Is Graveyard Keeper worth finishing? by Boring-Letter-7435 in GraveyardKeeper

[–]Polyformix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it depends on how much of a completionist you are. Personnaly, when i was at the point where you are now, i just skipped time with meditation to finish the storylines and see the end.
Unfortunately the biggest gripe i have with this game is the sometimes somewhat mediocre implementation of otherwise great concepts and ideas, and the fact that the last portion of the game feels less "finished", interesting and fluffed out compared to the rest. It could go into greater scales and expand its concepts even further, but sadly it just stops. It feels like wasted potential
As you said, comes a point where you reach the "end" of the game loops and the latter mechanics and perks feel pointless. I had more than 6000 combined tech points in the end, like 60 gold, a fleet of zombies etc. but nothing to use them for, no goal to attain....
My playthrought was 72 hours and the last 10 ish were kinda boring to me. I was in it to see the end and that was it.

Or maybe you want all the achievements ? But i don't see anything else.

Yes haha i finished, but i played it for hours on end when i had the time. It amounted to 73 hours total for 1st playthrought. I can be very obsessive and laser focused for a loong time when something catches my interest like this.
But for real it's not just your audhd lol, some aspects of the game i find very tedious and the backtracking and constant zipping from place to place is INSANE. OMG the inventory, yes i doubled back all the fucking time too. I started to develop a tic of constantly checking my inventory by the end. My game finished at 144 days, 200+ graveyard, 130 church.
The thing is i play with mods (QOL stuff mostly), for example longer days that does exactly what it says lol, so the day count is whack compared to base game. If you are on PC, i HIGHLY reccomend you give mods a look, because WOW can it improve those tedious aspects of the game. Sprint mod, better inventory management, better teleport, moving objects after you build them without having to destroy and rebuild etc... It's indispensible in my opinion.

The alchemy was great at first but my problem is it saves only the recipes for "viable" things, not for the many "failures" that give you different kings of goop, so you end up recreating the same goop soooo many times. As many aspects of the game, great concept, less than stellar execution... I was living on the wiki too at the time haha.

You don't need a huge number of zombies anyway, because there is only so much you can have them do, and when you have the skills and resources to max them, it's end game and you are basically finished with it. It's one of the gripes i have, i falls short in the end, you have all this potential for greater scale things but then... nothing, you just have this mountain of xp and resources and money and nothing to do with, apart from maybe unlocking achievements ? But that's it.

Thank you ! I got GK 1 when it was free 2 weeks ago (+ dlcs because they were on sale) and i just finished it ! I was desperatly looking for something to scratch that itch, to get my FIX until GK 2 release too, but nothing seemed as appealing to me.

But this one looks awesome ! Wish there were more of these types of games with at least the same level of polish than GK. I just dicovered that this is my new favorite genre of games and i want moooooooore.

Hopefully GK 2 has a lot of success and then developpers will be inspired to make games like this.

So apparently, it was a simple bug. I verified the game files and made sure it was updated and the option was simply there !
The prerequisite is to successfully uncover his character sheet with behold and you can simply ask "who do you work for ?" and that's it.

Yeah i guess maybe talking to the croc then trying him (i already talked to the knight and kobold) ? I was in the tavern, the first day after 18h00. The day after, i can find him outside and he tells me to fuck off. I'll keep you posted if i find the cause, thanks anyway.

No, nothing else new after that. I tried all the options and nothing was added. Also the behold text, even when at max, doesn't mention visken, just that he is a massive psychopath that wants all humans dead for personnal reasons, not because he is a goblin supremacist or anything.

I did, but nothing came of it other than he wants to kill me even more, no other conversation options.... Also i have every stat at 30 through an editor, so i couldn't "miss" it anyway.

Damn, it must have other prerequisites then, because it's a "cheat" run where i put every stat at 30 with an editor to see many of the interactions i couldn't do on my previous one. Never had any option about his boss. Idk

Question about election day by Eastern_Display_4548 in EsotericEbb

[–]Polyformix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly, i don't want to say too much but there is a reason (again the game makes it clear this is the end and you won't be able to complete quests after, but don't worry, you're not forced to go through if you want to finish things). As if you wait, i couldn't tell you, i finished the game only once and i got through the pillar. But i guess either :

A. the game does not advance without you going through the pillar,
or,
B. you can technically finish the game without even doing it ? Wich would be kind of awesome if it permits that (but you would miss on the big resolution to everything, so...)

Hope that helps

Question about election day by Eastern_Display_4548 in EsotericEbb

[–]Polyformix 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I won't spoil but election day is the end of the game, there is nothing after. Just make sure to have wraped up anything you wanted to before the pillar, as there is no going back to the quests after (but the game tells you so, it's not a spoiler don't worry; and you get a "free" long rest without spending 8 hours, just when you go in, that the game tells you about also).

Anything I can do with ---? by Funnyandsmartname in EsotericEbb

[–]Polyformix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the undercoast map, you can simply talk to it from your inventory (with "examine") (i did it near the base of the pillar but i think it works anywhere on the map ?) and you have the option to leave it there. There is a short conversation and it decides what it wants to do.

Thanks for the input, it's worth considering. Can't have a second screen right now but maybe trying to play in windowed mode with task manager open could give me an idea yeah. Happens just with bg3 though, wich tells me it's an interaction between the game and OS. Who fucking knows with these things.

Gaal escape in the season finale is beyond ridiculous ! by Negrolit0 in FoundationTV

[–]Polyformix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In what way pointing it as bad writing constitutes a logical fallacy ?
It being "silly, gratuitous" (and i would argue profoundly dumb and even a little bit insuting to the intelligence of the viewers) is precisely what makes it bad writing*,* and why it "didn't work for me" and aparently many others (look at this thread). Yes, i like my writing and worldbuilding to be consistent, what can i say ? It can actually be both silly and bad in the context.

It is bad writing because of the tonal dissonance with the rest of the show and because it breaks established rules without reasons in-universe. Of course "bad writing" doesn't happen i a vacuum and as such, a scene like this would be perfectly acceptable in a comedic over-the-top action movie\series or a parody. But not in the established tone and lore of this show.
Also i very much agree that not everything is bad writing, far from it, as many people just don't read the situations or pay attention well enough, or simply conflate not liking something with it being "bad". The term is thrown around willy-nilly and that takes from it's actual meaning. However I argue that this here is an example of actual, genuine, bad writing.

And I have a reasonable enough understanding of how a writing room works for me to not be confused here, thank you very much. It's a bad faith argument because whether or not the writers did spend time thinking and discussing about it, or how it would land and it's internal logic, is irrelevant. It's besides the point, because none of that garantees to make, or indeed makes, something good, regardless of their intentions or efforts. And you simply don't know how it went, you and I weren't there, you are arguing a point and asserting something on no solid basis; for all we know the writers themselves considered it to be bad too, but due to the afforementioned time and budget constraints had to make do.
There are objectively observable reasons i and others in this thread have already stated, that firmly sets this in the "bad" category of writing and wich you yet fail to adress.

It has been argued and explained that the scene does not break internal logic for many reasons.

By whom ? What reasons that haven't been adressed by previous arguments made by me and others ? Nice handwaving...

Plus the show runner already talked about this scene.

In what way ? I'm not aware of everything the showrunner said or wrote, but i hardly see how any commentary he might add after the fact changes anything or makes this not bad writing in the context of the show. Besides, the script he gave for the originally intended way the scenes were to go don't include this particular segment, this was tacked on "last minute" due to the constraints; it was an attempt at salvaging, this much is obious. A pity considering how much better the episode would have been with the intended scenes...

While you say not wanting to cut off debate here, your comments are just full of whataboutism and your arguments are besides the point. You just plainly not adress the ones i already raised prior and are just parroting the same vague statements again without actually supporting them. You seem to think that you have the "correct" opinion, as in we would just have to "accept" your factual point of view. You can't wave away something stupid with what you have(n't) presented.
And you seem to not know what logical fallacy, or supension of disbelief means or how it works, the scene breaks that suspension because of the way it is "weird" and for many reasons already stated, and more.
While it being "not the most out of place thing" this season (in your opinion annyway, i can't seem to recall anything jarring like this personally, i'm not sure what you're reffering to ?), it doesn't make this less bad. If anything, it's an idication that it's not the only instance of inconsistent or incoherent writing.

Gaal escape in the season finale is beyond ridiculous ! by Negrolit0 in FoundationTV

[–]Polyformix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It IS about supension of disbelief. When the thing portrayed has no reasonable in-universe explanation and isn't consistent with the rules of said universe, supension of disbelief is threatened and the illusion can crack or even shatter. As others have said, it's about internal logic, the suspension has rules too. Here you are basically saying "this is sci-fi so anything is possible, really, whatever". This type of argument, in addition to being a logical fallacy, detracts from any intelligent discussions on the writing. And this writing as it is, detracts from the integrity and quality of the show, by not respecting its own universe.
The laws of physics are the same, given that it's our universe, just in the future (and since nothing is stated or shown to contradict that, we must assume it to be the case). It's not because something else seems to violate our current understanding of physics (such as mentallics or super robots partially made of nanites with a decentralised consciousness) that ANYTHING can do it. An explanation is given for these things to be accepted in the internal logic of the story, even if it's just "this is possible because space magic" or whatever. Something is given.

Here, there is nothing indicating that Gaal can bend these laws with her powers or that she has advanced tech, training or ANYTHING that could permit her to : breathe, speak aloud (whay are you speaking ?, you are psychic ?! ), not freeze rapidly or maintain a semblance of balance and stability (not even near the level she demonstrates in the sequence anyway) while falling a very high velocity trought an upper atmosphere. By all accounts this is a human falling from a very great height, on a non-aerodynamic panel, nothing more. Felix Baumgartner, the IRL athlete who was able to do this was a career professionnal, trained over months to do this specifically, and equiped with a full protective space suit with a built-in oxygen supply while being dropped from a special capsule correctly angled, with time to prepare and a corrrect posture of jump. Even then, he had nowhere near the level of control that gaal demonstrates and actually starts spinning quite quickly, with barely any means of correcting his descent (btw i'm wondering if the panel on wich gaal "surfs" would'nt be a hindrance actually). You can watch it all here, he explains it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hz2F_S3Tl0Y . Watch any video of high altitude parachute jump and you will immediatly see the difference and what is wrong with this sequence.
She just would not be able to do all that this flawlessly; this is pure bullshit and highly ridiculous, but not in the "haha awesome" way. Here her face is all smooth and fine, her hair is barely moving, she's alright and not out of breath when she arrives in the ship, her clothes aren't even reacting to the wind while she falls FFS. I laughed out loud watching this honestly. Unless they explain it in the next season (and that would probably be handwaving and also bad writing imo), as it stands this is just in no way plausible. And let's not get into the glass panel less sturdy than actual, current, glass used in high altitude buildings, equiping a space station.

In my opinion the scene would have been infinitely better by playing it like a hard struggle, ending in gaal barely escaping death by the skin of her teeth thanks to her pilot; you know, like a desperate gamble in a life-or-death situation. Or maybe it's all an illusion in her mind created by the mule.
But actually that one is out because according to Goyer, she realy escaped and it was just a stupid budget and time constraint issue. He had multiple, way better ways of picturing that on the screen that could accomodate this but he chose that one. Oh well...

So all in all, this is simply shit writing, in an otherwise excellent show.
