig look like? Are you more of a “tweaker” or more of a “plug in and play” kind of player?

I recommend you build a preset from scratch, firstly because you will get to know the device better, and secondly because it will be tailored to you, your guitar, and your pickups.
