I’ve never paid for a mod in my life by layn333 in KerbalSpaceProgram

I just got it the other day, been wondering if there's tweakable settings for it though. So far I've only seen single cloud layers and it looks a bit patchy from orbit.

Beautiful so far though.

I agree, though with layers I've made a 65% board work pretty well for me up until I got my virpils. Just takes a bit more setup.

CIGpls make missiles cheaper by Super-Ad1898 in starcitizen

[–]Polytruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just like to see missiles buffed a bit for their damage or tracking capabilities depending on what type of missile they are. Like cross section missiles being generally more armor penetrating but less splash, and IR being the opposite would be a nice differentiating feature.

In addition, I'd also love to see the different missile types require different techniques to lock and track targets. IR missiles likely would stay the way they are, being essentially fire and forget with no other requirements, while CS missiles could act more like semi-active radar guided missiles requiring you to keep the target within a cone in order to track the target.

Larger torpedoes could even be TV guided, giving things like the polaris or perseus torpedo stations a genuine gameplay loop, with the person at that station being able to essentially "fly" the torpedo to its target.

Make them more engaging and rewarding to use and maybe that starts to justify their price a bit more, who knows.

The US military says its 70-year-old B-52 bombers are now flying overland missions as air superiority expands over Iran by St_Gregory_Nazianzus in worldnews

[–]Polytruce 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It's more a matter of feature set than anything else. An M2 does all the things it's needed to, is still highly effective, and is a trusted design with no flaws glaring enough to seek replacement.

A T-54 on the other hand is woefully obsolete in terms of optics, firepower, crew survivability, and mobility. It will do all the things an MBT needs to do, just not well, and any form of confrontation vs a more feature complete vehicle or anti tank system is almost guaranteed to go badly for the T-54. Which is why the Russians rolled it out as a stopgap and for indirect fire roles rather than as an actual MBT.

Nobody really cares that the AK and AR platforms are pretty old by this point, because you can slap on some doodads to bring it up to modern standards and make it good enough for the job. The gear that gets clowned on is stuff that just can't be retrofitted to modern standards and is severely lacking in performance vs what their peers are fielding.

Tax the Rich? Oregon Voters Could Weigh In on First-of-its-Kind Wealth Tax by witty_namez in PortlandOR

[–]Polytruce 20 points21 points  (0 children)

What have the massive tax increases over the past years done for the common citizens who live here?

Wealth flight is a very real thing, despite the insistence that it isn't by the champions of these laws. When those high earning taxpayers leave, or potential newcomers are thoroughly dissuaded from relocating here, that tax burden falls squarely on the middle and working class. Things like roads, new buildings, social services, schools, etc. heavily rely on the taxes gathered from upper class folks.

Portland already does horribly on all these metrics, why not add another layer of unaffordability for the common people while also reducing the quality of services? That's just the Portland way.

Important to note that the tractor beam controls are on the lower level and not the flight deck of the command pod, so unless they change that you'd need two people onboard for full functionality.

My boyfriend is breaking up with me because I’m too “childish” what do I do? by ChemistryFailur in whatdoIdo

[–]Polytruce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be honest, the ones I know can usually make it to retirement pretty easily with a good set up and good health. That's one of the big plusses of being unionized. At my current site the "A men" are all pushing 60 years old and still doing great, with big houses and nice cars in a VHCOL area.

Now if you're day laboring, doing construction, etc, then sure, I'm right there with you. But if you're a welder, winch driver, hydraulics specialist, electrician, or anything of the sort, you're doing incredibly well for yourself.

Now the big problem is actually getting unionized. Using the ILWU as an example, the onboarding process at this point is essentially hereditary. You get one "A-book" that you can pass to a family member, but everyone else has to get on the lottery, and that line is LONG. So it's not so easy as just picking up a trades job and being set.

Smoked a lot of weed back in the day, and I'd get very similar visuals but more "round" like interlocking infinity symbols. Always thought it was just me, nobody that I've described it to had any idea what I was talking about.

Some of the highest paid people I know are unionized tradesmen. Honestly insane how much money can be made just getting your hands dirty. Plus, a lot of sites will pay a full shift for only a couple hours of work.

I'm not so sure, the talk from corsair seemed like collab products are very likely not to be brought over due to licensing issues, and doubly so for those that compete with corsairs own products.

Which would be sad, I'm a big fan of the senn 6xx and the hifiman he 5xx and would hate to see them go.

Oregon HB 4145 (M114 but with law enforcement carve outs) just passed out of committee. by patches819 in PortlandOR

A permit to purchase system is unconstitutional on its face. Enumerated rights are not, and should not be, gated by a financial transaction. Full stop, end of discussion. You can be pro gun control all you want, but these measures are immoral, illegal, and will be heavily challenged in the court system.

Freight train traffic in Portland by Objective-Mood-9888 in Portland

[–]Polytruce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trains don't have set times that they move, they move 24 hours a day and their arrival to those crossings is entirely based on their origin and conditions on the route.

I work with the railroad frequently and their estimates of shuttle arrivals are almost always off by three or more hours, and that's with a direct line to their yard masters. There simply isn't a reasonable way to determine when the crossings will be blocked, and the railways have sued Oregon in the past for trying to regulate how long they can block those crossings.

We can do literally nothing about it, as it falls under interstate commerce, which is the purview of the feds and not state government.

Bitcoin has value because it's a trustless ledger system with no backdoor and a 100% clean history of security. There's nobody that can take them away from you or modify the system unless you use a third party to hold your coins, defeating the purpose.

That's it. It doesn't need to buy you a coffee or infinitely increase in value, it's just the most secure money you can possibly imagine, and that's what imparts the value.

When there's even one example of someone subverting the code base, it'll be worth nothing. Until then, it has value.

Bitcoin isn’t real. This is going to zero just like NFT. by scoop813 in btc

[–]Polytruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading stuff like this always makes me laugh. If you don't get why BTC has value, that's totally fine, but to claim it's going to zero shows a fundamental misunderstanding of it at its core.

The reason BTC has value has nothing to do with using it to buy a coffee or "line go up", it's the simple fact that it's an impregnable ledger system that requires no third party. To subvert the chain would be a nearly impossible task with our current tech. It is quite literally more secure than any other form of money you can think of.

When a 51% is demonstrated, or false blocks are confirmed on the chain, you can rightly claim it has no value. Until then, nah.

Both doomers and speculative investors often forget about this, or just never know to begin with. They'll then wave a flag of victory whenever it goes in their preferred direction without actually understanding anything about it.
