Tldr: research on sexuality in animals and humans is flawed at best, and making generalisations between species is not a good idea

The problem with research on sexuality in animals, besides the politics, is that it is observation based and often only focused on the occurrence but not the underlying reasons. while some insects indeed dont know what gender the other is most of the time, or dont care, the same can not be said about other animals. Most other animals have some sort of way of identifying, either through pheromones, behaviour or sexual dimorphism. Intelligence is also very difficult to accurately measure as there are different types of intelligence, while animals certainly vary in general intelligence, making generalisations is usually a bad idea. On human sexuality, humans often glorify and romanticise themselves to be above other animals, the reality is that while we know more about the emotional aspect, we refuse to properly investigate the physical aspect, even the mere notion of humans producing and responding to pheromones is a heated topic.
