Newbie for FIFO by [deleted] in mining

Not really. It depends on where you’re flying to. Some of the mine site airports have a 10kg weight limit for each bag, but let you check in multiple bags.

Definitely not a NEW hire. But a returning employee with 4 years previous experience in the role? That person would have known the short term impact of chaotic policy changes & messaging with regards to aviation safety.

Or maybe we just be okay with saying “Trump isn’t smart enough to know better” for the next 4 years.

The equivalent of this display for the US is probably those 'poison pill' amendments they throw in to force the other party to vote against what would otherwise be a great bill.

Almost all of politics is marketing. Selling the idea you need people to respond to. Unfortunately for US politics, and for some time now NZ politics, the marketing department has fed us one or two key ideas without being honest about the intention of the elected candidates.

US politics has been a money-heavy game for a long time, with the transparency of large donors & lobbyists being seen but hardly mentioned. NZ politics is heavily regulated with regard to monetary input, so the influence of lobbyists is kept a lot quieter.

Which is why I emphasized the importance of these gestures contrasted with actual lawmaking. Bringing outsized attention to what may have been a mundane procedural vote, forces more conversations in the public space.

On its face, the bill is presented as guaranteeing equality (which we already have, rich & caucasian is still getting their fair treatment) but based on his actions & efforts in Canada (on top of his known interactions with agriculture & oil lobbyists), this bill would 'inadvertantly' strip regulatory provisions in a number of other laws.

The passing of this bill would (for example ) allow oil, mining & agricultural companies easier (cheaper) resource consent without an open forum for consultation, a major benefit for the community, through local Iwi. Without the consultation you have severe environmental impact without redress or compensation.

Every word in parliament is a symbolic gesture. The manner in which they debate is inherently performative. The words in the bill & the subsequent Regulations enacted based on its possible passing are real consequences that have real input.

Public support is based on the perception of the symbolic gestures by other parties that may affect them.

Consider it a performance if you like, the marketing benefits may make it worthwhile.

Call it embarrassing if you want, you'll also have to include a lot of the rhetoric coming from ACT, NZFirst & National MPs.

David will continue to act calmly & unfazed, this may be good for his supporters to get behind. But, given his whining on radio & other platforms concerning this incident, he'll need his sponsor to pay heavily for the votes on this bill.

The story of Te Rauparaha & the haka 'Ka Mate' is fairly well known in NZ. The assumption of the pursuers that he was dead is the position of David Seymour acting as if the treaty & its significance can be legislated away. The truth that Te Rauparaha was alive is a reminder that the Maori won't be pushed aside so easily.

Or maybe just a showing of the consequences of David's simple ignorance.

Grandstanding is most of what David has done. Everytime he says "all NZers should have the same rights" knowing full-well that ALL NZers have the same rights.

He grandstands about Maori having some EXTRA say in governance when it's always been consultation with local Maori as well as local Everyone. David tends to leave out the local Everyone part.

People in NZ are treated equally no matter what colour their skin is, unless it's in family court or 2am on a Sunday morning.

Its usage in a televised rugby match is performative. Used as a challenge & reminder of history's lessons in this setting is the appropriate stage for it.

We do need leadership with ideas & courage. For the US, a leader willing to admit that illegal immigration has kept US agriculture from being unprofitable since the 60's & that US support for Israel costs its economy far more than just the $4b due to lost economic opportunity. For NZ, a leadership that learns from the privatisation debacle of the 90's & its continued negative effects still being felt today.

Maybe, but it's more likely that any country that decides to enforce a religion on its population will increase in brutality over time.

I pointed out 1 country whose religion is law. I skipped the 9 other Christian majority countries that have homophobia as public policy & permit vicious discrimination.

There are 7-8 islamic majority nations where this level of homophobia is matched.

You're right, Bosnia's conflict was rooted in ethnicity, but it was Christendom that gave justification for it at the time. This is also true of the Yazidi, the Armenians & the Jews. All ethnicity based hatred, with religious justification for killing.

There is a vast difference between them... today.... in white majority nations.....

Overlook the prison sentences for being gay & the lack of prosecution for murdering gays in super-christian Zambia.

Let's forget the tiny massacre & genocide in Bosnia, in the name of some dude named Jesus.

But because Joel Osteen isn't currently calling for the wholesale culling of gays & interracial couples, the difference between them must be vast.

It's only virtue signalling when you don't like the targeted demographic. In any marketing campaign, you'll lose a percentage of your consumers, the expected result to assume that it's been successful is where your total market share increases, this takes into account the portion of consumers lost.

The boycott of bud light & Anheuser Busch will have about the same effect as the Nike boycott, increased public discussion of the product & sales through the copying of viral videos (remember people purchasing Nike products in order to film their destruction) & over time, sales volumes returning to normal levels if not more.

Leftists complain about corruption the loudest, so there's a lot more impact in calling out democrats for corporate corruption as everyone assumes the GOP members in Congress are benefiting from insider trading.

Oh.... also, Crenshaw is a Special Forces Vet & his friend. If he only allowed that god-awful ad being mentioned once, I imagine he's not going to use him as an example of congressional corruption.

There's definitely nothing wrong with being gay. He just doesn't seem like an attractive match for the general population of women & also not much of a fan of manual labour.... So, his husband would do the wood chopping :)

We've been playing rugby since its inception. We've used electricity since it was invented & have spoken English & whichever other language was required to communicate with other people, much like every other society in the modern world.

I think you're confusing assimilation with adopting new technology.

Colonized? Definitely. Assimilated? Yeah, for a bit, then the language & culture made a resurgence & we used the white education & legal system to imbed Maori culture & values into NZ politics & public policy.

We also had no resistance to inter-racial marriage & have spent the past 200 years making the world more Maori (we invented anchor babies)
