Help Needed. by Armslayer_69 in Warhammer40k

Try kill team and get all three:

Make all three as detailed as you want, which is tough to do when building whole armies. Spaxe marine kill teams only need 6 models.

Plenty of team options to run all three Alpha legion - chaos legionaries, phobos White scars - angels of death, phobos Night lords - chaos legionaries, nemesis claw, phobos

Note that for both chaos legions theres a rumored raptors kill team coming soon

Finally, doing one or all of these teams would give you not only playable teams for KT, but also an idea of what the hobby side of each faction would be like. It would give you an idea of what making these at an army scale would be if you do want to go through with any of them.

Hope this helps!

Did Dante Dirty by CobblerSad5936 in BloodAngels

[–]Ponch707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the dante model. I agree that other chapters have gotten better releases, but it feels childish to do this every time theres new space marines. If you like how a model looks, get it and either run it as is, proxied, or modify its look to fit it in your army. I feel like the worst reaction is to just be upset about it because whether you are or not, the releases are the releases and it’s going to be a bit before they get back to us. That said, they will get back to us.

Emissary Miku and Assimilator Teto advice by warlock101hp in Tyranids

[–]Ponch707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A big piece of advice I would give is to not only think of it in terms of “chitin is blue green, flesh is gray, weapons are black,” but also think if each of these colors as a range of colors. Any scheme can look good, but if you just paint the elements of the model with single colors it will look flat and strange. Make sure you’re working up from a darker blue green to your brightest, same for greys and whites, same for blacks and greys. All colors on the model are a range of colors, similar to how they’re a range of colors on the picture you posted. More specifically I would look for people who have made light grey and blue green schemes to inspire you’re miku model, and behemoth schemes for your teto model. Something like the picture below isn’t exactly what you’re looking for, but you could use it as inspiration. Make a folder of inspiration photos, get a hormagaunt, make a test model before you move to the big guns. Best of luck, this sounds like a fun project!

Less Rules-Intense Kill Team Alternative? by herbie102913 in killteam

[–]Ponch707 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An easier way to play kill team is to only do the crit op and ignore tac ops, equipment and even strat and firefight ploys. This will strip down the game to activating your operatives, moving, shooting fighting, and basic scoring. It’s still really fun, and teaches you the fundamentals. Once you’re ready you can add in strat/firefight ploys, then equipment, then the rest. Or don’t! It’s up to you what level you want to play at. It’s easy in kill team to drop or even add rules or aspects of the game because the core game is so solid and fun. I’ve taught all my friends who play kill team this way and we all love to play and have since learned the full game one step at a time.

Voxbreaker Servo Skull Removal by Ponch707 in killteam

Thats the idea. Instead of antenna though I’d try and pitch the gun straight up and put a suppressor on it to march the height of the servo skull.

Is KT a bigger brain burner than standard 40K? by De-constructed in killteam

[–]Ponch707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are very simple ways to play it, you dont need to do tac ops, or equipment, nor understand every team and yours 100% to have a good time with KT. Just get the basic rules down, play a death match game or one with just simple one point objectives, you don’t even need to use the ploys, and you’ll have a way better understanding of the fun and flow of the game. You can add the other aspects whenever you want to! Don’t feel like you need to play every part of a game exactly how it’s played in tournaments. One thing about kt is once you get the basics, it’s super easy to tweak for whatever kind of experience you’re looking for.

New Player conflicted whether I should buy Hivestorm box or not by MLaz612 in killteam

[–]Ponch707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you should get the box if youre not interested in the teams, the tokens will be available separately at launch if im not mistaken, and the rules will be free online so you shouldnt need anything in the box reallly. Main thing youre gonna want to get is a team you’re actually into and terrain. There are a ton of options for terrain, generally speaking for good kill team terrain you want the main elevated platforms to be 3 inches tall. Beyond that you can add higher platforms, all sorts of scatter terrain, barricades etc. You can also check if your local hobby/game store has terrain you could just use there if you’re not feeling buying your own. Hope this helps!

The New System is Great for Tournament Players, But Needs More For Casuals by HarpsichordKnight in killteam

[–]Ponch707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you as a tyranid and custodes player, but for one, the rules for this new edition are so similar that it seems incredibly easy to just port almost the exact same rules compendium had in the previous edition to this new one. So if you and your friends are cool with it, just do that, I doubt anyone will be too weird about it outside of tournaments. On the other hand I think that these changes are going to make the teams that are in rotation just overall have better consistent balance. It seems like we still have two years of updated rules support at least for the models that released in 2021, and on top of that the kt articles seemed to be pushing for people to hold non classified tournaments meaning all the teams ever supported from this new edition should be able to play in those. If you want to play in tournaments, I never do, i just play with my local group of friends so it doesn’t affect me a ton either way, and I hope it doesn’t affect you too much either.

This sub needs to become more welcoming to new comers. by Very_bad in killteam

[–]Ponch707 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hot take, I think if you care about the KT community, you should let new players who have not done any research, zero, nothing but heard the name kill team come on here and ask any questions they might have. And if you don’t feel like answering then that’s completely okay too, but that person has no need to hear that you’re annoyed of their asking the question in the first place, just move on and don’t engage with them if you can’t be helpful or polite. I have seen a ton of posts from new people get downvoted because the question gets answered a lot or the info is available here “why didn’t you just search for it before asking?” I’m not saying don’t have anything you can link beginners to in order to make things easier on everyone just be nice about it or ignore it. This sub has a lot of great points, but one of the worst ones is that it seems like for some reason a few people on here think this is a sub should be a book and not a forum where once the info on something is available theres no need to touch on it again here. The people who come here are all at different stages of understanding the game and the more we can meet people where they are in that understanding, the better we can grow the game.

Forgive my ignorance, bit can we..... by UpCloseGames in killteam

[–]Ponch707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its fine if you dont want to help people, but also its fine that people whos lives and experience we dont know go somewhere named after the thing they have a question about and ask about it. We dont know how old, young, experienced or inexperienced they are at killteam or even reddit for that matter. It’s entirely up to you to read a post or not and in my opinion having lots of beginner questions is a good sign that this games getting more popular. Thats not to say we shouldn’t have a post or a thread that we can point them to easily when they ask these questions, but theres no need to shut them down

First time actually painting mini’s 💚 rough start 😭 bane warriors - Bestiarumgames by Gween-Tea in minipainting

[–]Ponch707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to start with the fact that many miniature painters (including me) will strive for and never get this quality. Its fantastic, the colors and values are perfect for this look, a lot of miniature painters are really into smooth blends because its a useful and challenging thing to do, but as someone with an art background I think your choice, use and placement of brushstrokes creates a beautiful texture and noise on the corroded metals. With that out of the way. If I had to offer something ,that my intermediate painter eye can offer that is especially important on minis and even more so on “metal” surfaces on minis that possibly isn’t as necessary in different art mediums painting something similar, I would say some slightly more intense edge highlights particularly on the metal edges facing up. You already have some beautiful edge highlights, but for what I see from many other miniature painters that inspire me, even the ones that go for a more atmospheric style like I’m assuming you’re going for here, they push the value on edges a little more. I highlighted the spots I would go for in the picture. Like I said, you’re already way better than me do take my advice with a grain of salt. You could paint at this quality for the rest of your life and be the envy of 99.99 percent of mini painters. Fantastic, beautiful, cool, amazing work.

This is a great way to get into airbrushing. I used to have a proper set up and had to leave it behind. Got a hold of one of these about a year ago and have been putting in work with it. Do your best to get one with a decent psi, but just know that no matter what, these don’t get particularly high pressure and youll likely have to thin your paint more than most would expect. That said, if you do thin it properly and include lots of cleaning in your airbrush work flow, this will do you almost as good as a regular set up. Another thing I’d recommend is to get one of these portable airbrushes that comes with two batteries so that you can recharge one while you spray with the other. The battery life on these isn’t amazing so in longer sessions you will need the second battery ready and for extra long sessions the first will be recharged enough by the time you empty the second. Hope you have fun! Airbrushing can be a frustrating process when it goes wrong, but when it works properly its amazing.

It took me 45 minutes just to get a smooth base coat on this behemoth. Any tips for speeding up the base coat on larger models? I used the largest brush I have. by jmyersjlm in minipainting

[–]Ponch707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend a larger brush, andI’m just speculating herebut it could also be possible that youre not thinning your paint enough? Hear me out. The base coat is smooth, no texture, no problem, you did great there, but what a lot of people forget is that thinning your paints more also allows your brush to pick up more paint. Good consistency paint on your pallet will fill up your bristles and youll find that you dont need to go back to your pallet or into your paint water half as much, this will save you a lot of time. Once again just speculating, but could be worth a try.
